COMMUNITY RELIEF FUNDThe United Way has established a Community Relief Fundthat will provide funding to meet the unmet needs from thetornado disaster last week. An unmet need in thiscircumstance means after the insurance companies havesettled and FEMA funds are deployed, many families will stillrequire a lot of assistance. These cases will be handledthrough a long-term recovery committee (LTRC) comprisedof funding sources such as United Way. Long-term recoverycan take a year or two, with the disaster at that point beingfar removed from the public eye. Contributions made to theCRF through the United Way will be dollar in-dollar out andwill only be for the use of the LTRC.

LENT - EASTER

Is it Lent already? Yes, it is already Lent. Lent begins 40 days prior to Easter Sunday, not countingSundays. Lent is beginning early this year, because this year Easter is quite early.

Easter is calculated to be the first Sunday, following the first full moon, following the Spring equinox. (The equinox and the full moon are calculated from the Gregorian calendar not by astronomicalobservation.) Easter can fall as early as March 22nd or as late as April 25th. This year it falls onMarch 27th which is almost as early as is possible. Thus Lent begin quite early this year.

In recent years, Easter has occurred earlier. In 2008, it was on March 23rd. In 2011 it fell on April24th almost as late as is possible. For those of you who like to plan ahead, next year Easter will beApril 16, 2017.
