With the very successful School Jubilee Celebrations now behind us, we have reached the midway point in Term 2. In recent weeks, children have been very busy with their learning, in particular learning about Godly Leaders, writing recounts & persuasive arguments and participating in 40 Hour Famine initiatives. Additionally, during this busy time we received our confirmed ERO report (as detailed in last week’s Friday Flyer). This report, and our response to the report, will be available on the school website shortly. Highlights in pictures from the past few weeks… All Charter, Strategic and Annual Planning documentation has now been approved by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and your Board of Trustees (BoT). Based on community feedback and MoE guidance, this documentation describes the strategic direction the school will take over the next 3-5 years. Additionally, the annual section describes the outworking of the 2017 section of this long term strategic plan. This documentation is now available for viewing on the school website and a hard copy is available (on request) from the school office. Additionally, I am happy to announce that we are on schedule to open our seventh classroom at the commencement of Term 3! This classroom will be created to reduce student numbers in the Tui class whereby making more space available for additional new entrant students who are pre-enrolled for this year. The school library (to be temporary relocated to the hall) will become our new classroom for Terms 3 & 4 while building work is undertaken on our downstairs classroom space. In 2018, the library will return to its current location and our seventh classroom will move downstairs. “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

Uniform Update…info for parents

NZ Uniforms have apologised to Maranatha for the delay in getting the new cargo trousers into store. They have explained that there were issues internally around ordering this stock item, so they currently do not have enough stock for all their customers. They have been able to source limited numbers to be embroidered with our logo and put in stock. Please telephone the store to see if they have the size you want. They expect their order to arrive in late July (and are working on bringing this forward).

Other new items that are in stock are the sleeveless blue fleece vest (for layering) and a beanie. Please see attached price list which includes the latest items.

We are a Community Emergency Hub not a Civil Defence Centre Community Emergency Hubs are about the community coming together to do what it can to help each other - people helping people with what they have available. The Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO) works with our communities to empower and promote a community-led response to the challenges communities will face during a disaster. As we saw in Christchurch and other disasters around the world, people want to help those in need. After a significant emergency, such as an earthquake, the community will naturally come together for company, to share their stories about their experience, find out information, offer assistance to those who need it, and look for assistance. Community Emergency Hubs (formally known as Civil Defence Centres) are pre- identified places for the community to coordinate their efforts to help each other during and after a disaster. Community Emergency Hubs will be opened by people in their community, not official staff, when there is need for the community to help itself, such as when there has been widespread infrastructural damage, damage to buildings and roads, or communication networks are down for extended periods. Our school is a Community Emergency Hub and plans have been put in place to ensure the community can gather here after a large emergency to help each other. To find out more, visit http://www.getprepared.org.nz/hubs. If you want to be involved in the Community Planning process, contact Ashleigh Brown ([email protected])

Production DVD orders If anyone is interested in buying a copy of the “Adventure in Time” School Production DVD, we are taking orders! Once we have sufficient numbers we will place an order . Please email/ring the School Office to put your name down to receive one. Only $15 each!

Wellycon is NZ's biggest, friendliest boardgaming convention and it's all about enjoying quality-time playing modern board games! Attendees don't need to own any games of their own. Instead, other attendees bring their games to share and put them into a central game library. Simply select a game, find some people to play with and off you go. Wellycon volunteers are also there to help teach the rules, find games to match experience levels and help find more players if needed. There is also a family session on Sunday from 10am to 2pm, which has plenty of treats for all attendees and helpers on hand to guide those in need. Queen's Birthday Weekend, 3-4 June 2017 Wellington Girls' College. Gaming from 10am to 10pm Sat & Sun. Sunday Family session 10am - 2pm.
