The Antarctic continent is located in the South Pole of our Planet. 남극 대륙은 우리 지구 남쪽 극 ( 極 ) 에 위치하고 있다 .

Its geography, climate and biological conditions provide a unique enviroment. 남극의 위치 , 기후 , 생리적 조건들은 특이한 환경을 마련한다 .

Antarctica has the lowest temperatures in our planet reaching 70° Celsius below zero with winds of 300 km. Per hour. 남극은 시간당 300 km 나 부는 바람과 섭씨 영하 70° 에 까지 내려가는 우리 지구상에서 가장 낮은 기온을 가지고 있다 .

Containing 90% of the planet’s ice it’s the major reserve of fresh water on Earth. 지구에 있는 얼음의 90% 를 가지고 있는 남극은 지구상에 있는 민물의 주요 저장소다 .

About 99% of Antarctica is covered with ice at an average thicknes of 2,500 meers, reaching in some places as deep as 4,776 meters.남극은 99% 가 보통 2,500 미터나 두꺼운 얼음으로 덮여있으며 어떤 곳에는 얼음의 깊이가 4,776 미터나 된다 .

If the ice layer would melt all the Earth’s Oceans would rise 70 meters above the actual level. 얼음 지층이 다 녹으면 지구상의 모든 바다가 현재수준에서 70 미터나 더 오를 것이다 .

The Antarctic Continent functions as one of Earth’s “refrigerators” regulating the oceanic currents and the world’s climate.

남극대륙은 지구의 냉장고 역할을 하니 대양의 흐름과 세계의 기온을 조절한다 .

Any significant enviromental impact would alter the global patterns of weather with disastrous consecuences.

어떠한 충격이든 자연환경에 적지않게 미칠때 지구상의 기후 형성에 비참한 재난을 초래하기 쉽다 .

In spite of the severe weather Antarctica has rich animal life amazingly well adapted to the harsh conditions. 혹독한 기후에도 불구하고 남극에는 극악의 조건에 놀랍도록 잘 적응한 동물들이 풍요한 삶을 살고 있다 .

The arrival of the first tourists in the 50’s was a main cause of environmental concern.

50 년대에 처음으로 있었던 관광객들의 방문은 환경에 큰 우려가 되고 있다 .

Strict rules and regulations were createdas to protect the ecology of the environment from the visitors such as creating restricted zones , mantain a safe distance from the wild life, do not feed nor touch the animals, and rigid control of waste disposal. 관광객들로 부터 생리적인 환경을 보호하기 위해서 제한 지역을 정하고 , 야생물과 안전 거리를 유지하며 , 동물을 다치거나 먹이지 못하게 하고 , 쓰레기 처분을 엄격히 통제하는 등의 엄격한 규칙과 단속 법이 정해졌다 .

During the summer months (being the pick of the season in January) there is daylight almost 24 hours a day while in winter the days remain on a prolonging half light or penumbra during most of the 24 hours.

여름에 속하는 달 동안은 (1 월이 여름철의 절정기 인데 ) 일광이 하루에 거의 24 시간 지속되며 겨울철에는 24 시간 거의가 반밖에 안 되는 일광이 연장 되든가 반음영 ( 半陰影 ) 으로 유지한다 .
