HOME AWAY FROM HOME ______

For almost 7 years, the Adelaide University Malaysian Students’ Association has supported and accompanied

many Malaysian students in Adelaide through one of their important chapter in Australia.

As a students’ association under the Adelaide University Union, we’ve been a constantly improving ourselves

and work towards our organisation’s mission statement. We aim to represent and unite all Malaysian students

in Adelaide where Malaysian culture can be shared amongst students in campus.

As we approach our first decade of forming this club, we are continuing to transform. The community wants

more from students’ organisation. And AUMSA is responding by organising charity events and arranging

beneficial events such as, our Networking Night which helps our fellow members to develop their social skills

and most importantly the communication skills which everyone in the workforce cherish the most.

It is this attitude that help us to work towards our goal of creating an environment where Malaysian values are

embraced, diversity celebrated and connections fostered between our members and non-members.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Dear fellow members,

It has been a significant year for AUMSA with the association making good progress on its strategy, materially

strengthening its relationship with most of the supporters and delivering quality and exceptional events for

members.

The 2018 has been a really good financial year for AUMSA as we have had supportive sponsors from all kind of

fields as well as the support of the Union from the University of Adelaide. The majority of our funds come from

sponsors followed by membership registration and lastly profitable sales from our events.

The 2017/2018 committee started with $3305.60 from both cash in hand and cash in bank in total and have more

than doubled the beginning balance where we now have an ending balance of $7005.69. This is a significant

increase of 212% of our beginning balance which I am really proud to present to all AUMSA members to hope

for bigger and more exciting events in the future with the significant financial growth in AUMSA this term.

All of our sponsor’s money are used strictly for our events however I do practice to act in light of being prudent

where all financial decisions made are always at the lowest cost to ensure that we do not spend unnecessarily.

The growth of 212% is not reflective of how profitable our events are as we are a non-profit student organisation

but to promote sustainability as well as security for AUMSA in the future.

In return of AUMSA’s financially excellent year, we also have decided to give back to the community by

organising charitable events collaborating with Seeds of Deeds where 100% profit went to Cancer Council SA to

help promote the awareness of cancer within the Adelaide community. The event has successfully raised a

staggering amount of $390.20 which was donated to Cancer Council on the 21st of August 2018 and

acknowledged via recognition of certificate on the 9th of October 2018.

I would like to end my report with some advice for the future term of AUMSA’s members and committees to

always keep in mind that AUMSA is a non-profitable student organisation and sponsorships are granted to ensure

quality of an event is maintained in relation to the quantity of participants proposed to turn up. However, do

remember that for AUMSA to grow as a club one must ensure sustainability of the club is secured for future

prospects. I also would like to emphasize on maintaining good relationships with your partners and sponsors as

they are also the ones that has helped AUMSA in delivering these successful events and making it possible.

I look forward to seeing AUMSA growing progressively in the future as we strive to create a “Home Away from

Home” for Malaysian students in the University of Adelaide.

Kind regards,
