Short Synopsis

A 20-something art student is in love with the teacher’s assistant in the classroom across the hall from her art studio at school. Everyday, as she paints by herself on an easel, she sees him pass by the door and into his classroom. They often smile and wave at each other, but no real contact is seen. Sometimes the girl will be sketching at a table and looks to her left to see him erasing the chalkboard after his professor’s lecture or grading papers at his own table. Here, too, they make eye contact and smile or nod at each other in acknowledgement. At the end of the video, he comes out of his classroom, arms loaded with papers, and sees that a student art showcase is going on that night in the art studio. He wanders inside, and sees the girl sitting on the opposite side of the room next to a beautiful painting of the night sky. He walks up to her, and they both smile. They spend the rest of the evening talking and laughing, and leave the studio together.

Distribution

Teaser images and clips will be posted onto the band’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, but the whole video will be released on their YouTube page. Behind-the-scenes footage will be released either also on the band’s YouTube page or from the band’s Vimeo account.

Revenues

Our aim is not to make money off of the music video, but instead create greater awareness and interest in the band’s newest album, Pure Motion, therefore increasing record sales upon its release (July 2016). YouTube ads will be enabled in order to gain some return promptly.

Promotion/Campaign

The promotional strategy for the video will be primarily social media-based, with emphasis on appealing to the band’s Facebook and Instagram followers. Promotional images of the video will be released about a month before the video release date, and a few short clips will be posted in the days leading up to the release.

USP:

Yes/No’s videos are often met with positive reviews, as they incorporate an artistic and DIY element. “Blood Orange” will be a more hands-on take to this philosophy, as a team of non-professional artists (all close friends of the band) will contribute to each component of the video. The music video will feel like a short film, and is intended to be a collaborative piece – it will be filmed on different cameras, and some parts will be animated or incorporated with collage.

Summary

Yes/No has cultivated much of its fan base from its popular online presence and their frequent shows held in Portland and the San Francisco Bay Area. The video for “Blood Orange” will be screened at their album release party in San Francisco in July.
