The Jewish people are often referred to as a scapegoat in WWII.

Diaspora

The dispersion of jews out of their ancestral homeland (the Land of Israel) and their subsequent settlement in other parts of the globe.

“Europe’s Punching Bag”The Jewish people have been blamed throughout history for various misfortunes that befell Europe - up to and including the Black Death (The Plague)

The only concrete reasons for them to be blamed for such events is that they are a diaspora and they are an easily identifiable religious minority in a heavily Christian dominated territory

Violent attacks on Jewish Communities from 1348- 1350 - many were burned alive

They had a higher immunity - they were segregated and had less contact with the general population - this meant less exposure - there are also jewish laws that promoted cleanliness

Pre WWII GermanyThe economic depression in the 1930’s sparked the popularity of the Nazi party and Hitler

They came into power in 1933 and between then and 1938 they ordered anti- jewish boycotts of businesses, jewish book burnings, and had enacted anti- jewish legislation

Many Jews fled Germany at this time in fear of what was to come

Including Albert Einstein, Petra Moser, and countless others

This is still prevalent in today’s society“The Jewish Federation of Edmonton is working to strengthen security in response to recent bomb threats at Jewish community centres and schools across North America.”

“Edmonton city police investigated 128 hate-related occurrences in 2016, down slightly from last year.”

“People are worried about whether to send their kids to

school and attend programs, if they should come, what

type of security there is, and just in general, about bomb

threats and violence,” said Tal Toubiana, the federation’s

chief of security.

“We just want to make sure we’re taking the right security

measures.”

These are a excerpts from an article March 13th of this year (4 days ago) and it is in Edmonton.

Anti - Semitism is still something that the Jewish communities of the world have to deal with.
