December 14 & 15 2019

Summary

Antiviral Research Society (AVRS) organized a two days International Conference on

“RECENT ADVANCES IN HERBAL DRUG STANDARTIZATION” on December 14 & 15

2019. The conference was inaugurated by Mr. R.Aravindhan, Aravindh Herbal Labs (P) Ltd,

Rajapalayam. Dr. V. Venkatraman, Principal, Raju’s College, Rajapalayam delivered Chief

Guest address and Mr. R. Aravindhan, delivered the Presidential address and Dr. K.Ilango,

Dean, IIISM, SRMIST, Chennai briefed about the society activities. More than 20 renowned

speakers from different disciplines delivered lecture on various aspect of herbal drug n.

standardization in five technical sessions. During inaugural function special awards were given for

various categories like Life Time Achievement award to Dr. S.Subramanian, Madras University;

Outstanding Research Scientist award was given to Dr.G.Kumaresan, Madurai Kamarajar

University; Dr. P.Suganthi, University of Madras received women in Science award,

Dr.S.P.Dhanapal, awarded with Best Teacher and Five Fellowships were given to

Dr. V.Loganathan, Dr.Sandeep B. Patil, Dr. M. Manikannan, Dr. G.Ashok and

Dr.M. Kathikeyan based on the significant contribution in various field of antiviral research.

Technical sessions on Virology, Drug discovery, Herbal drug standardizations and Bioinformatics

and Nanotechnology were focused in this conference. Poster presentations were also organized for

the students and research scholars in the area of drug design and development. A total of 30 posters

were presented and top ten posters were selected for awards. Dr.U.P.Senthil Kumar Orchid

Pharmaceuticals, Chennai and Mr.N. Pari, District Additional Judge, Srivilliputtur were the Chief


guest for valedictory function, delivered valedictory address and gave three best poster awards to

winners during the valedictory function. Dr. P.Suganthi, proposed vote of thanks. More than200

participants from various colleges were actively participated and 50 members from all over India

participated and benefited from this conference.

First day (14.12.2019) started with informative and interactive talks with Keynote address and

three invited award lectures. First Life time achievement award lecture by

Dr. S. Subramanian, Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, University of \Madras, Chennai delivered

talk on “Biochemical Evaluation of Hypoglycemic, Hypolipidemic and Antioxidant properties

of GTF-231, a Polyherbal Preparation in High Fat Diet Fed-Low Dose STZ Induced

Experimental Type 2 Diabetes in Rats” and Outstanding research scientist award lecture by Dr.

G. Kumaresan, Chair person, School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamarajar University,

Madurai delivered invited talk on “Establishment of Drug Target Screening System and

Integrative Genomic Work-Flow to Explore to Molecular Mechanisms and the Targeted

Cancer Therapeutic Features of Traditional Medicine”. Dr. K.Ilango, Dean, IIISM, SRMIST,

Chennai delivered a topic Key note address on “Standardization and Quality Control of

Botanicals” and Dr. N. Mathivanan, Director, CAS, University of Madras-Guindy campus,

Chennai delivered special lecture on “Prospects and Challenges in Selection, Documentation,

Authentication and Utilization of Medicinal Plant Diversity for Human Healthcare” Two

special lecture on stability studies of herbal formulations delivered by

Dr. U. P. Senthilkumar, Vice President, R and D, Orchid Pharma Ltd., Chennai talk on “ICH

Requirements on Establishing the Stability of Drug Substances and Drug Products for Global

Use” and Dr. V. Loganathan, Professor, K. M. College of Pharmacy, Madurai delivered lecture

on “Stability Testing of Herbal Medicines”.


Dr.M.Chandramohan memorial lecture was delivered by Dr. M. Elanchezhian, Director,

Dr. ALM PG IBMS, University of Madras, Taramani campus, Chennai on “Validation of Anti-

HBV Drug Discovery and Development”. Four invited talk by Dr. Geetha Saravanan, Professor,

Swamy Vivekandha College of Pharmacy, Tirushengodu on “Phytochemistry: A Green Way in

Finding a Lead in Drug Discovery”, Dr. Ramya Devi, SBCT, SASTRA University, Thanjavur

on “Development of Topical Nanoemulsion Spray Formulation of Combined Plant Extracts for

Synergistic Wound Healing Activity”, Dr. Sandeep Balvant Patil, Associate Professor, Adarsh

College of Pharmacy, Vita (D)t – Sangli, on “In vitro Screening for Anticancer Drugs” and Dr.

Vedha Hari BN, SASTRA University, Thanjavur on “Herbal Nanoparticles for Topical

Cosmetic Application”.

Second day (15.12.2019) session started with invited lecture by Dr. D. Prabhu, Dr. ALM PG

IBMS, University of Madras- Taramani Campus, Chennai on “Caenorhabditis elegans - An

alternate animal model” and Dr. K. Palanichevam, Professor, KARE, Krishnankiol delivered

invited talk on “Plant Biotechnology as a Tool to Strengthen Herbal Drug Standardization”.

Dr. P. Suganthi, Dept of Microbiology, Dr. ALM PG University of Madras given talk on

“Current Scenario of Antibiotic Resistance”. Dr. V. Shanmugiaah, Department of Microbial

Technology, School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, delivered lecture on

“Potential Antimicrobial and Anticancer Drug Isolated from Thevetia peruviana L”.

Dr. N. Balasubramanian, Department of Immunology, School of Biological Sciences, Madurai

Kamaraj University, Madurai, given talk on “Bacteria Phage Associated Streptococcus

Virulence Factors and Their Inhibitory Activity by Medicinal Plants” and Dr. M. Rajan, School

of Chemistry, Madurai Kamaraj University, given talk on “Concept of Extraction, Isolation and

Characterization of Bioactive Compounds from Traditional Plant Material”.


Dr. Somnath Devidas Bhinge, Rajarambapu College of Pharmacy, given talk on “Quality

Control of Herbal drugs and their Importance”. Dr. K. Subramanian, Department of

Biotechnology, P.S.R Engineering College, Sevalpatti, on “Phytomedicine and Phytotherapy” Dr.

K. Selvakumar, Professor, K.M. College Pharmacy, Madurai. delivered talk on “Rediscovering

Novel Nano Drug Delivery Systems in Ayurveda”.

Special session on nanotechnology: Dr. L. Muthulakshmi, Department of Materials Science,

Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai given talk on “Green synthesis and characterization

studies of silver nanoparticles from Ocimum basilicum L. and their antimicrobial activity”.

Dr .K. Venkatesh, Department of Physics, Syed Ammal Arts and Science College,

Ramanathapuram given lecture on “Biosynthesis of Titanium Oxide Nanoparticles and its

Characterization”.

Poster presentations were also organized by the organising committee on 15.12.2019 where in

participants from different Colleges, Universities and Institutions all over India had participated.

More than 30 posters were presented and ten posters were selected for the best poster awards and

invited to present for shotgun oral presentation on 15.12.2019. Cash award with certificates were

given to the award winners during valedictory function.

Two day events of International Conference on “RECENT ADVANCES IN HERBAL DRUG

STANDARTIZATION” on December 14 & 15, 2019 with lectures from distinguished speakers

were brain storming, inspiring and very informative.
