We feed people because no one should go hungry.We feed people because food is plentiful. In this great country, millions

of families struggle to put food on the table each night. They are trying their best, but in these times, with stagnant wages and the increasing cost of food, many find themselves standing in food pantry lines. Most of the food we distribute is destined for a landfill – not because it is bad, but because there is no market for it or it is close to expiration or mislabeled. Food is plentiful; it is the distribution of it that is lacking.

We feed people because food is education. Study upon study upon study directly links classroom behavior, attendance and achievement to adequate nutrition during critical brain development years. How many children have grown up without a chance at a better life because they did not have adequate food for their brains to develop on par with their better fed peers? Food is as necessary to education as any other school supply to ensure each student has the opportunity to learn.

We feed people because food is medicine. As our population ages, we find ourselves facing a slow moving health crisis, growing bigger by the day. We know that an adequate diet, especially for the elderly, gives their bodies the fuel to fight common illnesses that otherwise could land them in the expensive health care system, from hospitalization to nursing home care.Food is the medicine that can help them remain living independently in their own homes, where they belong.

We feed people because food is hope. When you are constantly worried about where the next meal will come from, you cannot focus on anything else, like improving your education to get a better job. Like helping your children with their homework because you are working double shifts just to pay the rent. Like finding affordable, safe housing. You feel hopeless, inadequate, like you’ve done something wrong. Food is the hope you need to take that crisis from your shoulders so you can work to make life better for your family.

We feed people because of your help. We could not do what we do without you – you give us your time as volunteers, you give us your treasure as donors, you give us your talent as you help us form our strategies to continue this uphill battle against hunger. You help us make a difference, one meal at a time.

Our 11 partner soup kitchens and shelters served

315,150 meals

Our 50 partner food pantries provided groceries to

144,332 families, including 224,238 adults,

59,579 seniors and

138,081 children *These statistics represent a duplicate count.

Each time a family or person receives services they are counted.

...Food is PlentifulFoodbanking: Collects, warehouses, transports and distributes contributions of wholesome food to 80+ food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters in Butler, Warren, Miami, Preble and Darke Counties. These agencies provide hot meals or bags of groceries to families in emergency need.

PROVIDED: 6,888,5711 pounds of food

Ohio Association of Foodbanks: Provides food from Ohio vendors and surplus agricultural products from Ohio family farmers.

PROVIDED: 1,217,024 pounds of food

Emergency Food Assistance Program: Is federally funded and provides food for our partner charities.

PROVIDED: 1,347,284 pounds of food

Feeding America:Provides donated food and other grocery items from national companies for our partner charities.

PROVIDED: 543,185 pounds of food from Feeding America and local donors

Retail Pick-Up Program:Rescues perishable, center of the plate foods from retail grocers.

PROVIDED: 2,201,320 pounds of food rescued.

Food Drives: Food collected in barrels, boxes and bags in schools, churches, businesses and even the library, all given by individuals making a difference.

PROVIDED: 122,309 pounds of food collected.

BackPack Program:Provides food to Head Start and elementary students in Butler, Darke, Miami and Warren Counties to eat on the weekends when enough food for them may be scarce at home. These students are identified by their teachers, school nurses, counselors or administrators as exhibiting signs of chronic hunger which affects them physically, socially and academically.

92,092 bags over the course of the school year, containing

458,498 pounds of food

l 49% of teachers responded to the BackPack program evaluation

l 74% saw behavior very much or somewhat improved

l 76% saw performance very much or somewhat improved in the classroom

...Food is MedicineCommodity Supplemental Food Program:Is a federally-funded program that provides a monthly box of nutritious supplemental food for people over the age of 60. The average age of a program participant is 73.2 years old with an average income of $863 monthly. Could you make ends meet?

SNAP Outreach:Our partner agencies host our outreach staff, who provide information about the nutritional benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and offer assistance in completing applications online through the Ohio Benefit Bank.
