What does it take to believe in the

Resurrection? Many might respond

saying, “If we had only been there.” If we

have found the empty tomb, how would

we have responded? As today’s Gospel

reveals, all we have in this story is the

account of reactions to that tomb, which

changed people’s lives both then and

now. Some who saw it believed that

Jesus had risen. On this day, we rejoice

and we ponder the blessings of this

astounding mystery.

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was

dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.

---Matthew 28:1 First Reading from Acts 10:34a, 37-43 Peter preaches the Gospel to the Jews in Jerusalem.

Second Reading from Colossians 3:1-4 Those who live in Christ will be changed.

Gospel from John 20:1-9 Mary Magdalene discovers the empty tomb.

Although Baptisms are not refused at St. Bartholomew Parish, there may be times when they are delayed until various concerns are worked out. Sacraments should not be entered into lightly, under family pressure, or because they are seen as merely social or cultural conventions. The pastor of the parish must be sure that a right understanding and a proper disposition towards the sacrament is evident before they can proceed. We are not looking for perfection from our parents but a reasonable assurance that the promises they will be making at the baptismal celebration are meaningful to them and to the faith life of their family.

Living the Gospel by evangelizing our faith in the greater world..

St. Anthony’s parish in the Diocese of Guntur in India has nine mission stations which are between 10-15 kilometres away from the parish. There are nearly 350 Catholic families and five hundred children going to school from these areas. As the mission stations are a distance from the parish, the faithful do not experience many religious activities. Father Mayakuntala Kumar, pastor of the parish, with the support of the Pastoral Mission Fund and ShareLife, is conducting a Children Faith Formation Camp to help the children to become rooted in the Catholic faith. With our support, Father Kumar is helping to evangelize the faith not only for today, but for the future as well.

Next ShareLife Sunday is – May 7, 2017
