SRI SATHYA SAI VIDYA JYOTI:

The National Youth Initiative to launch Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Jyoti Programme all over the country was outlined by Sri.Gopi Krishna Pitadala, Member TeamSSSNYC to all the District Presidents, Youth Coordinators and State office bearers at a meeting held on 13th March 2016 at Brindavan. There was tremendous enthusiasm for the programme among the District office bearers and after detailed discussions it was decided to immediately identify schools and prepare survey reports. A time frame was arrived at for finalising the schools and inaugurating them. It is expected that over 50 government schools spread all over the State and located in backward, remote areas will benefit from this scheme. It is expected that Sri Sathya Sai Trust (Karnataka) will support the programme financially.

SAI VEDA POSHANA:The objective of this initiative is to adopt a structured approach to Vedam training, learning and chanting in our organization. While we are focusing on youth gents, we wish to open this to gents elders and children too. We want to align with the way Vedam is taught, learnt and chanted in Parthi with special emphasis on the meaning aspect. Going forward we would like to expand the scope of this initiative to include the theme of Indian culture and Spirituality.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY:

With Bhagawan's grace the newly launched

Karnataka State Website has overtaken other State websites in google search ranking to get the top spot among all state websites in India. We have been able to do this with limited number of contributors to the site. Our aim is to get all Samithi's across Karnataka to start contributing. When that happens we can even come to the number 1 spot on google search results.

All of this mean that the site is getting more and more visibility on the internet. We are seeing a steady increase in the inquiries from the website as well. We are getting around 20 contact us form submissions per month currently. The "Find your Sai Center" link on the site is getting the maximum hits which means there may be many new devotees joining Sai centers getting information from the website directly as well. Our state facebook page has 400+ followers already(the count is increasing every day) and around 150 newsletter subscribers on the site.

DHARWAR EDUCATION COMPLEX

In 1968, for the first time, Bhagwan undertook a week long tour of North Karnataka Districts of Dharwar, North Kanara, Bijapur and Belgaum. As recorded by Sri.Kasturi ji, Bhagwan himself named the tour as " Ananda Yatra of Amarapuri ".

Moved by the devotion of people of North Karnataka Districts, Bhagwan decided that a campus for Mahila Education should be established there. A committee headed by Dr.A.S.Adike, former Vice Chancellor of Karnataka

University was formed. Ministry of Railways kindly allotted 10 acres of land through Govt of Karnataka to Sri Sathya Sai Educational Society, formed for this purpose. Bhagwan visited the site of the land allotted subsequently. HE gave darshan to thousands of devotees. It was a proud moment for the people of North Karnataka.

Sri Sathya Sai Educational Society started a College for Women at this site. Bachelor of Home Science and BCA courses were being offered. To develop the land properly into a full fledged educational complex, Sri Sathya Sai Educational Society handed over the entire land of 10 acres and buildings to Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust in 2015. Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust has presently spent about Rs. 7.00 Crores towards construction of School, College and Hostel Buildings. Managing the Educational Activities has been handed over to Sri Sathya Sai Education Trust (Karnataka).

This year, Pre Nursery, LKG, UKG and 1st Standard have been started in the School. Permission has been received for starting Pre University (Commerce) and B.Com courses. It is also proposed to start Fine Arts and Dance Academy for girls.

OM SAI RAM!

Partiraanaya Sadhoonam Vinashaya-ChadushkrtamDharma Samsthapanarthaya Sambhawami yuge! Yuge!

First, I would like to share my spiritual experience with His Holiness Bhagawan Baba Ji in Prashanthi Nilayam at Puttaparthi with all of you!

Since my childhood, I have been very affectionate with my parents. Fortunately, my father was a gread vidwan of Nadasvaram. I had received my Bala Patam (basic education) under his guidance. In spite of this, my mind was searching for something new, a different instrument to adopt in my musical career. In 1964, my neighbour who had got a darshan from Baba at Puttaparthi, came to my home and explained to my parents about the Darshan and their experience. I was so impressed on that day that I forced my parents to visit Puttaparthi immediately.

I remember that it was the last week of June,1965. As you know, there was no proper accommodation there. Also Darshan took place between 6.00 AM and 8.00 AM. We all stayed in the open place outside the Mandir. There was no fear of thieves and everyone kept their luggage outside the Mandir. I was 15 years old at that time and had seen the snake caves all around. I think that was why the place got the name Puttaparthi (putta means caves). We stayed for 8 days hoping to get a personal darshan of His Holiness Bhagwan but couldn't get it. If one is fortunate, I am sure, Bhagwan will call for personal Darshan.

thOn the 8 day, my father was dejected because we had already spent almost all our money on food and misc. thexpenses. On the 9 morning we went for darshan as usual. As usual, Baba didn't call us. He went inside. As a

result, my father was very frustrated and decided to return to our home town. thBut my subconscious mind advised me… you can! You can get it!. On that 9 day morning a volunteer came

from Bhagavan's room and called out 'who is Thaniyappaiya? Who is Thaiyappaiya? Bhagavan called for darshan'. Really it is a miracle incident in my life. We had not enrolled my father's name in any register. How is it possible? How did he know my father's name? As a young boy it all came as a surprise to me. Then I could realise that Baba was a Sarvantharyami, he could know everything. Most happily all my family members entered into Bhagavan's holy room. Bhagavan Swami stood smiling in front of us.

First my parents got blessings from Bhagavan, followed by my sister and then he came to me. His Holiness Bhagavan asked me, “Meekku Eme Kavalu Bangaru? ('what you want my dear?) Really that is my poorva janma bhagya. I had prayed to him to bless for a good guru for my musical career. Immediately Swamiji put his hand on my head and blessed with “You will succeed in your music throughout the world” and he put some vibhuti prasadam on my head and tongue also.

After the joyful darshan with Bhagavan Baba, we returned back to our home town. After a week, I had a chance visit to the Mysore Palace along with my school mates and teachers of my school on an excursion. At that time the Police Band rendered the Carnatic music compositions of His Highness Mummudi Krishnaraja Udayar.

(Even today they render the same music in Brindavan Garden!) I keenly watched the instrumental rendering and one particular instrument caught my attention. I learnt that it was the saxophone. After returning from the excursion, I asked my father to buy a saxophone for my musical practice. When I told him it costed Rs.800/-, he suggested an alternate instrument to learn either on violin, nadaswaram or veena. (In the year Rs.800/-was a huge amount equivalent to Rs.8 lakhs now a days). I refused my father's suggestion and put pressure on mother to convince father and buy it. Finally I got my lovely sax for my routine practice. Everyday I prayed to Bhagavan Baba that my maiden concert should be rendered in front of him.

I put in a lot of effort to learn classical music and learn all the technical nuances quickly. I joined Kalaniketan Music College at Mangalore as a gurukulam student under Vidwan Sri.Gopalakrishna Iyer, who was a genius on vocal as well as playing flute. I got good grounding in classical music from him. Later I learnt under Vidwan Sri.Balakrishna Pillai of Kumbakonam, a well known Nadaswaram player and finally I have learnt a lot from my Athmartha Guru Padma Bhushan Dr.T.V.Gopalakrishnan.

One fine morning, four people travelling in an ambassador car came to our area enquiring about me. I introduced myself and invited them to my house with all courtesies. Immediately one of them said, “Mr.Kadri! You are so lucky, man. Bhagavan Baba has sent us to pick you up for the concert tomorrow at Whitefield!”. I was extremely happy to hear the news and realised that my dream would come true. However, I was a little bit worried as I had already accepted to perform couple of concerts in Pondichery and it was to take place the following day. I clearly remember the day was 21.5.1991.

At this juncture, my guru Padmabhushan Dr.T.V.Gopalakrishnan called and asked me to pick him up from Kollur temple and bring him to my house in Mangalore by car as there was some untoward incident due to political instability. There were no vehicles on the road. Just imagine the situation I was placed in! When I explained to my guru about the invitation from Baba, he asked me who were the accompanists. I explained that I was yet to fix it. He immediately accepted to accompany me on Mridangam. Actually he is my musical guru! These were all Bhagavan's Leela! Shortly thereafter, the organisers from Pondichery and Chennai called to say that due to law and order problems, the concerts have been cancelled and they would contact to fix another date. I felt so happy and immediately went to Whitefield with my Guru TVG.

As I entered the hall, His Holiness Bhagavan Baba looked at me for a fraction of' seconds and I felt it was His Karuna Kadaksham! As I stood before Him, Baba said, 'How long I had to wait to listen to your music Kadri?' and patting my back said, 'Yeh, I have my choice of songs for you to render this evening'. Immediately I felt so nervous, because I am not a Swayambu. I was so confused in my mind what songs Bhagavan has chosen. As usual, I could only pray to Swami to help me to succeed in the evening's concert.

In the evening Bhagavan explained briefly about the Vedanta to the huge gathering of devotees and after Ashirvachanam he called me to perform my concert. One of the devotees came to the dais and gave the list of songs given by Bhagavan. I went through the list and My God Bhagavan Baba! they were all my masterpieces. Bhagavan was always saying When I am here why should you fear? What a blessings I got! These are all my Poorva Janma Bhagya!

In my life I have so many miracles with the blessings of Bhagavan Baba. Still Bhagavan Baba is living with us in our hearts. In fact, I am still following the practice of praying to Bhagavan Baba that all my concerts will go successfully without any hindrance. Yes! His Holiness' blessings I got my Padma Award; 2 Doctorates, one from Bangalore University and another from Mangalore University; Tamilnadu & Karnataka State Awards, Kendriya Sangit Natak Akademi Award, All India Radio Top Grade, lot of prestigious milestones, awards, titles and also Asthana Vidwan at almost all the ancient Temples and Mutts. I would like to share my views once again with the younger generations: All my Baba devotees should keep on rendering your social services according to Bhagavan's Holy Path.

Sai Ram! Sai Ram! Mangalam.

“I was born in 1940 at Anantapur. I was the eledest of the twelve children of my parents – seven sons and five daughters. Life was a continuous struggle in those days and I learnt at an early age to shoulder more responsibilities and support my poor parents.

“After completing my SSLC in Hindupur and undergoing a one year diploma course, I joined as Secretary of a Cooperative Bank. In 1960, I was appointed as Supervisor in the Anantapur Cooperative Agricultural Development Bank. From there on, with sincerity and hard work, I served the Bank for 38 years and retired as Deputy General Manager in 1998.

“My marriage was the turning point in my life. My wife was very religious and was a devotee of Bhagwan. She had a short life; passed away at the age of 36. She gave me strength and showed me what Real Love is. She continued to live in me and guided me in my life. She brought me to Swami and motivated me to take up Seva as Spiritual Sadhana. Everyday, when I switch on my mobile she smiles at me with approval.

“Another motivating factor was the letter I received from Sri.Sai Gangadhar Rao, General Manager of the Bank, at the time of my

retirement. In the concluding para of the letter he wrote, “May the balance of your life be sepnt in Manavaseva!” Those inspiring words made me think, 'Trees are giving shadow and fruits, rivers are giving water, agricultural fields give crop of grain, what should we give?'. I realized that I could give relief and happiness in my own humble way to needy and poor.

“Once the thought firmed up, Bhagwan took over and brought me to the Super Specialty Hospital. Sri.T.S.Venkatraman, who was in-charge of the Sevadal group, was hesitant initially to allot me active duties ( as I had walked in with my walking stick as support!). But he was convinced with my sincerity and capacity to perform regular sevadal duties and sent me to Super Specialty Hospital. That was in 2004. I have not looked back since then and have been serving for 24 hours, seven days a week.

“On the first day, when I entered the Hospital, I was greeted by Lord Hanumanji and he has been supporting me and helping me to keep healthy and active. I get up at 3.30 a.m daily and after bath and pooja to Hanuman am at the Q Complex at 6.00 a.m to receive the patients and guide them. After the duties are over at Q complex by 11.00 a,m, I go around the hospital checking the availability of Sevadals at every duty point. Over the years, I have been given the responsibility of receiving the Sevadals from the Districts and Bangalore City, allot them duty points and take all necessary steps to make their stay at the Sevadal Retiring Block comfortable.

“With the 40 years of banking experience, I also assist the Organisation in maintaining various accounts and submit regular reports on the receipts and payments as well as sevadal deployment.

“My wife inspired in me true love and devotion and Bhagwan has taken it to a higher level of Universal Love and brotherhood. Everyone calls me 'uncle' and treat me with love and respect. At the same time, I am strict and uncompromising when it comes to maintaining discipline and commitment to duty. Sometimes I become unpopular because of this, but I accept criticsm also with the same humility. Bhagwan has given me the strength.

“Over the last 12 years hundreds of Sevadal brothers and sisters have inter acted with me and have come close to me. I was the eldest of twelve children in my family. Thanks to Bhagwan, my family has become still larger with 1200 brothers and sisters!

“I have maintained fairly good health all these years. But I did have some testing moments. In 2005, diagnosed with Arthritis, I was scheduled for knee surgery at Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital. But before surgery, while reviewing my medication, they noticed that I was taking Ecospirin, and asked me to get cardiac clearance. During the check up for the clearance, it was noticed that three of my heart valves were blocked. With Bhagwan's grace, I underwent the heart surgery and subsequently the two knee surgeries.

“I realize that my whole life has been spent in training me for the Seva I was to render here in Swami's hospital and that he only guides our lives. Every time I interact with Sevadal brothers and sisters I tell them to be clean and honest and adhere strictly to the regulations laid down by Bhagwan.

“Every day brings new experiences at the Hospital. The faces of suffering patients who come with great hopes in their hearts and their beaming faces as they return home happily after surgery will always linger with me. Once, a lady from Orissa came with her one and a half year old baby, much beyond the admission hours. She was so poor that she was wearing torn shabby saree. Seeing her plight I took her to the Reception block and requested them to register her. They also agreed and after examination, the child was immediately operated upon. She came to me with folded hands and tears in her eyes to thank me. I am grateful to Bhagwan that he has made me experience such loving, unforgettable moments.

“I do believe that age is no bar to do seva and it is the most simple and most rewarding of all Spiritual Sadhanas”

SWAMY, WHY DO I?

1) Why do I still feel like sharing my problems with others, when I know that only You can solve them permanently.

2) Why do I still seek help from those who are themselves helpless, when I know that only You can help us in the real sense.

3) Why do I still lean forsupport on those who are themselves not firm, when I know that only You can give the real support.

4) Wny do I still look for direction from those, who are themselves wandering, when I know that only You can guide in the right direction.

5) Why do I still have attraction for false physical beauty, when I have seen Your heavenly beauty.

6) Why do I still go to an astrologer to see my future, when i know

that You are charting my destiny.

7) Why do I still crave for love from others, when I am already bathing in Your shower of love.

8) Why do I still expect people to give me the false respect when I know that You bow to the minutest creature.

9) Why do I still not forgive people for their misdeeds to me, when I know that You have condoned all my wrong deeds.

10) Why do I still get pleasure in the gratification of my ego when I know that I can be with You only when I am ego-less.

11) Why do I still try to build short lived relationships, whe You have already established eternally with me.

12) Why do I still not see You in everything, when I know that You dwell in everyone.

13) Why do I still wish for worldly success, when I know that only You can make me happy.

14) Why do I still desire happiness from other objects, when You have granted me everything I asked.

15) Whey do I still try to reach false goals, when I have already reached Yoyr Lotus Feet.

16) Why do I still think that I can become Your devotee by my efforts, when I know that this can happen only with Your Grace.

Swami, why do I still not really surrender to You, when I have no option other than YOU.

Prayer of a Humble Devotee
