The day proceeded like clockwork and the happy couple are now honeymooning across the ditch, currently in Queenstown. Several teams were stretched on the day as many chose to help the couple celebrate the occasion instead of playing our great game, and there was even rumours floating that the young Mr Bolte was seen in a suit and tie! We’re still waiting for the photographic evidence.. Thank you to all the members past and present for coming together at the Elanora Hotel to farewell a true legend of the sport – George Lammi. Our thanks go to Keith Pitty and Matt Nicholls for organising the evening that George would have probably said was “too much of a fuss” over him. It was great to hear the stories and achievements over his 50+ year career in the game and to see many former team mates come together on the night. RIP, dear friend. Bluetongues Christmas Celebration. Keep the afternoon of December 15 th available because if rumours are true, we’ll see a special guest making an appearance at the 2 nd home of cricket, Fagan Park along with a helper or two to join the kids in a number of other activities and games to help celebrate the festive season. Cricket pathways with Brisbane Water CC. As you read the following sections, I’d like you to think about the player progression – from starting out, through skills development, to testing yourself on the field with stages of its own and then to the senior game on hard wickets then turf. The structure of developing through the early stages of the game is set by Cricket Australia and Central Coast Cricket is bound by those constraints. Brisbane Water CC (BWCC) encourages all participants (on the field or not) to keep the elements of ‘enjoyment and fun’ front of mind at all times and your Committee welcomes your input into how we can continue, even improve delivering that outcome for all our members. Don’t hesitate to contact our Club Secretary, Jeff Vilensky, on 0418 608 868 or [email protected] with suggestions or updates from around the grounds. Woolworths Junior Blasters commences! Our youngest players started last week under the watchful eye of Ken Pieroz at Fagan Park. Each Tuesday from 5pm Ken will start to develop the players with skills and plenty of fun activities where parents are encouraged to get involved and enhance the positive environment. The program will run each Tuesday to December 18 th , then resume on January 22 nd 2019.

Our opening pair started out strongly with Flynn McCabe scoring 82 in a resilient display with the wickets falling around him he played some great cricket shots he was supported in part by James Milburn with a dashing 18 although the runs were hard to come by with a slow outfield the other batsman all supported Flynn well. Lets bring on next Saturday and hopefully our bowling attack can roll the opposition. Cheers Anthony” u16A – Friday night lights! Lachie Spencer continues to be our sole representative in this new format of the game as he joins the Barbarians team each Friday afternoon for a season of one and two day cricket. Hot off their first round win against Wyong, the team is resting with the ‘bye round’. Their next game is a one-day match v. Lisarow at Fagan Park on November 30. Play starts at 4:30pm. 7th Grade – Seniors Some of our longest serving members and players rock up each week, strap up knee guards, lather in liniment and take to the field for the love of the game! Captain Blocker Billins is closing in on a career milestone of 500 club wickets and that should be achieved by the end of year break. Also returning is Lee Maraga, who has performed well with both bat and ball and well on his way to another cracker season. Jason Plant is also atop the leader board with equally fine bowling thus far. The boys take on Kincumber at Kariong Oval this Saturday afternoon in what pans out to be a fairly even affair. Best of luck!

20181115 Bluetongues Edition 2019-02.docx

5th Grade – Seniors The aforementioned wedding of SK to now JK presented a challenge to the selectors and by the start of their most recent game we had 10 willing and able to take on The Entrance. Plenty of players reached starts (Brad Guest 37, Richard Frost 30, Matthew Frost 17, Tony Belcher 15 and u16’s recruit Ishan Medhi 15) and a score of 146 from 36 overs should have been competitive. Our opposition had other ideas and with a reduced fielding side week 1 and even less week 2, a score of 292 was achieved and we needed plenty of runs to make a game of it. A huge shout-out to Frosty for his 6 wicket haul and Mitch Rodgers’ 3! The boys responded well and again some innings’ were progressing (Tom Waterhouse 48, Michael Wilkie 38, Brad Wood 35) for an accumulated 177, but the opposition made quick of the additional runs required. This round we have the bye. The team would like me to pass on a huge thanks to Beth Bolte who scores for the team each week and is about to embark on live scoring their games! 4th Grade – Seniors Captain Brad Watson put on a brave face last round as only 8 players joined him at Kariong Oval for their clash with ladder leaders The Entrance. Brad made the smart move after winning the toss to bat first, sending in Joel T Ryan (54) and u16 junior Jack Hunter (5) to face the new ball. Scoring was measured on the lush outfield and our guys reached 93 from 40 overs. Our opposition took full advantage of the open field and amassed 100 at 5 an over and that name again, JT Ryan taking the solitary wicket. A quick drink break and we’ve got the pads back on and by the end of the days play, we’re down to a final wicket but at least we’re ahead on the score board! Anthony Everson made a handy 17 by the close of innings in his first year of playing this great game. Returning to the ground week 2 our guys put every ounce of effort into defending the small total, but with 9 players again, this was not possible. The team takes on Kincumber at McKillop Oval this round for another two-day game. 2nd Grade – Seniors on turf wickets Will Byrne returns to the game captaining the team as they took on Kincumber at Erina Oval. Midweek recruit Andrew MacDougall (3/24 from 5) showed fine form early taking the first 3 wickets and when the runout is included, the home side were reeling at 4/25. Off season signing Dean Mills (1/28 from 11) nabbed the 5th wicket with the score on 32 and the skipper was pumped! An uninjured Chris Johnston (1/40 from 14) put his mark on MyCricket with the 6th wicket at 69. The following partnership of 80 was only broken by a genius bowling change as the skipper threw the ball to youngster Lachlan Spencer. With a pat on his bum and a whisper in his ear he DEMOLISHED the tail with precision line and length bowling, taking the final 4 wickets for just 12 runs to conclude the first innings at 159. With 36 overs left in the day, Ben Shelley (17) and in his first appearance this year Josh Plint (37) strode to the middle. We finished the day 3 wickets down.

20181115 Bluetongues Edition 2019-02.docx

As it happens with turf wickets, the elements can have an influence and the repeated rain during the week didn’t let up on Friday night to turn a batting wicket the week before into a bowlers delight on the second day of play. Medium seam bowling from one bowler in particular took 6 of our wickets for only 26 runs as the strong position was slowly eroded away to a first innings loss, all out for 115. The tail did wag with Johno not out on 18 and our international import Atif (13) the final wicket to fall. Fresh from a restful offseason, G Porter made his second appearance for the Bluetongues and word on the street is he’s already working on his Audi for 2019. First Grade – top grade on turf. Round 6 was the first of the two-day 90 over games at the home of cricket, Adcock Park and after winning the toss, our boys took the opportunity to post a score first. Ceebs (Carl Bolte 12) saw skipper Ben Cohen (9) and Dave Mitchell (1) come and go cheaply and the new partnership with Shaun Hill looked promising until Carl popped his 66th delivery back to the bowler. BWCC were then 4/36 early on as Hayden Scott didn’t trouble the scorers. Another partnership between mates Shaun and Ben Sunshine (14) failed to take advantage of the conditions and the steady flow of wickets conspired against us – 5/62 and then 6/67. Jordan Vilensky (45*) joined the game and his early patience paid off to anchor the innings to the final wicket much to the praise of his team mates on the sideline including commentary from his skipper to “he should go down the ground now”. Lewis Cavendar (15) fell at 7/90, Dane Crocker (7) at 8/117, Trent Scott (1) at 9/120. Jordan sensed the impending innings close and worked with Mitch Wood (6) on putting as many runs on the board as possible, until Mitch holed out at mid-off and a team tally of 141 was on the board. Kincumber had their turn next and 19yo Dane was given the new ball. Between him and Ben, the bowling was tight, which setup the (now) genius move of bowling Trent (3/15 from 12) early. Success came in just his second over with an easy stumping to Jordan the keeper. More wickets in his 4th and 5th overs and team confidence soared when 3 of the opposition were back in the sheds with the score at just 28. The rest of the day was uneventful - a stark contrast to the events that took place on day two .. .. .. .. Day Two. Matt Sunshine in, Trent Scott out. 20 runs were scored in 7 overs before the skipper called on Matt to have a crack. Going for 3 runs in his first 4 overs was a great start and then he tweaked it up a few notches and bent his back like never before. The next 24 deliveries earned him 5 wickets ( and an overall of 5/8 from 8) for just 5 runs to catapult the team into a first innings winning position as brother Ben (2/30 from 24) finished with the final wicket. Kincumber had lost 7 wickets for just 11 runs to end their innings at 82. That’ll be 6 points please! Second Innings – going for maximum points! Ceebs (5) and Ben (6) didn’t take long to move out of the way for Dave (73/62) and Lewis (34/30) to embark on a rampaging run generating partnership of 85 in just 10.3 overs. The video is in post-production now and hopes to be ready for the weekend. I may be bias but I know it is a must watch edition! At the fall of Lewis’ wicket, Matt was given an opportunity, which really only allowed him to be one step closer an Audi of his own. Shaun and Hadyen made the best of the few overs left and took our second innings total to 5/137 declared and a new ball was summoned from the box.

Kincumber second innings. Ben handed them 40 overs to have a crack at the 197 run difference. The Bluetongues had other ideas and surgically set out to re-write the books on team work. 1 for 5 2 for 20 3 for 22 4 for 28 5 for 32 6 for 34 7 for 43 8 for 56 9 for 67 10/100 The Sunshine boys were having a ball and tearing into the opposition as you can see from the above fall of wickets. Throw in 2 well deserved scalps to Dane and by the time the 9th wicket fell in the 23rd the result was never in doubt. Matt helped himself to another 5-wicket haul and Ben was steady as ever for 2 for 25 from 10 overs. As the tail wagged and the boys were no doubt getting thirsty, 17yo Mitch was given the rock and nabbed the final wicket to record an emphatic outright win and maximum 10 points. u21 – Sunday T20 cricket The team came together for the first game this year at Umina taking on Southern Spirit. Being sent in was an interesting decision but looked to be the right one as our boys ended their 20 overs with 104 on the board. Lachlan Shelley (16) was solid in the top order and it wasn’t until brother Ben (32) arrived that the run rate started to climb. Huge shout out to Ayden Stokes for his 15* to earn praise from the players and spectators alike. He’ll be back….. Our turn with the ball and the all pace attack struggled after Matt Sunshine (1/22) grabbed the first wicket with several other players backing up from the First Grade victory the day before. Southern started to cruise with the experienced pair of batters picking their shots and accumulating half the runs at the half way mark for the loss of that solitary wicket. The next bowling change saw the worm almost reverse as Mitch Wood earned the figures of 3 for 7 from his 4 overs (plus 2 run outs) to increase the required run rate to challenging levels. 15yo Ayden Stokes was given the ball in the 19th over and in removing their big hitter, assured a Bluetongues victory by 14 runs. This was a classic case of score board pressure combined with players that love the game and know what it takes to play at this level.
