BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION

NGO Green Home was founded on the 14th February 2000 by graduated students of biology science, as a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organization1. The organization was established as the will of citizens to participate actively in protection and conservation of environment, as well as to take an active role in the civil society development through protection of biodiversity and realization of the sustainable development concept in Montenegro. The goal of the organization is environmental preservation and protection, biodiversity conservation and implementation of sustainable development principles. Green Home is dedicated to the environmental protection and environmental improvements which will strengthen sustainable future and lead towards social and economic improvements of the social communities at national level. In order to achieve this, Green Home is committed to work with different range of stakeholders in order to foster cooperation and joint work for the purpose of achieving sustainable future and strong worldwide recognition of Montenegro as Ecological State! Range of Activities: Our work is divided into four programmes:

Therefore, we maintain partnerships with different stakeholders, being aware of the importance of every single pillar: local communities, authorities, other organizations and individuals at national and international level. posters. • More than 45 teachers of primary schools and kinder gardens were educated

and trained on how to use the guide as part of the regular curricula. • Positive experiences on setting up the practice of waste separation and waste

recycling shared to the beneficiaries by NGO Green Action from Zagreb • Around 120 classes/lessons were held on the recycling and waste separation

topic in the schools • 700 schoolchildren improved their knowledge and understanding of recycling

and waste separation and participated in waste separation activities (organized in the schools) in 2009;

• Integration of the minorities through joint cleaning activities, TV shows participation, humanitarian actions etc.

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT: Promoting sustainable development principles and strengthening the capacities for development of integrated transport strategy and engagement on activities which will lead towards strengthening public awareness and change of behavior of people towards their choices of mobility for a cleaner air in the city. IMPLEMENTED ACTIVITIES:

• Organized training for 20 representatives of the local self-government for the purpose of possible creation of the integrated strategy for sustainable traffic development in Podgorica

• Created educational and promo material used during the activities of public awareness increase

• Four workshops held to present traffic rules and teach pupils how to use bikes and behave in traffic

• Organized the street event “The Bike for Clean Air” within the international Bike Tour (BT "Feel the heat", 7th July – 28th August, 2009) part of the international bike campaign for a healthy environment.

The project was implemented in cooperation with ECAT from Albania and supported by SIDA within the SECTOR programme of REC Budapest.

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT: Supporting the capacity building and activities of national NGOs in preparation and implementation of Natura 2000 programme in Montenegro. IMPLEMENTED ACTIVITIES:

• Organized training on basic terms of the EU institutions and EU legislation related to the environmental protection, importance of Natura 2000 network and its process of establishment, the role of NGOs in preparation and implementation of Natura 2000 etc.

• Created the website www.greenhome.co.me/natura 2000/ which sets up the main info on Natura 2000 and basic fact sheets.

• Created the internet e-mail list [email protected] for information exchange

• Green Home gathered 33 members of environmental NGOs during project implementation.

• Successful submission of the project for supporting network activities for the period of two years (IPA 2008).

• This project achieved several successful results recognized in the project team and wider:

o Dragisnica Forest campaign carried out in collaboration with local community – forest cutting is stopped temporarily and promoted initiative for protection of the forest through creation of a feasibility study for the highest level of protection for the area (improving NP Durmitor borders);

o Successful financing strategy for the period of two years achieved - successful submission of the project for supporting Natura 2000 activities and approval from the European Commission for the next two years;

o Successful application for NGO Environmental Forum membership – established communication channels between local and regional environmental NGOs, EU administration, state authorities and Ministerial level (RENA).

Water program with participation of 20 environmental NGOs from Serbia and Montenegro

• Training for 20 environmental NGOs in Serbia and Montenegro to design, manage and fundraise for environmental projects

• 20 environmental NGOs in Serbia and Montenegro learned the basics of the project cycle management and how to develop projects and presented funding opportunities

• Development of 10 project concepts by NGOs trained for conservation and sustainable natural-resource management

• Sharing positive experiences and lessons learned on creating effective NGO network and its mobilizing

• Organized training on Effective Communication, Campaigning and Media on improving the skill level of participants to develop an effective media strategy and acquire the skills to design a successful campaign or similar events

• Created and distributed three Bulletins to the Green Resource Centre members, environmental NGOs and relevant actors in order to strengthen the network, improve collaboration and inform on activities related to the capacity building work and related issues

• Created and printed educational brochures and posters, made from the best literal and art works from students competition “Small bulbs save the energy”.

• Organized 22 workshops in three schools including: 10 workshops for the 1st grade students and 12 workshops for the 4th grade students.

• Realized membership of Green Home in the Year of Energy Efficiency in Montenegro (Campaign developed by Ministry of Economical Development and GTZ in Montenegro, as a main partner)

• Successful procedure of application for the Campaign EUSEW – Sustainable Energy Week 2009 (EUSEW 2009 http://www.eusew.eu/ ).

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT: Promoting needs on rational usage of energy and fight against climate changes

IMPLEMENTED ACTIVITIES:

• Organized shutting down the lights on the Union Bridge in Podgorica for one hour bringing more than 200 people at the place

• Organized music concert of the local band “Krug”

• Created and distributed leaflets before and at the event with the message on campaign Earth Hour and specially developed part (for Montenegro) on energy savings.

• Documentary 10 minutes film was prepared and broadcasted on all televisions including advertisements for the event

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT:

The aim of „REA“ project is to organize synchronized regional campaign in two years, trough exchange of experience, knowledge and mobilizing all major players including citizens, in order to join strengths and influence decision makers to put environmental issues as political priority.

taking part in decision making processes and encouraging cooperation with the line ministries;

• Technical analysis of possible impacts on the lake arising from construction of dams, promoting natural and cultural resources of the Skadar Lake and ensuring support of as many citizens as possible for preserving waters of the Skadar Lake.;

• Capacity building of a number of environmental group members to improve their understanding of the importance of the integrated approach to water management and to develop necessary skills to act to achieve objectives set up by the environmental group.

• Field visits and meetings with Local self government of Municipality Pluzine and Tourism Organization of Pluzine for the purpose of establishing cooperation and agreement on realization of activities;

• Designing and printing promotional and informative materials for Tourism Organization which was promoted during summer season as a good tool for spreading information among tourists;

• Activities on organizing the green space in cooperation with the local self-government on several green locations in Pluzine;
