The Lord is Risen! Alleluia! He is truly Risen!! Alleluia! Alleluia! Happy Easter!!! As we joyfully celebrate Christ’s Resurrection from the dead, I share a painting by Hans Rottenhammer (1564-1625) entitled The Resurrection of Jesus

Christ, now in the National Museum in Warsaw, to help us reflect on this glorious mystery. This image teaches us many important lessons. Jesus is triumphant over the grave. The Risen Christ is raised from the grave without even moving the stone of the tomb! Jesus is overruling the soldiers keeping guard. The Risen Christ is more powerful than the powers of this world! Jesus is risen in glorious light. The darkness of the world is banished away! The glory of the Risen Christ conquers over the devil’s domain of evil and darkness. In the early Church, the catechumens who were preparing for Holy Baptism at the Easter Vigil would make public processions through the streets and gather in Church. There, they confessed the faith of the church and renounced Satan and all his works and all his ways. This marked the beginning of a series of tests for the catechumens called Scrutinies to determine their desire to remain faithful to Chris, and they were subject to a series of exorcisms.

The catechumens belonged to darkness, the kingdom of sin and death, and chaos and destruction ruled by Satan. They needed to belong to Jesus Christ, because to be separate from Him was to be joined to the realm of Satan. So they renounced Satan and all his works and all his ways. They submitted to exorcisms. As they prepared for Holy Baptism at Easter, they knew there was no neutrality when it comes to Jesus.

Recently, I read an article which criticizes the apathetic faith of modern believers. Too many Christians are neutral. The author writes, “in our day, our soft, bored, confused, and misguided day, there are many who would prefer not to think of Jesus and Christian faith in such clear, distinct, biblical categories. Around Easter time, we hear all sorts of opinions on the so-called real Jesus. The History Channel, Time, and Newsweek all offer predictable conspiracy theories and fanciful academic speculations. People who imagine themselves enlightened and progressive will attempt to soften or dismiss the scandalous, other-worldly claims of Jesus and His Gospel, and the evolved modern monkey giggles with embarrassment at the name of Satan or the thought of exorcisms. However, we are not as advanced as we would like to suppose. Sin, death, the demonic, chaos, destruction, and hatred remain with us. Read the paper. Check the data. The last century was the most savage in human history. Ideologies born from of the progressive, modern mind resulted in 190 million corpses. So Jesus is clear: You are either with Him or you are against Him. You either belong to Christ or Satan.”

Jesus stripped away Satan’s armor and power, rendering him a defeated foe. This is the apostolic witness to Jesus. This is the Christian faith. We know no other Jesus than God’s Son, fully man and fully God, who came to redeem humanity from our sin, our death, and our captivity to Satan. As we renew our Baptismal promises this Easter, who do we choose? The Risen Lord or the devil? When we publicly confess this faith in the ancient words of the creeds, like those early Christians, then we are aligned with Jesus. We know no neutrality. It is not an option.

The early Church Fathers teach us, “Christ is risen from the dead, by death, trampling down upon death, and to those in the tombs, bestowing life! Truly the Lord is risen!” We sing with our Lady, in the Regina Coeli, “Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.” May the joy of Easter fill your hearts with much rejoicing and gladness!! Happy Easter!!!

El Señor ha Resucitado! Aleluya! El ha Resucitado verdaderamente!! Aleluya! Aleluya! Feliz Domingo de Resurrección!  Mientras celebramos con alegría la Resurrección de Cristo de entre los muertos, comparto una pintura de Hans Rottenhammer (1564-1625)

titulada La Resurrección de Jesucristo, ahora en el Museo Nacional de Varsovia, para ayudarnos a reflexionar sobre este glorioso misterio. Esta imagen nos enseña muchas lecciones importantes. Jesús triunfa sobre la tumba. ¡El Cristo Resucitado es levantado de la tumba sin siquiera mover la piedra de la tumba! Jesús está ignorando a los soldados que guardan la guardia. ¡El Cristo Resucitado es más poderoso que los poderes de este mundo! Jesús ha resucitado en gloriosa luz. ¡La oscuridad del mundo es desterrada! La gloria de Cristo resucitado conquista el dominio del mal del diablo y la oscuridad. En la Iglesia primitiva, los catecúmenos que se estaban preparando para el Santo Bautismo en la Vigilia Pascual realizaban procesiones públicas por las calles y se reunían en la Iglesia. Allí, confesaron la fe de la iglesia y renunciaron a satanás y a todas sus obras y todos sus caminos. Esto marcó el comienzo de una serie de pruebas para los catecúmenos llamados Escrutinios para determinar su deseo de permanecer fieles a Cristo y fueron objeto de una serie de exorcismos. Las personas que se imaginan a sí mismas iluminadas y progresistas tratarán de suavizar o rechazar las escandalosas afirmaciones de Jesús y su Evangelio y el mono moderno evolucionado se ríe con vergüenza ante el nombre de satanás o la idea de exorcismos. Sin embargo, no estamos tan avanzados como nos gustaría suponer. El pecado, la muerte, el demonio, el caos, la destrucción y el odio permanecen con nosotros. Lee el periódico, verifica los datos. El último siglo fue el más salvaje en la historia de la humanidad. Las ideologías nacidas de la mente progresista y moderna dieron como resultado 190 millones de cadáveres. Así que Jesús es claro: estás con Él o estás en contra de El. O perteneces a Cristo o a satanás ". Jesús quitó la armadura y el poder de satanás, convirtiéndolo en un enemigo derrotado. Este es el testimonio apostólico de Jesús. Esta es la fe cristiana. No conocemos a otro Jesús más que al Hijo de Dios, totalmente hombre y completamente Dios, que vino a redimir a la humanidad de nuestro pecado, nuestra muerte y nuestra cautividad a satanás. Al renovar nuestras promesas bautismales esta Pascua, ¿a quién elegimos? ¿Al Señor resucitado o al diablo? Cuando confesamos públicamente esta fe en las antiguas palabras de los credos, como esos primeros cristianos, entonces estamos alineados con Jesús. No conocemos la neutralidad, no es una opción. Los primeros Padres de la Iglesia nos enseñan: "Cristo ha resucitado de entre los muertos, por la muerte, pisoteando la muerte y a los que están en las tumbas, ¡otorgándoles vida! ¡Verdaderamente el Señor ha resucitado! "Cantamos con nuestra Señora, en el Regina Coeli," Reina del Cielo, regocíjense, aleluya. Regocíjate y alégrate, oh Virgen María, aleluya. Porque el Señor verdaderamente ha resucitado, aleluya. "¡Que la alegría de la Pascua llene sus corazones con mucho regocijo y alegría! ¡¡¡Felices Pascuas!!!

Pan Zmartwychwstał! Zmartwychwstał prawdziwie! Alleluja! Alleluja! Wesołego Alleluja! Radośnie świętujemy Zmartwychwstanie Chrystusa. Aby pomóc nam jeszcze lepiej zgłębić tę chwalebną tajemnicę,

chciałbym się podzielić z Wami obrazem pod tytułem: „Zmartwychwstanie Jezusa Chrystusa”, pędzla Hansa Rottenhammera (1564-1625). Obraz ten jest obecnie na wystawie w warszawskim Muzeum Narodowym. Możemy się dzięki niemu bardzo wiele nauczyć. Jezus przezwycięża śmierć! Powstaje z grobu, nawet nie ruszając głazu zakrywającego komorę grobową! Chrystus przeciwstawia się żołnierzom, trzymającym wartę przy grobie! On jest potężniejszy od wszystkich potęg tego świata! Pan zmartwychwstaje, otoczony chwałą i światłem. Mroki świata ustępują przed Nim! Chwała Zmartwychwstałego zwycięża diabelskie dominium ciemności oraz śmierci! We wczesnym Kościele, katechumeni mający przystąpić do Chrztu Świętego podczas Czuwania Wielkanocnego brali udział w publicznej procesji ulicami miasta, aby na jej końcu zgromadzić się w kościele. Tam wyznawali swoją wiarę i wyrzekali się Szatana oraz wszystkich jego dzieł; poddawali się też egzorcyzmom. Ich wierność do Chrystusa poddana została serii prób. Katechumeni należeli do diabelskiego królestwa grzechu, ciemności, chaosu i śmierci. Musieli należeć do Jezusa Chrystusa, gdyż bycie daleko od Niego oznaczało trwanie we władzy Szatana. Odtrącili więc diabła i poddali się oczyszczeniu. Dawni katechumeni dobrze wiedzieli, że kiedy chodzi o Jezusa, nie może być mowy o neutralności. Niedawno przeczytałem artykuł krytykujący lenistwo, z jakim podchodzą do swej wiary współcześni katolicy. Zbyt wielu wierzących wykazuje postawę naturalną. W dzisiejszym świecie: wygodnym, znudzonym i zmierzającym w niewłaściwym kierunku, żyje wiele osób, którzy nie chcą postrzegać Chrystusa w tak jasnych i wyraźnych, biblijnych kategoriach. Co roku w okolicach Świąt Wielkanocnych następuje wysyp różnorodnych opinii o tak zwanym „prawdziwym” Jezusie. „The History Channel” oraz magazyny w rodzaju „Time'a”, czy „Newsweeka” prześcigają w teoriach konspiracyjnych i wydumanych spekulacjach na ten temat. Niektórzy „oświeceni” i „postępowi” ludzi próbują złagodzić, czy wręcz zanegować boskość Jezusa i przesłanie Jego Ewangelii. Słysząc o Szatanie lub egzorcyzmach, wysoko rozwinięta współczesna małpa tylko chichocze zawstydzona. Jako gatunek nie jesteśmy wszakże tak rozwinięci, za jakich się uważamy. Grzech, śmierć, sprawy demoniczne, chaos i nienawiść stale nam towarzyszą. Poczytajcie gazety, poszperajcie w zgromadzonych danych. XX wiek był najbardziej barbarzyńskim czasem w historii ludzkości. Za sprawą ideologii zrodzonych we współczesnych, postępowych umysłach, śmierć poniosło 190 milionów ludzi. Jezus Chrystus wyraził się jasno – albo jesteś z Nim, albo przeciw Niemu. Albo należysz do Pana, albo do Szatana. Chrystus pokonał Szatana, pozbawił go pancerza i władzy. Na tym właśnie polega dawanie apostolskiego świadectwa o Jezusie. Taka jest wiara chrześcijańska. Nie znamy innego Jezusa oprócz Syna Bożego, w pełni boskiego i zarazem w pełni ludzkiego. On to przybył odkupiciel ludzkość i wyzwolić ją z szatańskiej niewoli. Wielkanoc to dobry czas na to, aby odnowić przyrzeczenie złożone na Chrzcie Świętym. Zastanówmy się wówczas, co wybieramy: Zmartwychwstałego, czy Diabła? Publicznie wyznając naszą wiarę, wzorem pierwszych chrześcijan, jednoczymy się z Chrystusem. Nie ma mowy o neutralności. Zgodnie z nauką Ojców wczesnego Kościoła: „Chrystus Zmartwychwstał, przez śmierć, miażdżąc śmierć i dając życie tym

złożonym w grobie! Zmartwychwstał Pan prawdziwie!” Razem z Matką Bożą śpiewamy w modlitwie „Regina Coeli”: „Królowo nieba, wesel się, alleluja! Raduj się i wesel, Panno Maryjo, alleluja. Bo zmartwychwstał Pan prawdziwie, alleluja!” Niechaj radość Świąt Wielkiej Nocy wypełni Wasze serca weselem

He is Risen! Our Lenten journey is completed. Did it cause us to change? As has become the custom at St. Joseph, prior to Easter our sixth graders performed the Living Stations. This year our Living Stations was directed by Ms. Morrissette. We congratulate her and our sixth graders for the moving experience. Easter Break – St. Joseph will be on break from Good Friday, March 30th to Friday, April 6. School reopens on Monday, April 9, 2018.

Registration 2018 – 2019 – Our open registration has begun. If you are interested in a Catholic Education for your children, please contact me at the school office, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss our school program. Through the Archdiocese there are a number of assistance programs for families, to make tuition more affordable. If you do not have school aged children, please spread the good news about our school. If you are speaking to neighbors or co-workers who are interested in a Catholic Education for their children, please encourage them to speak with me. I will gladly give them a tour of our school and speak to them about our program. The University of Notre Dame did a study on the advantage of sending children to a Catholic School. If you are interested in learning more about the study I would be happy to share the information with you. Chess Club – On Friday. April 13th our school will host its annual Chess Tournament. CARDINAL’S EASTER MESSAGE  

Easter 2018 Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Risen Lord Jesus, The news today seems to be dominated by death-dealing forces and foreclosed possibilities. This past year has brought us a plague of gun-violence, streams of helpless refugees in different parts of the world, struggles in our own nation around questions of immigration and racism, countless victims of natural disasters, and large numbers of people who are—in the words of Pope Francis— “discarded.” There seems to be scant room for hope and optimism. Yet, we know by our own experience as believers and our common bonds of faith that this is not the full story of reality. There, indeed, is other news, the good news of our Easter faith. Christ has conquered all death and evil. Christ is risen! When we profess our faith in the risen Lord, we do not deny the pain and suffering at work in our world. The risen Christ himself bears his wounds of his suffering, but he is risen. He has conquered sin and death, and our victory is certain. We hold a great hope in him who leads forward. But, it does not end there, for as St. Paul tells us, all of that we celebrate in these days has taken place so that we “might live no longer for ourselves but for him who died for our sakes and was raised.” In the Archdiocese of Chicago, our commitment to Renew My Church means that we take our Easter faith seriously to the point that it becomes the source of new energy for communities and individuals who share our faith with the world and bring it hope the world cannot take away. May our faith in the Risen Lord be alive in our hearts, and may we share that gift widely and generously with others.

Pascua 2018 Estimados hermanas y hermanos en el Señor Jesús Resucitado, Las noticias de hoy en día parecieran estar dominadas por fuerzas que lidian con la muerte y con posibilidades clausuradas. Este año pasado nos ha traído una plaga de violencia con armas, corrientes de refugiados indefensos en diferentes partes del mundo, luchas en nuestro propio país en torno a asuntos de inmigración y racismo, innumerables víctimas de desastres naturales y grandes números de personas que son —en palabras del Papa Francisco— “desechadas”. Pareciera que hay poco espacio para la esperanza y el optimismo. Sin embargo, sabemos por nuestra propia experiencia como creyentes y nuestros lazos comunes de fe, que esta no es la historia completa de la realidad. Hay, de hecho, otras noticias, las buenas noticias de nuestra fe de Pascua. Cristo ha conquistado toda muerte y todo mal. ¡Cristo ha resucitado! Cuando profesamos nuestra fe en el Señor resucitado no negamos el dolor y sufrimiento que ocurre en nuestro mundo. El Cristo resucitado mismo lleva las heridas de su sufrimiento, pero ha resucitado. Ha conquistado el pecado y la muerte, y nuestra victoria es cierta. Tenemos una gran esperanza en él, que nos lleva hacia adelante. Pero, no termina allí, porque como nos dice San Pablo, todo lo que celebramos estos días ha tenido lugar para que nosotros “ya no vivamos para nosotros mismos, sino para él que por nosotros murió y fue resucitado”. En la Arquidiócesis de Chicago, nuestro compromiso con Renueva mi Iglesia significa que tomamos nuestra fe de Pascua en serio, al punto que se convierte en fuente de nueva energía para comunidades e individuos que comparten nuestra fe con el mundo y trae una esperanza que el mundo no puede quitar. Que nuestra fe en el Señor Resucitado esté viva en nuestros corazones y que compartamos ese don amplia y generosamente con otros.

Wielkanoc 2018 roku Drogie Siostry i drodzy Bracia w Zmartwychwstałym Panu Jezusie, Wydaje się, że napływające ze świata wiadomości są obecnie zdominowane przez informacje o siłach siejących śmierć i o utraconych nadziejach. Ubiegły rok przyniósł nam plagę przemocy z użyciem broni, zalew bezradnych uchodźców w różnych częściach świata. Był to rok, w którym borykaliśmy się z pytaniem o imigrację i rasizm w naszym własnym kraju, rok niezliczonych ofiar klęsk żywiołowych i dużej liczby tych, którzy – używając słów Papieża Franciszka – są wykluczeni ze społeczeństwa. Wydawać się może, że w świecie pozostało mało miejsca na nadzieję i optymizm. Jednak nasze doświadczenie jako osób wierzących i nasze wspólne więzy wiary mówią nam, że nie jest to pełny obraz rzec-zywistości. Istnieje jeszcze inna prawda, którą jest dobra nowina naszej wiary wielkanocnej. Chrystus zwyciężył śmierć i zło. Chrystus zmartwychwstał! Kiedy wyznajemy naszą wiarę w zmartwychwstałego Pana nie zaprzeczamy, że w świecie jest wiele cierpienia i bólu. Nawet zmartwychwstały Chrystus nosi na sobie rany - znak swego cierpienia - ale On zmartwychwstał. Zwyciężył grzech i śmierć, dzięki czemu nasze zwycięstwo jest pewne. Złożyliśmy wielką nadzieję w Tym, który prowadzi nas naprzód. Jednak nasza nad-zieja nie kończy się tam, gdyż - jak mówi św. Paweł - wszystko, co dziś świętujemy, musiało się wydarzyć „po to, aby ci, co żyją, już nie żyli dla siebie, lecz dla Tego, który za nich umarł i zmartwychwstał”. Nasze zobowiązanie na rzecz inicjatywy Odnów mój Kościół w Archidiecezji Chicago świadczy o tym, że poważnie traktujemy wiarę w Zmartwychwstanie. Staje się ona źródłem nowej energii dla wielu wspólnot i osób indywidualnych niosących światu wiarę i dających nadzieję, których świat nie może odebrać. Niech nasza wiara w zmartwychwstałego Pana będzie żywa w naszych sercach, abyśmy szczodrze i szeroko dzielili się nią z innymi.

Mass Intentions Mass intentions will be accepted at the Rectory office until 2 p.m. the Wednesday prior to bulletin publication. Since we work ahead one week ahead in the bulletin, the intentions must be sent to the parish office at least two weeks in advance of the bulletin date to appear in the requested bulletin. Baptisms Baptisms are held on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 2 p.m. in English and on the third Saturday of the month in Spanish at 12 p.m. (noon). Parents who have not taken a Baptism Preparation Class must do so before the Baptism. Classes are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in English in our Activity Center, 5631 S. 73rd Ave. Registration for Baptisms and Baptism Class must take place in the rectory office prior to the event. Marriage/Weddings Please contact the Rectory office at (708) 458-0501 at least one year in advance. Parish Membership We welcome everyone to our parish. News for Our Parishioners . . . De La Salle Institute will be hosting the 27th Annual D-Final Event on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 6 pm in the Parmer Activity Center located at 3434 S. Michigan Ave. Admission tickets are $35 if purchased on or before March 30, 2018. Tickets are $40 at the door. The school is also selling D-Final Super Raffle Tickets for $50 with 1,500 tickets available. The seller of the grand prize ticket will receive $1,000. All prize amounts are based upon the sale of all 1,500 tickets. Guests will be supporting the young women and men of De La Salle by attending the D-Final Event and also will have the opportunity to watch the men's college basketball national championship game with fellow Meteor alumni and friends while enjoying food and beverages. De La Salle Institute will be hosting the 11th annual Great Futures Gala at 6 p.m. Friday, April 20 at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago, 160 E. Pearson St. The school is celebrating the future of Lasallian education and engaging the minds and touching the hearts of the students entrusted to our care. The honorees are Andrew and Lynn Kopon of Kopon Airdo, LLC, George '49 and Betty Lombard of the Lombard Company and Michael Hickey '56 of Michael F. Hickey, LTD. The school will commemorate each of their many successes, highlight their significant achievements and recognize their generous contributions to a variety of worthwhile endeavors, including Lasallian education. The emcee for the 11th Annual Great Futures Gala will be NBC 5 Chicago’s Natalie Martinez. St. Joseph High School will host a Charger Casino Night fundraiser from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, April 21 in the South Gymnasium, 10900 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester. The Casino Night event tickets are $50 each and include two drink tickets, appetizers, snacks and $200 in casino chips. Those purchasing a Super Raffle ticket for $100 will receive free admission to Casino Night. Proceeds will be used as financial aid and scholarships for young men and women attending St. Joseph High School.

The evening will feature professional tables and dealers for Craps, Roulette, Texas Hold ‘Em, and Blackjack. There will also be other classic games of chance, a silent auction, music, food, and fun! Casino Night is also home of the 2018 Super Raffle drawing where $23,500 will be given away in cash prizes.
