Dear Mustang Parents and Students,
I would like to share our 4th newsletter of the 2013-2014 school year. We are well into a fantastic spring
semester. The Bonham Staff want to share some of the positive additions to our educational programs this year, as
well as keep you informed about numerous things that make Bonham Middle School an awesome place to learn,
teach, and volunteer.
The results from our 4th 6-weeks grading period were truly amazing! To give you an idea of the effort taking place
on campus, 60% of all grades earned were an “A” and 26% of all grades earned were a “B”! Combined that is 86%
of all grades earned were at least “A’s" or “B’s”! The Bonham faculty played a tremendous role in this. At
Bonham we truly feel it is every adult’s role on the campus to ensure ALL students are successful.
As the testing season approaches, everyone is working diligently to ensure that our students are prepared for the
STAAR tests. It is stressful on everyone for sure, but we feel confident that our students will give their best efforts
with every challenge they face. We hope to instill in all of our students that it is EFFORT + ENDURANCE that
makes a difference. We want to thank you for supporting our endeavors and continually encouraging your child to
do his or her best every single day!
The 8th grade Lady Mustangs won the city tournament in basketball! Our orchestra received a 1 rating in the UIL
performance contest! We are excited for our choir and band as they have been working extremely hard in
preparation for their upcoming contests. In addition, our track teams look promising as well. Thank you for
attending and showing your support for Bonham Middle School. In addition, you probably have noticed the huge
construction project taking place on the west side of our campus. It will be the new Amarillo High Tennis Center featuring 8 tennis courts.
PARENTS: Our parent organizations include the Bonham PTA and the Bonham Music Association. These groups
work hard to support our programs and students, and without a doubt they share a huge part of our success. If you
would like to become a member of one or both of these great organizations, contact Bonham at 326-3103.
As you know, the partnership and communication between our school and community are a vital component to our
success. Thanks to everyone who has already contributed time and effort toward making this a successful year.
Sincerely,
David Vincent
Principal, Bonham Middle School
In January Bonham added a new feature in Skyward family
access. This feature will allow parents to update some of their
student’s information without having to contact the school
office. You will be able to update things like phone numbers,
email addresses and emergency contact information. Some of
this information will automatically be updated while other parts
of it will be routed to the school office for
approval. Hopefully this will be a big time saver for Bonham
parents.
We all have; knows someone who does have, or are connected in some way with
children. “Digital Insight” is a blog created solely for the purpose of keeping parents
informed on keeping their kids safe in this digital world. Not only will it have tips and
hints on the latest equipment being used by today’s digital savvy kids, but how to
supervise the way they use them. This blog helps us all protect those who are most
dear! So please help us get the word out…Digital Insight is a MUST READ for
today’s parents!

Note from the nurse’s office:
Parents of this year’s 6th grade students, to be 7th grade students next school year 2014/15:
If your student is in need of immunizations for the next school year, they have already received a
requirement notification letter attached to their report card. They will be notified with each report card
and again at the end of the school year if their immunizations have not been updated before then.
These requirements are mandated by Texas law and your student can not attend school without them.
Parents are encouraged to make appointments with their physicians early to avoid long lines in August.
The Public Health Dept. and other Texas Vaccine for children providers can no longer immunize
children who are fully, privately insured. This will increase demand in services from private providers,
especially during the back to school rush thus another reason to make appointments early with
physicians. Also, remember to submit a copy of your student’s updated record to the school nurse so
that their school immunization record can be recorded as complete. If their immunizations are not
updated before this school year is out, please bring an updated record to registration 2013/14. Your
student will not be able to receive their class schedule for the new school year without this
documentation.
Hello Choir Families!
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the AEF Raffle Ticket sales – we have been able to raise a great amount of money for the Bonham Music Association, without which our department would not be able to fund many of our events.
We have been working extremely hard to prepare for UIL contest at the end of March and the Greater Southwest Music Festival coming up in May. Please mark your calendars for these upcoming choir events!
May 1st – Greater Southwest Music Festival (6th grade and ShowStoppers)
May 15th – Spring Pops Concert (all choirs)
Snack Pak for kids: NJHS helped pack over 8000 bags at
the warehouse. Bonham filled over 9 barrels with our
food drive! Mrs. Keplinger, Mrs. Law, and Mrs.
Swicegood had the highest collections and got to take
kids to Gattis for a long lunch!!
Our campus is under construction: Currently being built is 8 new outdoor Tennis courts and parking. Amarillo High and Bonham students will be using the courts for instructional purposes. Track and field events will be re-located to another part of the field. Please watch for blowing dust and keep your student away from the site. Completion date is Aug. 1st 2014.
Mustang Library
288 New Books in the Mustang Library!
They are flying off the shelves because Bonham students requested many of the titles.
The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth (Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant) is
currently the most requested series closely followed by The Selection Trilogy by Kiera
Cass (The Selection, The Elite, The One-release date 5/6/14). The Skinjacker Trilogy
and Unwind Trilogy by Neil Shusterman are always off the shelf (Everlost, Everwild,
Everfound/Unwind, UnWholly, UnSouled ). Several boys immediately checked out Lone
Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL
Team 10 by Marcus Luttrell and American Sniper by Chris Kyle. Some funny books are
always popular: Hard Luck (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) by Jeff Kinney, Ribticklers!: Funny
Stories by Michael Rosen, and Tom Anglegerger’s Origami Yoda books.
Ten Nooks (e-readers) are available for check out. A parent permission form must be
signed before a Bonham student can take a Nook home. This form states that the parent
will be financially responsible for loss or damage of the Nook /charger. Bonham is one of
the four schools involved in this pilot program. We are able to download new releases
quickly. Our students have enjoyed reading on the Nooks. So far so good!
