“We Feel the Love of God from You…”

Family Retreats humble me. The families Ken and I meet are powerful examples of God’s sustaining grace to the weary and

wounded. Like the Trotters. Things were going along nicely for Rob and Cheryl, then their first son, Sam, was born with microcephaly, epilepsy, and vision problems. Overnight, their days were filled with tube-feedings, constant seizures, toileting challenges, and never-ending medical appointments.

To the surprise of doctors, Sam grew into a hardy young boy (adding lots more work). But the love of Rob and Cheryl for their precious son grew even stronger. They prayed constantly, wondering, why doesn’t God heal our Sam?

When the Trotter family (including by now, little Toby) attended Family Retreat, they discovered at least ‘one reason’ why God placed Sam in their lives. They saw a vibrant display of God’s power and grace in the lives of other families with

children who have special-needs. Cheryl and Rob realized that Sam was God’s way of keeping them desperately dependent on Jesus! For them? It was life-transforming. For Sam, too (I was so blessed by his beaming smile during worship time)! It was all the healing this family needed.

There are countless weary and wounded families like the Trotters – they, too, need to experience the power and vibrancy of God’s grace in disability. But the waiting lists for Family Retreats are often long, and other families need either full or partial scholarships. But as our Bible verse to the right says, you have an opportunity to “satisfy the desire of the afflicted” – and it can happen through your prayers and your faithful support! So, on behalf of families struggling with disability, join me in praying and giving… and don’t be surprised if “your light rises even higher in the darkness!” “ ”

If you satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness.

ISAIAH 58:10

Even though you may be thousands of miles away, you encouraged a young family in Thailand with the love of Jesus at an International Family

Retreat. Wi brought her 4-year-old son, Win, who has cerebral palsy, to Retreat, and they left feeling encouraged as Gospel seeds were planted in their hearts.

This precious family has to deal with the stigma of disability (and the belief in Karma is held highly) in their country. There’s also the financial burdens of caring for their disabled son. Win’s father had to seek out additional jobs to cover his medical expenses and therapy treatments. They could never even dream of attending a spiritual, and much-needed Retreat like this...

Your steadfast prayers and faithfulness gave Wi, her son Win, and his grandmother, Leah, the opportunity to attend International Family Retreat! There, Wi and Win found community and experienced the love of Jesus! Wi shared, “Thank God and you for the great

opportunity that we’ve been given. May God bless you all. I feel so happy when I see the volunteers and other families loving on my son.”

This unique experience is a time for families with children who have special-needs to be united with other families like them and receive the love and hope of Jesus Christ in a country that is primarily Buddhist. Win shared a special message to you, “Thank you very much for making this Retreat happen so that families like us have an opportunity to take rest. May God bless you and your ministry to us.”

Friend, do not become weary in doing good as you continue to faithfully pray for and support these special-needs families worldwide. This encouraging message is for you! Jesus continues to use you for His Kingdom! You are part of this Gospel legacy!

Jesus tell us to go out into the streets, find the disabled, and compel them to come inside so that His house will be full (Luke 14). And you did just that through your faithful prayers and support! You gave children

with special-needs and their families the joy of Jesus at Family Retreats and International Family Retreats. Every prayer you whispered and every donation you made for them all adds up in God’s kingdom. Thank you for loving Jesus by loving His people. You’ve made an eternal difference for the kingdom so that children with special-needs and their families can enter into a lasting relationship with Jesus. Thank you!
