Message from our Pastor, Christ in Risen Indeed, Alleluia!

As we begin the Easter Season, we take with us on our spiritual journey what we have learned and practiced during Lent. This 50 day season of Easter allows us as a parish and diocese to celebrate Christ’s triumph over sin and death, in union with our Holy Father Francis. During this time of great rejoicing, the Holy Father ask us to take time to read the Holy Scripture each of the 50 days of the Easter Season! God reveals himself to us through His Son Jesus. Read and reflect on the Word as a family, friends, and work and at school. Your family at CTK, the deacons, parish staff, leadership, Fr. Bob and I, wish you and your families a blessed Easter day and prayerful Easter Season. Thank you for inviting us into your personal and faith lives. It is an honor for us to serve the Diocese of Joliet, in particular, our parishioners of this community. Welcome to the families who are visiting, or if you are new to the parish, we hope you feel at home with us at our liturgies and parish activities. Please remember our young parishioners who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next Sunday with Bishop Imesch. Even if you do not have a parishioner being con-firmed, join us for Confirmation within the Sunday Mass at 2pm. May the risen Lord give you his Peace!

Fr Peter J., Pastor

Prayer for Pastors and the Communities they are Called to Serve

Christ Jesus, you are the Eternal High Priest who watches over and guides our Joliet Diocesan Parishes. In this time of transition for the parishes of Christ the

King and St. Ann Parish, may we know that you have a plan for us. You have called Father Peter Jarosz to

serve as Pastor of St. Ann Parish and Father Jeff Stoneberg, the new pastor of Christ the King in June. May they know of the support and prayers of the communities they are serving at this time. On the Universal Feast of Corpus Christi give Father Stoneberg and Father Jarosz courage, wisdom, and joy as they begin their

new pastor assignments. Thank you Lord for calling these priests to be of ser-

vice for the Church of Joliet, under the leadership and example of Bishop Conlon.

Through Christ our Lord Amen

Jose Alfaro ESL – Pontifical College Josephinum Parish: St. Mary, West Chicago Birthday – June 1

My name is Jose Alonso Alfaro. I was born in Zinapecuaro, Michoacán, Mex-ico. I am the eighth of nine children in a very Catholic family. My parents have always been hard workers. My Dad used to come to the United States every year to look for work and my Mom stayed in Mexico to care for the family. We lived a very simple life. The thought of priesthood was with me at a very young age. I remember playing Mass with my friends and I was always the priest. I enjoyed serving Mass often as a child and we went to Eucharistic adoration often as a family.

I became a legal resident of the United States when I was about 16 and my Dad brought me to work with him in the United States. It was hard work and I remember seeing the poor people with many needs, especially a need for God. This was a good experience for me, but I missed my family, my friends and the Church family in Mexico. I returned to Mexico to continue my studies. As I continued to be in-volved in the parish life I could not deny that God was call-ing me to be a priest.

I entered the seminary in Monterrey, Mexico in 1997, the same seminary where my older brother was studying theol-ogy. I loved the seminary life and I stayed there into my second year of philosophy. However, I went through a cri-sis as my family was going through difficult times. I left the seminary in 2000, confused and not knowing what to do.

I had various jobs over the years, but I always stayed close to the Church. I helped the priests in many different areas, as the idea of priesthood never completely left my mind. Then in the summer of 2012, tired of the work I was doing and tired of the violence in Mexico, I decided to come to West Chicago to visit my sisters. During this time, I had a lot of time to pray, attend Mass and go to Eucharistic adora-tion. And during this prayer the idea of priesthood resur-faced in my heart. I began speaking with Fr. Joe Jablonsky, who helped celebrate Mass at St. Mary’s in West Chicago. And then I met Fr. Burke Masters. I have been on a spiri-tual journey over the last year as the call to the priesthood has been very strong once again. I have seen the spiritual needs here in the Diocese of Joliet.

I am very thankful to be accepted as a seminarian for the Diocese of Joliet. I am thankful for my spiritual director, Fr. Oscar Regojo, who has helped me grow spiritually in the last several months. Please pray for me and my brother seminarians, that we become saints and God willing, holy priests.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter

Reflecting on God’s Word Sports reporters love to describe games in the present tense. A television announcer will say of the play that

won the game, “If she doesn’t get that rebound her team walks away without the win.” A journalist writing for the next day’s paper will write, “She sees the block

coming and gets the shot off just in time.” The purpose of this technique is to make us feel as though we are

witnessing the event here and now.

In the scriptures that describe the events of Easter the present tense is no reporter’s technique. It is the core of

our belief in the Resurrection. Yes, Christ was raised from the dead two thousand years ago, but that’s only the beginning of the story. Christ is risen and we are witnessing that event here and now. Those who were

reborn in baptism, anointed in confirmation, and ate and drank with the Lord in the Eucharist at the Easter Vigil

can attest to that truth. Christ is risen, and is filling those who believe with his life-giving Spirit today. As we

give witness to our faith we would do well to follow the lead of the sports reporters and the psalmist, who sings, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be

glad.” Alleluia!

St. James the Apostle Catholic School is currently accepting registrations for the 2014-2015 school year and we welcome the parishioners of Christ the King with open arms! Father John Bel-monte, S.J., Ph.D., says that, “a Catholic education is an act of love.” Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, the spiritual head of the Joliet Diocese, says, “Next to its sacra-mental life, Catholic education is the greatest gift that God enables the Church to provide.” The principal of St. James, Mrs. Nancy James, has recently been hon-ored for work in the Joliet Diocese for 25 years, 19 of them as a principal. A STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE

Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal Report through 4/4/2014

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT

The reading from the Acts of the Apostles reminds us that we, too, bear witness to the risen Lord. The presence of Christ is within us, making us new, transforming us, turning us into stewards of the Good News. There is no more time for holding grudges, disliking others, seeking vengeance, maintaining old prejudices, tolerating bias. We are Christ’s joy and instruments of his peace. Our world is reordered. Reflect on how we are called to let Christ’s forgiveness, reconciliation and love permeate our lives. We are Easter people. Rejoice! He is risen! Alleluia!
