At a time, when in Pakistan the term Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)existed merely as a concept, one of country’s corporate giants ShakarganjLimited (Formerly Shakarganj Mills Limited) (SML) came forward to turn this into a reality.Initially an informal School was established by SML for providing basic educationto the wives and daughters of its workers.Over the years, SML services extended to include among its folds poor anddeserving women from the surrounding villages of Jhang. It was at this time thata decision about establishing a separate organisation for extending the nature aswell as scope of its services was taken. Establishment of a non profitorganisation by the name of Shakarganj Foundation (SF) in 2004 was a directconsequence of this decision. The organisation has been registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860since 2004. Since its inception, the Foundation is working for the betterment ofthe downtrodden community. SF is working in two thematic areas i.e. Health careand Education.
