City Schools recognizes the complexities associated with reopening schools, accelerating learning for students, and supporting teachers and leaders for SY 21-22 and beyond.
Hearing community voice has supported our revisions and recommendation for SY 21-22 and will inform design work for SY 22-23.

Family Survey:
~8000 persons responded to the survey
We heard from 1500 NEW people!
80% said YES we should consider modifying the school year calendar for the future
Staff Survey:
~1200 school-based staff responded
62.45% of responders identified as a teacher
6.8% of responders identified as a principal/assistant principal
60% said YES we should consider modifying the school year calendar for the future
Surveys were utilized to gather additional input on the development of the proposed academic calendars from families and school-based staff

Calendar Requirements

• Have a minimum of 180 actual school days and 1,080 school hours during a 10–month period in each school year
• Be open for a minimum of 3 hours during each school day.
• Not open on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays to meet the 180–day or 1,080–hour requirement.
State Requirements:
• Thanksgiving Day and the day after;
• Christmas Eve through January 1;
• Martin Luther King, Jr. Day;
• Presidents’ Day;
• The Friday before Easter through the Monday after Easter;
• Memorial Day; and
• Primary and general election days.
COMAR required public school holidays:
• All teachers are mandated to participate in the ten (10) days of scheduled professional development activities.
