Viking Weaponry and Armoury

The main weapons they used were: swords, axes, spears, but daggers and bows were also used. For armour in battle the

Vikings wore helmets, shields, and chain mail or leather tunics.

In history the Vikings were renowned for their fighting ability. Their strength and skill not only came from their gods, but the many weapons and armour that they fought with.

Footwear for Vikings was not a hassle because most of the battles were fought bare foot and the main type of transport to the battle was via ships.

SWORD

The sword was simply a weapon to kill and injure with.

Bow and arrowThe purpose was to plunge an arrow into the

enemy far away, to leave casualty or dead and

to decrease number as soon as possible.

AXE Another main weapon for the Viking warriors was the Axe. It was very strong and could easily cut through armour and give the enemy a fatal wound.

Spears could be used for stabbing and also thrown from far distances at a target making them very perilous

ChainmailUsed to save the upper body from any deep wounds inflicted by sharp weapons.

Sometimes they’d wear a leather tunic for extra safety
