    Apollo 13 is an excellent exampleportraying individual and team efforts in acrisis situation under extreme pressure, itshowcases brilliant transformation of agroup into a high performing team.

    With the help of three incidents in the

    entire story ,the depiction of conflict,leadership and team effort is evident.

    This incident revolves around threeastronauts struggling hard to survive withlimited resources due to an onboardexplosion leading to a conflict within theNASA organization questioning theirability to choose an immediate strategy to

    get them to land safely.

    Anchoring Trap

    The NASA team believed on the initial informationand were confident that they had taken all the

    necessary precautions but this proved them wrongwhich led to the explosion.

    Missing Signals Trap

    The members of NASA organization werecontinuously ignoring the warning signals of highpressure of the helium tank.

    Sunk CostWhen the designers learnt that the oxygencylinders were not in accordance with thedesign and electrical requirements theyoverlooked the faults in lieu of the successof the previous Apollo mission.

    In the incident we can say that individual behavior had a hugeimpact on the group decision-making : when the flight directorwas given the responsibility of taking a decision as to whichstrategy to adopt in order to bring the astronauts back. Hecalled in for a meeting with all the engineers and took there

    suggestions but no consensus could be reached. So he finallytook a spontaneous decision as to what strategy to beadopted and made his final verdict. The group members thenstarted to work towards a specific goal and contributed therebest towards the achievement of goal.

    Flight leader acted like a charismatic leader and others were

    following him. Flight manager took a professional decision regarding the

    replacement of the crew member as he was determinedtowards the safety and success of the mission

    There was a time when the crew membersthought that they would die any moment.

    At that time flight commanders strong will

    motivated the team and gave them thehope of life. He justified his action bysafely bringing the spacecraft and the crew

    back .
