7. Project Team Members: User Card Number, Name, and Affiliation
Project team members as well as project leaders are required to complete user registration in
advance. If your team members have chosen "Do not allow" for their account settings in the User
Registration page, their user card numbers are not displayed in search results and you cannot find
them; therefore, all users are strongly encouraged to choose "Allow." If necessary, please ask your
team members to change their account settings (Log in to My Page > “Edit My Details” link in the
top right hand corner). The account settings can be changed even after proposals are approved for
beamtime.

[PAGE 4: Research Purpose, Research Significance]
9. Research Purpose, Research Significance (required) (990 word limit)
Provide the research summary, research goal, research significance in your organization and industrial
field/research area. Please also elaborate on how your research can be a "New Area" in terms of industrial
field/experimental method if you have chosen "New Area" for the Application Category, and on what
industrial field/experimental method you are going to collaborate if you have chosen "Industrial Base
Consortium."
(Delete the following subtitles when you copy and paste into the online application form.)
9.1 Specify the social background, significance and needs of the proposed research.
9.2 Briefly describe the efforts your organization has made for the proposed research, and provide an
experimental outline and research goals.
9.3 Provide the expected social and organizational impact of the expected results.
9.4 Other (if any)
[PAGE 5: Description of Experiment, Experimental Plan, Future Perspective]
10. Description of Experiment, Experimental Plan, Future Perspective (required) (990 word limit)
5 Proposal Application Template (June 2011)
Provide the following information. Be sure to prefix each item of information with the corresponding
number. (e.g. 1. By using SPring-8, I plan to ...)
1. What you are going to do using SPring-8 and how
2. Detailed description of experiment: what data you want to obtain, the number and measurement
condition of samples, and why you need them
3. Reasons for your choice of beamline
4. Detailed information about samples such as name, shape, size, composition, and concentration
(This information is used to look into the feasibility of experiment and to decide on the number of
shifts to allocate. In the case of XAFS or XPS, provide samples' composition and concentration, and in
the case of thin film, provide the thickness. If you plan to use a lot of samples, please clearly explain
why.)
5. Special condition such as a particular sample environment during the measurement, and the
equipment that your team will bring to SPring-8.
6. The project team's history of research related to the proposal being submitted.
7. Progress of research (research progress made without using synchrotron radiation)
8. Future perspective: expected use of obtained results, spillover effects on product development, etc.
9. If you are submitting a one-year proposal, provide the number of shifts requested for each quarterly
period (e.g. the first half of 2010B, the second half of 2010B, the first half of 2011A and the second
half of 2011B), and explain how you calculated the shifts for each period.
If you have charts/figures illustrating the research purpose, research plan, and experimental method to attach,
upload the images (jpg/gif/png) from the "Attachments" page. Make sure to provide the corresponding
captions in the text (e.g. Fig. 1)
6 Proposal Application Template (June 2011)
(Delete the following subtitles when you copy and paste into the online application form.)
10.1 Describe the need for using SPring-8 as well. If similar measurements have already been
conducted using SPring-8, explain your experimental method referring to the difference from such
previous measurements.
10.2
10.3
10.4
10.5
10.6 If you have conducted related research at SPring-8 before, provide the circumstances that have led
you to submit this proposal and the previous related proposal(s).
10.7 Provide the technical basis for requiring measurements at SPring-8, and the preliminary results
that can be of help to the measurements.
