APHRS2017 Congress President
Ken OkumuraSaiseikai Kumamoto Hospital
JHRS2017 Congress President
Kenzo HiraoTokyo Medical and Dental University, Heart Rhythm Center
It is my great pleasure and honor to invite you to the 10th Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Session (APHRS
2017), which will be held September 14–17, 2017, in Yokohama, Japan. This is a milestone session since the first
APHRS 2008 in Singapore, and I would like to congratulate all members, contributors, and guests on the successful
growth of the APHRS.
In the last 10 years, there has been impressive evolution and innovation in the fields of cardiac electrophysiology,
electrocardiology, and arrhythmia management. For example, proper management of atrial fibrillation has been a
challenge, and recent technologies for ablation such as 3-dimensional mapping systems, contact force sensing
catheters and high-resolution mapping, as well as the development and launch of direct oral anticoagulants, have
substantially altered and improved its management. With these robust developments, the science of cardiac
arrhythmias in the APHRS countries has greatly improved, and many novel findings and information have been
generated by APHRS members and published worldwide. As a result, the APHRS scientific session is highly
evaluated and will continue to develop in the future.
The 10th APHRS will be held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Heart Rhythm
Society2017(JHRS) (Congress President: Kenzo Hirao, Tokyo Medical and Dental University). As stated by Prof.
Hirao, the scientific session will cover all of the recent advances in cardiac arrhythmias, electrophysiology and
electrocardiology. I am sure that by attending the joint scientific sessions of APHRS and JHRS 2017, all participants
will be impressed and satisfied with the level of science in the APHRS region. I and the scientific session committee
members look forward to welcoming you to Yokohama facing the beautiful Tokyo Bay area in September 2017
under the title “Advancing Together in Heart Rhythm”.
It is an honor for me to serve as the president of the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society 2017,
September 14 – 17, 2017 at PACIFICO Yokohama. This congress will be held jointly with the 10th Asia Pacific Heart
Rhythm Society Scientific Session (Congress President: Ken Okumura, Saiseikai Kumamoto Hospital), under the
respective slogans of “Shaping Together the Brilliant Future of JHRS” and “Advancing Together in Heart Rhythm.”
The congress will cover aspects from state-of-the-art concepts in basic research to pharmacological treatments,
diagnosis & treatment of sudden death, and catheter ablation, and the progress and future development in implantable
devices. Lectures and symposia, various educational programs and an exhibit of related medical devices are planned.
Jointly hosted by JHRS, the top Japanese arrhythmia authority, and APHRS, with its strong international background,
we expect to see great academic and medical achievements. This is also an excellent opportunity to introduce the
academic progress and advanced medical technology in the field in Japan to Asia-Pacific participants, and to encourage
further international exchange.
I sincerely appreciate the efforts of many colleagues who are contributing to assure the success of this congress, and
hope for a personally rewarding experience for everyone.
