LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

On behalf of the AORN Foundation Board of Trustees, I would like to thank you for your generosity in 2019.

The generous support you provided enabled the AORN Foundation to provide over $1.4 million in funding that enabled us to provide support for education and professional development programs. This included, providing 91 academic scholarships, 33 face-to-face educational events across the country and $45,000 to support CNOR and CSSM certifications.

This support can be provided because of your generosity, and that of our corporate partners. Therefore, I want to personally thank each of you who have donated to the AORN Foundation, as well as the corporate partners who all worked together to make 2019 such a successful year.

Sincerely,

Anne Fairchild, MS,BSN,RN,CNOR,CSSM(e)AORN Foundation President

GRANT AND SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS APPRECIATION

To my generous benefactors:

My name is Belisa Barrier and I am the recipient for the $2,000 Scholarship provided by Ethicon and AORN. I have been an Operating Room nurse for 7 years and I am very familiar with Ethicon products as we use many of them in the OR. It is great to see that Ethicon not only have great quality products but also, as a company, cares about education and the future of healthcare. I cannot express my gratitude enough. I am in the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at The University of Texas at Arlington. My goal is to obtain my First Assist certification so I can continue working in the Operating Room but at a greater capacity. I love my job but I want to be of greater help to my patients. By completing my NP degree and my RNFA I’ll be able to harvest vein for CABG surgeries as well as to manage their care in ICU. This career is quite costly, $1,962 per class, plus the First Assist program is about $6000. Even though I work full time at BSW Round Rock and PRN at Seton Williamson, it has required much sacrifice for my family and I.

This generous help you, the donors, have provided goes a long way. Not only do you help us to continue with school, you help our kids, our husbands and wives, our patients and our community. School makes us improve in so many different aspects of our lives that many benefit from it; so when you say “I am helping a nurse” you should say instead “I am helping a community”.

I want you to know, that every penny you donate is utilized in a responsible manner. Donating to nurses’ education is the kindest gesture and the best investment into your communities. We, the nurses, are responsible and have the drive to be better for our families and our patients. Please do not ever wonder if your donation is making a difference because it is and in a big way.

Follow-up letter:

“I am so passionate about the Operating Room that to advance my career I knew surgery would have to be involved somehow. The cardiothoracic surgeon I work with already offered me a job for when I graduate so very soon I’ll be practicing how to harvest vein for CABG procedures, I am so excited!

I have been working in surgery for 7 years and I want to continue until I am ready for retirement...you know... when I am 90 y/o.” (edited for length)
