The Style In The Symphonic Works” The purpose of the book is to shed new light on Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957). Up to now, the stylistic characterization is an unexplored analytical field although many studies have focused on the questions of form raised by Sibelius’ symphonic works. The corpus is limited to the seven symphonies and seven tone-poems. The biggest part of the survey is based on parametrical study, in which the search for recurrent and relevant features is often achieved by means of statistics. The book is divided into five main parts represented by form, thematic materials and phraseology, harmony, orchestration and a last part entitled « Composition and musical signification ».
