1 Scope

1.1 GENERAL APPLICATION

1.1.1 Coverage

API "+9 co%ers inspection repair alteration and rerating procedures for )etallic piping s$ste)s that ha%e !eenin-ser%ice.

1.1.2 Intent

API "+9 :as de%eloped for the petroleu) refining andche)ical process industries !ut )a$ !e used :here practicalfor an$ piping s$ste). It is intended for use !$ organizationsthat )aintain or ha%e access to an authorizedinspection agenc$ a repair organization and technicall$8ualified piping engineers inspectors and e a)iners all

as defined in Section 3.1.1.3 Limitations

API "+9 shall not !e used as a su!stitute for the originalconstruction re8uire)ents go%erning a piping s$ste) !eforeit is placed in-ser%ice; nor shall it !e used in conflict :ith an$ pre%ailing regulator$re8uire)ents.

1.2 SPECIFIC APPLICATIONS

1.2.1 Included Fluid Services

prior inspection results and repairs in the piping s$ste)s for :hich the$ are responsi!le. In particular the$ should !riefl$re%ie: the histor$ of indi%idual piping s$ste)s !efore )a'ing an$ of the inspectionsre8uired !$ API "+9. ?See Section , of API P "+4 for supple)entar$ reco))ended

A fillet-:elded

patch shall not !e installed on top of an e isting fillet-:elded patch. hen installing a fillet-:elded patch ad=acent to ane isting fillet-:elded patch the )ini)u) distance !et:eenthe toe of the fillet-:elded shall not !e less thanshall !e defined as a )ini)u) of 29T of ti)e spent perfor)inginspection acti%ities or super%ision of inspectionacti%ities or engineering support of inspection acti%ities as
