April Meeting 11 am, Saturday, April 14

Outback Steakhouse1509 N. Central Expressway, Plano

(West side of US 75 between 15th & 16th St.)

Program: Joe Green with Discount Tire to speak on how to buy the proper tires for your car.

It’s “Corvette” Time of the Year in Texas! Last Saturday, on our Dinner Cruise north to Tioga, Texas, I was reminded how great is to get together with club members and

enjoy our cars, when the weather is so pleasant! Fortu-nately, we have great members who arrange for activities to bring us all together. They’ve really come through this spring! Like Jerry Echols and everyone who showed their cars at the Autorama and the Dallas New Car Show and Ken and Kathy Weller who set up the super dinner cruise to Clark’s BBQ. I’m REALLY looking forward to driving with the group to Jefferson, Texas next Friday morning to enjoy the week-end that Bill and Nadine Tichy have planned for us. But these are all past by the time you get this newsletter. You still have a chance to join our club on a road trip to the Hot Springs Arkansas Corvette Weekend. Thursday morning, April 19th, Gerry and Linda Boren have a cara-van planned for us to drive to Hot Springs together. Gas up and make a hotel reservation for this FUN event! I hope everyone will come out to the April 28th Ro-tary Car Show at the Medical Center of Lewisville that I’m putting on. May 5th is the Corvette Show up north of here in Pottsboro, Texas. Super Chevy Show is May 12th at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX. Then there’s the BIG, BIG Lone Star Corvette Classic May 18-20 at Texas Motor Speedway with something for everyone including the NCRS Texas Regional Meet. And there’s always the Legends meeting on the 2nd Saturday and the Legends Brunch on the 3rd Sunday each month. See you at the meeting, Tom

The National Corvette Museum recently posted the following notice on their face-book page about the tour schedule at the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green:All GM Corvette Plant tours will cease on September 14, 2012. The date for tours to resume has yet to be determined. Of course, you can always come visit us at the Museum! We are open daily, 8am-5pm. We’re assuming that the suspension of tours is due to the retooling that will be go-ing on inside the Bowling Green Assembly Plant as General Motors transitions from building the C6 Corvette to the next generation 2014 C7 Corvette. In 2011, General Motors North American President Mark Reuss announced the automaker was investing $131 million in the plant for upgrading tooling and machin-ery. The investment is expected to create as many as 250 new jobs. NowisthetimetohittheplantifyouwanttoseethehowAmerica’sfinestautoworkers build the C6 Corvette. We’re planning on touring the facility the week of the NCM Bash.

2013 Corvette Model Run The 2013 model run is scheduled to start production in May 2012. New model year Corvettes usually don’t start produc-tion until the last week or so of June so this signifiesamoveupinproduction. The2013modelrunisthefinalmodelrun for the C6 Corvette. This means for many customers, the 2013 model run will be the last opportunity to purchase the current Corvette models, including Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1 In addition, the 2013 model run marks the 60th Anniversary of this Great American Sports Car. GM will be sending out information about the changes for the 2013 Corvette in the coming weeks. The 2013 Corvette production period is expected to run for approximately nine months with production to end sometime around February 2013. This does not mean that the C7 Corvette will be out early. The next model run will NOT immediately follow the end of the 2013 model run since the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, KY will need a few months to retool the assembly lines for production of the 7th Generation Corvette.

The Coming of the Next Generation Corvette

Sufficeittosaytheintroduction of any next generation Corvette is one of the most highly anticipated introductions in the automobile industry. The expected arrival of a new generation Corvette generates a lot of showroom ex-citementandtraffic.Italsorequiresthedealership’ssalesandservice teams to sharpen and improve their performance and

technology skills to meet the needs of the Corvette customer. It is for this reason that any Chev-rolet dealer seeking to sell and service Corvette must agree to invest in special tools and train-ing for the dealership’s personnel. The next two years promise to be two of the most eventful years in Corvette’s nearly 60 years of existence.
