António B S Parreira Antonio Parreira has been the Clinical Director of theChampalimaudClinicalCentreinLisbonsince2011.Heisalso Professor of Medicine at the New University ofLisbonFacultyofMedicalSciences,wherehehas taughtsince1996.Hegraduatedinmedicinein1972fromtheUniversityofLisbon FacultyofMedicine and completedhis doctorateinMedicineatthesameuniversityin1989.From1981to1990hewas a specialist inHaematology in SantaMariaHospital. Between 1983 and 1985, as a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation grantholder,hewasaResearchFellowattheLeukaemiaUnitoftheRoyalPostgraduateMedical School, Hammersmith Hospital, in London. In 1989 he defended his PhDthesis (Immunological Characterisation of Acute Leukaemias) at the University ofLisbon, becoming Adjunct Professor of Haematology in the University of LisbonFacultyofMedicinein1990.In1992heapplied tobecomeheadof theHaematologyService in thePortugueseInstituteofOncology in Lisbon,ultimatelyassuming thedirectionof theService in1994. From1996 to 2011 hewasAssociate Professor ofHaematology in theNewUniversityofLisbonFacultyofMedicalSciences.Between1996and2004hedirected the IPOLFGDepartmentofMedicalOncologyand, between 2004 and 2011, the Department of Haematology, accumulatingresponsibilitiesasDirectorofOncologicalResearchatIPOLFG(2008to2011).HehasmaintainedhislinktoFCMLsince2012asemeritusProfessor.HeisanacademicmemberofthePortugueseNationalAcademyofMedicineandamember of the following scientific societies: Lisbon Society of Medical Sciences,PortugueseHaematologySociety,SpanishHaematologyandHaemotherapySociety,European Society for Medical Oncology, European Haematology Association andAmericanSocietyofHaematology.António Parreira’s scientific interests in Oncology focus on chroniclymphoproliferative disorders, namely CLL, indolent lymphomas and multiplemyeloma..
