EASTER SUNDAY OF THE
RESURRECTION OF THE LORD
APRIL 16, 2017
REJOICE AND BE GLAD “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice
and be glad” (Psalm 118:24). Let us remember that
these words of today’s responsorial psalm are not
only sung from the hearts of those gathered in our
parish. They are also sung by the poor in tiny bar-
rios throughout Central and South America. They
are sung by those denied religious freedom in our
world; these Christians lift their voices in clandes-
tine places of worship. These words are sung by
people who have lost loved ones to acts of terrorism
and war around the globe. Even in the midst of con-
flict and division, Christians still come together to
declare that poverty, loneliness, violence, and divi-
sion will never, ever have as much power as the
life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Indeed,
let us rejoice this day and be glad!

Easter
Break the box and shed the nard;
Stop not now to count the cost;
Hither bring pearl, opal, sard;
Reck not what the poor have lost;
Upon Christ throw all away:
Know ye, this is Easter Day.
Build His church and deck His shrine,
Empty though it be on earth;
Ye have kept your choicest wine—
Let it flow for heavenly mirth;
Pluck the harp and breathe the horn:
Know ye not 'tis Easter morn?
Gather gladness from the skies;
Take a lesson from the ground;
Flowers do ope their heavenward eyes
And a Spring-time joy have found;
Earth throws Winter's robes away,
Decks herself for Easter Day.
Beauty now for ashes wear,
Perfumes for the garb of woe,
Chaplets for dishevelled hair,
Dances for sad footsteps slow;
Open wide your hearts that they
Let in joy this Easter Day.
Seek God's house in happy throng;
Crowded let His table be;
Mingle praises, prayer, and song,
Singing to the Trinity.
Henceforth let your souls always
Make each morn an Easter Day.

I, Karen Tucker, moved to Hereford, Texas in July of 2015. My family includes my husband, Dustin and three
children. Our two oldest both attend HISD schools while our littlest is a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic
School. I grew up in Amarillo, Texas. I attended CISD school and was the first in my family to graduate from
college. While going to school, I worked in the veterinary medicine field. I earned my Associates degree
in Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation in 2008 from Amarillo College. I worked in the nondestructive test-
ing field for two years before moving back into the field of veterinary science. I hold multiple certifications as
a veterinary technician. My passion for pets has allowed me to receive a thorough understanding of a strong,
loving connection and unconditional love. After moving to Hereford I started working at Andrews Crop Insur-
ance. I am currently pursuing my Property and Casualty Insurance License. I would love to get more involved
in my community and I’m passionate about education reform. I would enjoy serving on the school board be-
cause I believe it presents many opportunities to contribute and improve our community and the future of our
children.I enjoy serving on the board of the local Human Society chapter, dancing with my husband, spending time with my fam-
ily, trying new places to eat, reading, and sometimes just doing absolutely nothing!
My name is Michala Berend. My husband is Brent Berend, son of Ray and Nadine Berend, and we have been
married for 5 years. We have two children. Emma, who is 7 years old and currently a 2nd grader at St. Anthony's
Catholic School and Brigham, who is 4 years old and will be joining her next year. We also just recently found out
that we will be having another baby October 2017. I have been a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church since
we moved to Hereford in June of 2013 and am a part of the music ministry of the church also. I am an English
teacher at Hereford High School, currently working on my Master's degree in Teaching. I am involved with the
school's PTO group and benefit events. I love the education St. Anthony's gives the children and value its religious
base. Some of my hobbies include singing, reading, traveling, gardening, and spending time with the family.
I was born and raised in Hereford and am a lifelong Catholic. I am a graduate of Hereford High School and have continued my edu-
cation at Amarillo College in the field of education. I have served as a nursery worker for First Baptist Church
for 13 years, and as a substitute teacher for Hereford ISD and St. Anthony's School for many years. I have been
a faithful volunteer for St. Anthony's School, serving as Room Mother and helping with all school fundraising
activities and other events while my son Andrew (St. A's Class of 2007) and daughter Alexia (St. A's Class of
2015) have been St. Anthony's students. I am active in the parish, teaching Vacation Bible School and serving
as a lector and Eucharistic minister. I am currently on school board and have served as secretary and Presi-
dent. I am currently the Library Aide at Stanton Learning Center and have been married to Emilio Hernandez
for 22 years. I believe in the spiritual and academic foundation that St. Anthony's School provides, and I want
to continue to serve in a way that will better our school for future generations while ensuring the safety, educa-
tion and life long learning afforded our students.
Connie and I have been parishioners since 1971. I have been associated with Hereford Grain Corp. for 46
years. Our 5 sons attended St. Anthony’s School for their elementary education. We consider that a great
Blessing! I said yes to running for school board because of what the school has done for us.
I’m Cathy Higgins and have been on the St. Anthony Catholic School Board for the past 3 years. I was born and raised in Hereford.
I converted and joined St. Anthony's Catholic Church in 2006 and attended a Women's ACTS retreat in 2014. I've
been an active parent within the school, serving as Head Room Parent for 2 years, a classroom Room Parent for 5
years and am currently Co-President of the PTO. I have 2 daughters, Callie who's 8 years old and currently in Miss
Hartman's 2nd grade class here at St. Anthony's. And Charleigh who's 4 and will begin K4 here with Mrs. Nielsen in
August. I've worked with Kevin Knight at Edward Jones Investments for the past 10 ½ years. I'm asking for your
vote to continue serving on the St. Anthony Catholic School Board. I fully believe and support what our dedicated
teachers and staff are teaching the children every day in the hallways and classrooms. I feel being able to give our
children a Catholic education is a blessing. St. Anthony’s students learn community, service to others and the joys
of worship every day. St. Anthony’s grows our children and they become a wonderful asset for the future. It's been
a privilege serving on the board these last three years. I've seen how much it takes to operate the school. It's also
been touching to see how incredibly dedicated our Parish family is to our school and each child that receives an unmatched educa-
tion here. It would be an honor to continue to hold a seat on our School Board.
SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS: are the weekend of April 29—30. ABSENTEE VOTING will be in
the school office between APRIL 24-28 during school hours. Please VOTE for 2 nominees. VOTERS
MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD and REGISTERED MEMBERS of the Parish. Thanks to all who run,
vote, and serve!
