ABSTRACT

Rokhman, Fatkhur Nor. 2015. “Puppet Show” in Teaching English Pronunciation

(An Experimental Research in Fifth Grade Students of SD 1 Purwosari

Kudus in Academic Year 2014/2015)”. Skripsi English Education

(II) Rusiana, S.Pd, M.Pd

Key Word: Puppet Show”and English Pronunciation

Teaching pronunciation is important in teaching English. The way of

pronouncing words can influence communication. But, the teaching of

pronunciation is noteasy because the teacher must be careful in some aspects, for

example: teaching pronunciation by knowing the position ofthelips, the jaw and

the tongue. The English teacherof SD 1 Purwosari Kudusteachesnot

onlythearticulation but also stress and intonation of words. She also said that when

the teacher taught to pronounce words, the students are following it well. But five

to ten minutes later students forget that how to pronounce these words.

Studentslost of their attention. To solve the problem above and also attract the

students’ attention, an interactive method or media is needed. The use“Puppet

Show” is as an alternative medium of teaching young learnerswhich is considered

as the useful solution of those problems above.

The objective of the research are (1) To find out the significant difference

between the pronunciation skill of fifth grade students of SD 1 Purwosasi in

academic year 2014/2015 before and after being taught by using “Puppet Show”.

The design of this research is quashi experimental research. This uses

design of research by using one group pre-test and post-test. The writer conducts

the experimental research for the fifthgrade students of SD 1 Purowsari Kudus in

academic year 2014/2015. The numbers of students were 24 students.

The result of the research is; there is a significant difference between the

ability of English pronunciation of the fifth grade students of SDN 1 Purwosari

Kudus in the academic year 2014/2015 before and after being taught by using

“Puppet Show”.It is proved by the level of significance 0.05% and degree of

freedom (df) 23. This is shown by the data that the t observation (t0) is 9.16 and

the t table (tt) is 1.71, the result is t0>tt (t observation is higher than t table). While,

the ability of English pronunciation before being taught by using “Puppet Show”

got the mean 63.67 and after being taught by using “Puppet Show”, the

calculation of mean is 83.17.

The suggestionsare; (1) Teachers can apply “Puppet Show” in teaching

English pronunciation because it is proved that it works well to make students’

English pronunciation to be better than before, (2) Students in elementary school

are very attractive. Teachers should manage their activities in the classroom in

order to help them to master English pronunciationby using “Puppet Show”

during learning English process and (3) To further researchers, they are hoped to

try “Puppet Show” to another kind of English skill.

ABSRAKSI

Rokhman, Fatkhur Nor. 2015. "Pertunjukan Boneka” dalam Pembelajaran

Pengucapan Bahasa Inggris (Sebuah Penelitian Eksperimental di Siswa

Kelas Lima SD 1 Purwosari Kudus Tahun Ajaran 2014/2015)".Skripsi.

Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu

Pendidikan, Universitas Muria Kudus. Dosen Pembimbing: (I) Dra. Hj.

Sri EndangKusmaryati, M.Pd, (II) Rusiana, S.Pd, M.Pd

Kata kunci: Pertunjukan Boneka dan Pengucapan Bahasa Inggris

Mengajar pengucapan penting dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris. Cara

mengucapkan kata-kata dapat mempengaruhi komunikasi. Tapi, pengajaran

kemampuan pengucapan bahasa Inggris siswa kelas lima SDN Purwosari 1 Kudus

berbahasa Inggris.
