Appendix 5 - Digital Report 1. Introduction

1.1. Throughout the engagement process various digital engagement techniques were used to promote the self-care proposals and encourage local people to get involved and complete the online survey. This report outlines the various methods used and the responses received.

1.2. We effectively used a combination of Facebook, Twitter and the website to

reach a wide audience. We posted 13 posts to Facebook, 10 tweets, and 2 news articles to the CCG website (1 announcing the survey, and 1 a reminder that the survey was due to close). The website also had a dedicated page to the engagement explaining the rationale behind the proposals, the link to the online survey and details of how to complete the survey in other formats.

1.3. Analysis of the social media accounts indicate that Facebook was more

successful than Twitter in reaching followers, generating comments and meaningful 2-way dialogue.

1.4. We deliberately used Facebook to provoke debate amongst the users as the

majority of our target audience use this channel. Twitter was used more to broadcast our survey to stakeholders, peers and other organisations and raise the profile of the CCG.

1.5. A total of £53.53 was spent on boosting selected Facebook posts. By

boosting the posts, this guaranteed a degree of visibility for the survey as boosted posts have a higher chance of being seen by our Facebook followers, plus allowing exposure to a new audience.

NHS Blackburn with Darwen CCG Unfortunately there isn't enough money to meet the demand so it is felt that saving money here - when things are available cheaper in shops or chemists - means that money could be spent on more serious conditions and more costly treatments. A packet of paracetamol could cost 25p in supermarket but nearer £10 in NHS because of all the processes needed. We are exploring these ideas/thoughts with this consultation. Ruthie Haworth The problem with these proposals is that they hit the same people. I've got severe asthma and related severe allergies. I get 3 types of antihistamines on prescription (varying strengths, some 1 a day you and some every 4 hours). I also have chronic atopic eczema and get some moisturiser on prescription which is available over the counter. I go through all my medications very quickly. My daughter has coeliac disease, for which her gluten free food prescriptions have just been stopped. This adds a lot of money to our weekly food shopping (probably £15 - £20 a week). We are able to take this expense in our household budget, which I'm sure not all families are able to do. If we had to buy my tablets and creams, it would likely add at least another £20 a week on an already tight budget. I completely agree that over the counter drugs shouldn't be prescribed unless in extreme circumstances. As an aside, the pharmacist will not sell me antihistamines as I am breastfeeding. However, the doctor and the national drug in

Fari Hussain Definitely not on px but I do think the prices of items at the chemist is too much. Something like nit lotion. The best stuff that actually works is 11.99 a bottle. To treat a family twice u need two. That's a lot of money for a problem that occurs a lot. Even if u do try other methods. If most items are under a fiver. It wouldn't seem as painful.

Lynn Riley No. When my girls were in junior school they had headlice at least once a month. I had to spend a fortune on remedies. Obviously one parent could not afford the treatment so all the kids in the class got them again and again and again. At least if this treatment is prescribed all parents can use them. I also think reinstating the "nit nurses" would be a good idea. Unlike · Reply · Message · 2 · 3 February at 11:51

NHS Blackburn with Darwen CCG I should add that many of these things were only available on prescription but over the years, as pharmacies and supermarkets have changed, you can now get them over the counter - whereas you couldn’t previously. Julie Brandwood I think it's a good idea. A&E should be for more serious conditions, if all health centres could treat the less serious problems it would cut down waiting time and free nursing staff. The health centres are also local to many communities and people with children and the elderly would not have to travel as far. Like · Reply · Message · 24 February at 23:39 · Edited

3. Advertising (Facebook)

3.1. Facebook has many algorithms in place that determine which posts are seen, and which dwell on the bottom of the user’s news feed. Therefore the challenge for us was to get our survey link out to as wide an audience as possible

3.1.1. For the relatively small cost of £53.53, five Facebook posts were

selected to boost in order to help us reach a broader audience than they otherwise would.

3.2. Boosted Posts have a higher chance of being seen by people who have liked

our page. Whenever someone likes or comments on a boosted post, it can appear on their friends’ news feeds—even those who are not following our page—and therefore helping give us exposure to new audiences.

4. Twitter

4.1. The CCG’s Twitter page has 3,329 followers so potentially any tweet that is posted has the prospect of reaching this number of Twitter followers.

4.2. The demographic of followers is quite evenly split between females 48% and

males 52%. Similar to Facebook, the most common age range of follower is between 25 to 54 and again, it is encouraging to note that we have followers aged under 18 and over 65.

4.3. The following demonstrates the tweet activity: number of impressions made (first number) and number of engagement (second number).

4.3.1. Impressions is the number of times users saw the tweet on Twitter;

engagements is the total number of times a user has interacted with a tweet. This includes all clicks anywhere on the tweet, retweets, replies, follows, and likes.

5. Website

5.1. Besides Facebook, the CCG website was the primary resource for the engagement detailing rationale behind the proposals, category spend of the medicines/treatments affected, and ways in which the public could give their feedback. It also provided a link to a Word document of the survey which could be downloaded and posted to the CCG if preferred – See page
