● porting of cy41t1 – cy41t1 running on E-suite
● Denitsa Baracova defended master degree thesis on the Numerical study on the effect of charge sepatation at low cloud temperature and effective water content on thunderstorm electrification.
● She will continue with a PhD!
● cy41t1 ported for Open MP.
● It is running on e-suite in configuration ALADIN + SURFEX. Configurations ee927 upper air and surface, integration job (001), in line and off line Fullpos and add surf are working well.
● The new clim files were created.● The thesis was done by Denitsa
Baracova under the supervision of Boryana Tsenova

● Surface– New z0 (and other topography)
● Based on hi-res input● More realistic fields
– SST from OSTIA and ROMS● Improved precipitation
– MESCAN ● More physical SWI

● DA of Mode-S MRAR data – impact of new high-resolution
aircraft data is studied
– positive impact was foundin the nowcasting context and in the first hours of NWP forecast
– further optimizations of horizontal and vertical thinning (25km & 15hPa)and observation errorswas proposed

Brier Skill Score, added value of PEARO (blue line) versus PEARP (global system, red line) : threshold event is RR > 1mm/6h, computed over 302 instances of the EPS systems (Dec. 2015 - Oct. 2016). The higher the Brier Skill Score is, the better the probabilistic system performed for that event.

Operational verificationHARP – Hirlam-Aladin R-Package already runs operationally for Aladin-Poland. This point to point verification is done as for single station as for all stations together, and is used for deterministic forecast. There are three meteorological models we can verify: ALARO, AROME and GFS. The observational data we use for this verification are synoptic stations data, with next step - adding automatic stations and radar data with spatial verification methods.
AROME B matrix
Here are examples of the interactive verification menu and the results of verification for single station and all stations together, for last 30 days of forecast and all daily runs together.
Preparations for DA in AROME had started. B matrix was built on the base of our domain AROME ensamble forecast, with LBC from AEARP. Domain is 799x799 grid points, with 2km horizontal resolution, 60 vertical levels. 6 members, two times per day forecast was performed for 30 days.
