From the Pastor…

To God We Bring Thanksgiving

The leaves are falling everywhere,

And now the feathered legions,

That filled with song the summer air,

Have left for milder regions.

For harvest here and harvest there

To God we bring Thanksgiving,

Who will with us His heaven share

As Father of the living.

These are but two of the stanzas from a

song - hymn by N.F.S. Grundtvig (nine stanzas

in all) that surely describes this Fall season.

Here in Iowa the harvest is nearly completed,

a number of fields have already been prepared

for the Spring planting, and the leaves are

boasting their brilliant colors.

Mary Jo and I are visiting family up north

this last week of October - Altoona, Ames,

Minneapolis, Stillwater (both Minnesota) and

Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We’ll return on Friday,

October 30, in time to attend the Reformation

event at Trinity Lutheran on Saturday, the

31st. We look forward to All Saints Sunday on

November 1 when we’ll remember all those

who have died in the faith.

Then it’s time to be thinking of Thanksgiv-

ing - if you haven't already been impressed by

all of the store displays. It’s a national holiday

- not a church holiday - but surely an appropri-

ate time to find ways to thank our Creator for

all his gifts and our Savior for the gift of him-

self.

See you in church!!

Pastor Ralph Andersen

HOMEBOUND

CARD

MINISTRY

Please help remember Bethany’s members

who are in nursing homes or homebound by

sending them a card. A birthday or a

“thinking of you” card is a special way of

showing God’s love. The holiday season is

almost upon us, so send a card today and let

them know you’re thinking of them. Names

and addresses are available on the table in

the fellowship hall. Please remember to

mark the spreadsheet if you send a card.

ALL INVITED

The next Sunday Soup Date with Bishop

Burk will be November 8, from4:30 - 7:00

p.m. The location will be Faith Lutheran

Church in Eldridge, IA. This is a free

event and dinner is provided. All attend-

ing are asked to bring a can of soup to do-

nate to a local food pantry or a financial

donation to ELCA World Hunger. Ques-

tions? Contact Pastor Eric Carlson at the

SEIA Synod office.

We offer thanksgiving and praise for the

Bethany Men’s group, especially Mike Hopp, Spencer Honsey, Bob Staub and Mark

Rosenberg for their amazing job replacing the

skirting of my house. Best wishes and prayer count too!

Mike won’t have to go underneath to thaw

plumbing this winter!

Hey youth!!

Watch your bulletins for a special event

being planned for November. Details

haven’t been finalized yet, but it will be

of the “fun” variety.

Page 7: “You Satisfy the Hungry Hearts”n.b5z.net/i/u/10149914/f/November_2015_Chimes.pdf · “You Satisfy the Hungry Hearts” This will be the theme for our 2015 Stewardship Cam-paign

Bethany will not be having a Thanksgiving

service this year. We will once again join the folks at Messiah Lutheran Church.

Service will begin at 7:00 p.m., however a

light supper will be served prior to the worship. All are welcome!!

Thank you so much to everyone who

participated in the Annual Lutheran

Churches Blood Drive. Our event provided 17 donations for local hospitals served by

the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Cen-

ter. Because each whole blood donation can be processed into multiple blood compo-

nents, our blood drive provided up to 68

products for patients in need.

New - To - You Messiah Lutheran is holding their annual

New - To - You Christmas sale on Saturday,

November 14. The event runs from 9:00

a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and is open to anyone. All proceeds to go support Kids Against Hunger

Greater Burlington.

On Sunday, November 8,

10 :30 a.m., there will be a short class for those

wishing to help with serv-

would like a refresher.

This is open to anyone. Questions? See Todd Chelf
