Greetings fellow Elks!

The weather we have been waiting for has finally arrived!

First, a big "Thank You" to everyone who participated with the Memorial Day Parade. The float was quite possibly the most comfortable one imaginable. Even my kids had a good time in their red shirts! A special thanks to Scott Reath for the planning and motivation, Scott Calvert for the decoration, and especially JR and Jeff Julka at Hansen Refrigeration for the donation of time, materials, trailer and vehicle to pull it.

Our biggest project of the year is coming up in a few weeks and boy do we still need some volunteers. We could use more folks for all the positions! Walleye Weekend revenue is how we can afford to fund the benevolent works that we do.

More exciting news...our Activities committee has booked entertainment every Friday in June. If your are in town, stop down, grab a cocktail and a plate of fish and enjoy the show!

Finally, if you happen to see our newly installed Leading Knight, Mary Runde, take a moment to congratulate her on the new position AND HER RETIRE-MENT!!! Mary is not only the Chairman of the Activities Committee, she is the Chair for Walleye Weekend. Way busier in retirement no doubt!! Thanks for all you are doing for our Lodge!

Hope to see you soon!

2015 ELKS WISCONSIN STATE TOURNAMENT

This year’s tournament is being hosted by the Rice lake Lodge #1441 on Monday August 10, 2015. The tournament will be played at the Rolling Oaks Golf Course in Barron, WI. The cost of this event is $65 per golfer, and will be a 4 person scramble, or you can play regular golf if you wish. There will be a shotgun start at 11:00 am. This outing is open to all Elk members, and friends of the Elks. Application forms are available on our Lodge bulletin board, plus it will soon be on-line at the Wisconsin Elks web site: www.wielks.com.

If you have questions, contact:

Marvin Yardley @715.418.1039 or Cindy Yardley @ 715.296.3922

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION Per Member Donations as of May 15, 2015 $0.62 per member

Shortly, our Lodge ENF Committee will be sitting down to plan where we will use the grant funds we will be applying for during this next Lodge year. Thankfully our Lodge has a small group of members willing to take on this task and work with other commu-nity leaders to promote our Lodge in a very positive manner. Ginger Reath, Scott Calvert, Trista Holz, Mary Runde, Lee Ann Lorrigan, Tom Walker, and Scott Reath are just a few of our good Elks stepping up to this challenge on a regular basis. Hopefully, we will again be a recipient of the Impact Grant, which can be up to $10,000, to promote the Project Blake Arts Program at Marian University.

On Thursday, May 21st, we held our Youth Scholarship Banquet here at the Lodge. We gave out approximately $20,000 in scholarships to FDL County high school seniors to help further their education. I wish I would have kept track of the amount of scholarship dollars our Lodge has given to the students since I started helping Norm Behnke with this program. I would venture to say it is several hundred thousand dollars. I look at this scholarship program as a win-win for our Lodge. Not only are we helping out area students with their education, but we have signed up parents as members who want to be a part of an organization like ours, and are showing their thanks by donating to the Elks National Foundation so other students have the chance for scholarships in the future.

However, the one program that is the real winner from the donations that you the members make year after year is Camp Wawbeek, our Respite Camp in Wisconsin Dells. Each year the ENF donates thousands of dollars to this camp so that severely handicapped individuals can spend a week or two experiencing programs and interact-ing with others who have the same restrictive lifestyle they have. If you have not visited the camp, keep June 27, 2015 open, and make a point to visit the camp on Elks Day at Camp Wawbeek. When you hear the stories being told by the leadership of the camp of all the great things they are able to do because of the Wisconsin Elks, it will make you want to double your donation to the ENF fund, and rightly so. Since the Elks partnered with Easter Seals 21 years ago, the Wisconsin Elks have invested over 1.4 million dollars in improving the camp. This year alone, they are spending about $85,000 to improve the dining room and kitchen facilities. The Elks Village is a site to behold. The 40-bedroom facility the Elks built about 10 years ago to house the more severely handicapped campers is the gem of the camp grounds. Please join other Elks from across the state on this date. It starts at 11:00 am..

Your donations to the ENF make these programs possible. Donor cards are available in our Lodge foyer, or you can go online to: www.elks.org. Either way, make a donation today. It is tax deductible.

Don Behnke, PER Lodge #57 ENF Chairman

Message fro mour State President

To Our Elk’s Family:

Mary and I are very honored and humbled to be standing up here as your State President and First-Lady of the Wisconsin Elks Association for this upcoming year. We would like to thank Todd and Leah for their great leadership this past year and we are hoping they will continue to promote Elkdom in the years ahead. I would be remiss, if I didn’t tell you that we have become closer friends.

It’s hard to put into words the feelings that we are going through at this time. I’m anxious, Mary is nervous but we are both excited!! Be it sports, the business world or life in general; you always set goals for yourself. Well, my goal when I became an Elk was to one day become a State President. It has been a great journey these past 21 years to finally be up here in front of you as your State President. Over the years, there have been so many people to THANK that have guided and supported us through this journey. But, the one that I want to single out is my sponsor, Jerry Hintze, from Oshkosh #292. Unfortunately, he is not with us today. Every time we were together at the lodge or state functions he would always say to me “Tony it doesn’t get any better than this”. To this date I always remind myself of that saying whenever I’m around my immediate family or my Elk’s Family!! (It just doesn’t get any better than this!) He was A proud Elk!!

My Motto for this year is “RENEW- GROW-SUCCEED”. I want to get back to what the Elks are all about and find ways to grow our membership. As we all know that membership is the lifeblood of this great organization. We will have more to say at our Lodge visits.

Mary and I are looking forward traveling with Rob and Michelle Radig, our President-Elect, and promoting Elkdom across our State. We thank you for this great Honor,

Tony Voulgaris-State President Mary Voulgaris-First Lady
