Student Information System Technician PC approval July 2006

ANTIOCH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM TECHNICIAN BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Supervisor-Data Systems, provide technical support and training for the District Student Information System and related data, applications and equipment; monitor and adjust system to assure proper functioning; troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve system problems and malfunctions; perform a variety of special system projects for the District. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Provide technical support for the District Student Information System and related data, applications and equipment; monitor database performance to assure smooth operations; make necessary alterations and assure proper functioning. Monitor available system disk space; manipulate internal data files to enhance efficiency of applications and integrity of data as needed; move files as necessary to provide for program running, assure database integrity and enhance system performance. Provide technical training and assistance to technology users concerning the Student Information System; respond to inquiries and provide detailed and technical information concerning related standards, requirements, applications, malfunctions, practices, techniques and procedures. Inspect, troubleshoot and diagnose database problems and malfunctions; maintain and repair related systems, hardware and applications; facilitate the computerized collection, management, manipulation and distribution of data used for analysis and reporting. Perform a variety of special system projects for the District; input and extract a variety of data in the Student Information System; create queries, manipulate and merge information, format documents, develop spreadsheets and generate a variety of computerized forms, documents and reports. Import, export and convert data in the District Student Information System; install system applications, upgrades, patches and additions; prepare backup data files in accordance with established procedures. Monitor and update District internet and intranet websites with changes; assist with database development for District web needs as directed. Communicate with personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.

Operate a variety of computers, servers, peripherals and specialized software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to systems, work orders and assigned activities. Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and in-services as assigned; conduct trainings and in-services concerning system operations as directed. OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: District computer systems, databases and applications related to data collection, management, manipulation, reporting and distribution. Computerized data collection, management, manipulation and distribution requirements for analysis and reporting functions. Principles, methods and procedures of operating computers and peripheral equipment. Database structures and system capabilities of the District’s computer systems. Database system utilities and program applications. Manual instructions, sufficient to enable quick and accurate diagnosis of difficulties. Principles and practices of data processing as applied to automation of office procedures. Record retrieval and storage systems. Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Record-keeping techniques. ABILITY TO: Provide technical support for the District Student Information System and related data, applications and equipment. Monitor and adjust system to assure proper functioning. Provide technical training and assistance to technology users concerning the Student Information System and related applications, malfunctions, practices, techniques and procedures. Meet schedules and time lines. Maintain records related to work performed. Use assigned software at a proficient level. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in computer science or related field and two years experience involving the operation and maintenance of database systems. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Seeing to view a computer monitor and read a variety of materials. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
