3 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Next weekend is Commitment Weekend when we will conclude our parish participation in the On the Way - ¡Andale! Capital Campaign. So far we’ve been able to raise $205,000 thanks to your very generous support. Our parish will benefit greatly from this campaign and we need the support of everyone who makes up our faith community. If you haven’t made your pledge

yet, you will have the opportunity to make a pledge at Mass next weekend. Please don’t let this opportunity to ma-ke a difference pass you by.

Stewardship engenders a spirituality that deepens our relationship with Jesus. Stewardship involves intentional, planned, and proportionate giving of our time, talent, and treasure.

April 8, 2018 2nd Sunday of Easter

Should we be a little easier on Thomas? The last few days have been a whirlwind. On Thursday, a Passover celebration went horribly awry as Jesus was betrayed and taken into custody for unstated crimes. Less than 24 hours later, the simple arrest has turned into a death sentence to be carried out that very afternoon. Most of the disciples fled, including Thomas. He would have heard of the events of Good Friday secondhand, in shock over the death of his Lord and Master. Then Sunday morning arrives with joy from a few disciples-Jesus is risen! But there is no persistent sight of him, only Mary Magdalene's quick moment in the garden and an empty tomb. Another day passes. The Apostles are gathered that Monday night, but Thomas is absent. He returns to a jubilant report of the risen Lord. Again, Thomas has seen nothing.

The experience must have been surreal. Did Jesus really appear raised from the dead? Did he really suffer and die? Has all of this been some strange hoax? Desperate for an answer, Thomas insists, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."

After his resurrection, Jesus' body--mangled and bloody from the crucifixion--is restored. Did it need the scars? A perfected body would have taught us one lesson: everything is renewed as it once was, the past erased. Jesus chooses another lesson, however. He retains his scars that we might know him. In the whirlwind of our lives, we make our own mistakes, our own betrayals and compromises. In the resur-rected Jesus, we see a God who does not forget his own sorrow. We are invited to meet him--wound for wound--and place our hand on his own nail-scarred palm, the eternal sign of his everlasting mercy.

CATECHESIS OF GOOD SHEPHERD

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori based religious formation for children. It seeks to create and facili-tate a sacred, “hands-on” space for children called an atri-um, in which both the children and the catechists can hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith as revealed in the scriptures and the litur-gy. This methodology came to St. Joseph in 2017 and has been received with joy by the children. Being with the chil-dren in the atrium each week allows the adult glimpses into the mystery of God and His abundant love. Are you being called to share this journey?

Coming Summer 2018/2019 – Level 1 CGS Formation

The Level One Formation course consists of 90 hours of study and prepares the catechist to work with children, ages 3 to 6. The catechist will become grounded in both theory and praxis in order to develop and facilitate a level one atrium in a parish setting. The foundation of the course is the parable of the Good Shepherd and the Covenant Relation-ship, which will enhance the participant’s personal relation-ship with Christ our Savior. This formation requires a deep commitment on the part of the catechist; it is life giving and can be life changing. Course dates will take place over two summers, with practi-cal Atrium experiences between the summer sessions: June 14 – 17 & August 3-5 of 2018 and again from June 13-16 & July 12-14, 2019. Please contact Beate Buescher, 210-889-9869 or [email protected].
