Where Was He Born? Ansel Adams was born on February

20, 1902, in San Francisco, California. . He died on April 22, 1984 from a heart attack. He was 82 years old.

He grew up in a house set amid the sand dunes of the Golden Gate.

How Did He Make Money?

When Adams was 12 he taught himself to play the piano and read music.

For the next dozen years the piano was Adams's primary occupation and, by 1920, his intended profession.

But since he became a photographer, his main income was from selling his pictures.

How Did He Learn To Photograph?

He basically taught himself to photograph. It started he went to Yosemite Sierra when he was 14. He would spend a lot of time there hiking and climbing. Eventually his parents gave him a camera, a Kodak No. 1 Box Brownie.

How Long Has He Been Photographing?

That was when he started photographing. He never really stopped. So he was probably photographing from age 14 to age 82 (about 68years). But he produced his first portfolio in 1927.

What’s His Style? Adams’ style is usually of a black and

white landscape. It’s generally an American landscape. His style has never really changed from the time he took his first photograph.
