Report on the activities of this esteemed Institution for the academic year 2013 – 2014.
This academic year was really an exuberant and a memorable one, abundant with high
spirited activities.
I thank with devotion Almighty Allah for showing this institution The Right Path
and guiding us safely to move on towards new horizons. Year by year our college
reaches newer milestones. May Almighty Allah shower His choicest blessings on this
institution and may He take it to newer heights. May I extend a very cordial welcome to
the President of the College Managing Committee, Alhaj. P.S.A. Pallak Lebbe, the
Secretary, Alhaj. T.E.S. Fathu Rabbani, the Treasurer, Alhaj. H.M. Shaik Abdul Cader
and other members of the managing committee, Alhaj. K.A. Meeran Mohideen,
Alhaj W.S. Syed Abdur Rahman, Alhaj. M.K.M. Mohamed Nazar, and
Er. L.K.M.A. Muhammed Nawab Hussain. With the same cordiality I would like to

We really deem it our immense pleasure and honour to have a brilliant
academician, Dr. P. Annammal, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., as our Chief Guest. She was
formerly Principal of the Rani Anna College, Tirunelveli and Sri Meenakshi Govt. Arts
College for Women (Autonomous), Madurai. Now she has assumed office as the Joint
Director of Collegiate Education for the Tirunelveli Region.

Autonomy Extension
Alhamdulillah our college has got the extension of the Autonomous status for five
more years, from 2012-’13 to 2016 –’17. Having completed the term of Autonomy in 2012,
we went for extension of autonomy through the submission of a detailed report covering
all the activities of our Institution during the period2008 – 2012. The Review Committee
consisted of Prof. Rajbir Singh of the Kurukshetra University, the Chariman; Prof.
Mohamed Saleem Khan, Islamic College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar, Member;
Dr. V.K. Kwatra, Principal Hans Raj College, Delhi, Member, Dr. Sunali Khanna,
Assistant Professor of Dental Science, Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai and Vice
President of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology and Mr. Gulshan
K. Pasrijia, UGC officer and Under Secretary. The Committee visited all the
Departments, met the students, the aided staff, the un-aided staff and the non-teaching
staff to understand their problems and thereby found out the climate of the Institution.
We thank the Almighty for having rewarded us in our endeavour to get the Autonomy
status extended.
IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell)
The IQAC of our College, established in 2006, channelizes all efforts and measures
of the institution towards promoting its holistic academic excellence. Our curriculum is
inclusive and challenging. The curriculum is designed to sensitize students to current
developments taking place worldwide and educate them for the future so that they can
be culturally versatile and are comfortable working, communicating and collaborating
with people all over the world. In this view the IQAC of our College aims at developing

a system for conscious catalytic improvement in the overall performance of the
institution and I’m sure the IQAC is successful in achieving it. This academic year the
IQAC of our college organized a one-day training programme on 03.03.2014.
Prof. S. Shajun Nisha was the resource person. She gave an enlightening demonstration
on ‘How to use Smart Classrooms’. Most of the teachers attended the programme and
got benefitted. The members of the IQAC under the leadership of coordinator
Prof. K. Rabi Ahamed are working round the clock in preparing the Reaccreditation
Report for the third cycle of NAAC visit.
ISO
The ISO of our college conducts internal and external academic audits to ensure
quality in the teaching learning process. Prof. Abdul Kader is the staff in charge. A One
day auditor training programme was conducted by the ISO on 03.02.2014. Mr. Shahul
Hameed, ABC Consultants gave training for 64 staff participants. The participants were
given training on how to conduct academic audits in institutions. Certificates were
issued at the end of the training programme.
Academic Council, Board of studies and Governing Board Meetings
Ever since the college got the Autonomous status, we have been convening
Academic Council, Board of studies and Governing Board Meetings every year.
� The Academic Council of our college met on 07. 10. 2013. The meeting
commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Mr. J.
Ubaiyathulla, Head of the Department of Arabic. Dr. M. Mohamed Sathik, the
Principal and Chairman, welcomed the members present. University Nominee

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Dr. M.A. Haneefa,
Emeritus Scientist, Centre for Aquaculture Research and Extension,

Dr. K. Subramanian, Dean of Arts, Dr. S.H. Mohamed Ameen, Dean of

� The Governing Board met on 22.10.2013. Alhaj T.E.S. Fathu Rabbani, Secretary,
Sadakathullah Appa College Managing Committee, delivered the Welcome
Address. Dr. K. Subramanian, Dean of Arts, presented the Minutes of the
previous Governing Board Meeting held on 25.09.2012 and the Action Taken
Report. Dr. S.H. Mohamed Ameen, Dean of Sciences presented the Minutes of

the Academic Council Meeting held on 07.10.2013. The Governing Board met
for the second time this academic year on 29.03.2014.

Graduation Day
Graduation Day was held on 22.02.2014 at our college. Alhaj. T.E.S. Fathu
Rabbani, Secretary, Sadakathullah Appa College management committee. presided over
the ceremonious occasion and delivered the presidential address. Principal,
Dr. Mohammed Sathik welcomed the gathering. Alhaj. P.S.A. Pallak Lebbe, President,
Sadakathullah Appa College Management Committee, members Alhaj. Wavoo. Syed
Abdur Rahman, Alhaj. Meeran Mohideen and Alhaj. M.K.M. Mohammed Nazer were

present. Dr. Perumal Samy, Vice Chancellor, Noorul Islam University, was the Chief
Guest and gave away degrees to 410 graduates.

Students’ Council
Election to the Students’ Council has regularly been conducted to inculcate
leadership qualities among the students. This year the election for the council was
conducted in two phases. Election for all the classes excepting I year Postgraduate
classes was conducted on 19.07.2013. Election for all the first year Postgraduate classes
was conducted on 26.08.2013.
A total of 61 class representatives (28 Boys and 33 Girls) and four office-bearers
were elected.
The inauguration of the activities of the Students’ Council was held on 03.09.2013.
Dr. Madhava Soma Sundaram, Director, CDC, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University,
Tirunelveli, was the Chief Guest during the council inauguration.

Student Self Help Scheme
Last year a new scheme namely Students Self Help Scheme (SSHS) was
introduced. This scheme is appreciated by many as it eases the pressure of economically
under privileged students. Each student has to pay a sum of 10 rupees per month
voluntarily under this scheme to help the poor and needy students. The amount

collected under this scheme this year in the Aided section is Rs. 33,580/- and there are 24
beneficiaries. The amount collected under this scheme this year in the Unaided section is
Rs. 25,000/- and there are 17 beneficiaries. Thanks to Prof. K. Rabi Ahamed for
coordinating the scheme.
Earn While You Learn scheme
Considering the poor economic status of some of our students and with the view
to inculcating in them the working culture, we have launched the Earn While You Learn
Scheme. Fourteen of our students have been selected this year under this scheme. They
work in the College office, in the Management Committee Office, in the Library and in
the Book Depot. The remuneration given to them is Rs. 50/- per day.

the College Endowment Scholarship.
Deeniyath
Our college is very much concerned with inculcating the spiritual values in
students. In accordance with this, Deeniyath classes are conducted for Muslim students.

Deeniyath Classes where information from the Quran and the tradition is taught to
Muslim students are held every Wednesday both for the aided and unaided sections.
Common and individual classes are held alternatively. Speakers from far and near are
invited to lecture. Committees have been formed to ensure the regular conduct of these
classes. Dr. Y. Sayed Mohammed is the convener for the aided section. He is ably
assisted by Mr. J. Ubaiyathulla. Mr. K.F. Jaleel Ahamed is the Convener for the unaided
section. The Deeniyath classes are conducted separately for boys and girls. Learned
scholars in religion address our students. Eleven special meetings were conducted this
year.
Moral Instruction
Our Institution gives equal importance to imparting moral education to students
who are the pillars of future India. Moral Instruction classes for Non-Muslim boys and
girls are conducted in 1 2 b a t c h e s e v e r y W e d n e s d a y w i t h t h e h e l p o f 2 5
t e a c h e r s . D r . K . S u b r a m a n i a n is the Convener. He is ably assisted by the Co-
ordinators M r . J a y a K u m a r , Mr. Ayubkhan and Dr. Kanna Muthiah.
Ifthar Get-together
Our College holds an annual Ifthar Get-together to promote communal harmony
and to inform our fr iends in society what the true spir it of fast ing is . The
Ifthar Get-together for this year was conducted on 30.07.2013 at Masjidus Sadakath
(College mosque). Thiru. A. Subramaniam B.E., Superintending Engineer, TNEB,
Tirunelveli was the Chief Guest. Rev. Dr. Gilburt Camillus, Principal, St.Xavier’s College,
Palayamkottai, Thiru. P. Shanmugaraj, Ettezhuthu Perumal Thirukkovil and Moulavi. A.
Abdur Rahman Shilbi Misbahi, Principal, Dharus Salam Arabic College, Mekkarai gave
felicitations. The programme was sponsored by Buhari Hotels, Tirunelveli.
Hostels
The Wavoo Shahul Hameed Hostel for boys accommodates 167 students. Prof. S.
Mohamed Sathak serves as the Deputy Warden and he is ably assisted by residential sub
wardens Mr. Abdul Azeez, Mr. M.N. Abusali Sheik, Mr. J. Ubaithulla and Mr. Shakul
Hameed. The Hostel Students’ Association was inaugurated on 17.09.2013. Mr. K. Peer
Mohideen, Inspector of Police, Police Control Room, Tirunelveli City, was the Chief
Guest. Dr . Abdul Azeez, M.B.B.S. visits the hostel every Monday. Emergency lights
have been provided to all the rooms in the hostel. Four rooms were constructed newly in
the third floor in addition to already available 56 rooms. Pay and use phone card system
has been introduced benefit the inmates of the boys’ hostel. There is an uninterrupted
supply of RO water in the hostel.

A new, fully furnished ladies hostel with three floors has been
constructed on the college premises to accommodate girl students and to
meet with the growing demand for space. The UGC has sanctioned a sum
of Rs.56,99,800/- and the college has contributed a sum of Rs.79,51,371 in
constructing the hostel. The total expenditure in constructing the hostel
Rs.1,36,51,371/-.
The Girls Hostels accommodate 251 students. They are well managed by a team
headed by Deputy Warden, Prof. A. Rashetha Begam. Ms. U.S.Bushra and K.M.T.
Fathima Fasmine are the sub-wardens. Ms. Rashetha Begam and F. Siru Malar Julita
Dalmaida are the residential sub-wardens. In addition to that, there are four care takers
working in the hostel. The hostel is looked after by a round the clock watchman. Our
Hostel Students’ Association was inaugurated on 18.09.2013. Dr. Neela
Thatchayani pays a visit every Tuesday. A newly established Gymnasium
facilitates physical fitness for the inmates of the girls’ hostel.
RO water facilities function in full swing in both the hostels, Boys’
canteen and Girls’ canteen to quench the thirst of the students, that too
with care and safety.
Tiki Huts have been built on the college premises to provide shade
for the girls. Our college Management is magnanimous enough to sanction
Rs.1,30,000/- (one lakh thirty thousand) rupees for the purpose. A new
restroom for girls has also been built . We express our heartfelt gratitude to
our college management for fostering infrastructural developments on the
college campus.
Seven smart class rooms have been made use of by the teachers with
the view to taking the Teaching Learning Process to the next level and
making it an enjoyable one. The Orientation Programme conducted by the
IQAC of our college on “How to use Smart Boards” remains very useful for
the teachers.
The College congratulates Mr. Shahul Hameed, Assistant Professor of Business
Administration, on clearing JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and Mr. S. Khaleel
Ahamed, Assistant Professor of English, on having cleared the National Level
Eligibility Test (NET). The College also congratulates Dr. Mohamed Haneef,
Department of English, on having completed Ph.D. He was awarded Ph.D. Degree on
04.04.2014.
CCTV Cameras at all junctions assist the Campus Monitoring Committee to
monitor the happenings on the campus. The Public Address System which was installed

last year has made it easy to communicate with the staff and students easily and quickly.
It has successfully replaced the Circular system.
Library
We are proud to say that our library is fully automated. We have issued identity
cards to the students with bar-codes. The e-gate facility enables to monitor the entry,
exit, book issue and book return of the students. A UGC sponsored one-day National
level workshop on “Access to E-Resources through NLIST and other sources” was
conducted at our college by the Department of Library and Information Sciences on
10.1.2014. Research scholars and Post Graduate students from various parts of the
country attended the workshop. A special lecture on “Open Access to Scholarly
Resources” was delivered by Dr. S. Srinivasa Ragavan, Professor and Head, Department
of Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University, Trichy.
Dr. N. Radakrishnan, Assosiate Professor, Periyar University, Salem delivered a lecture
on “Massive online open content and Institutional Responsibilities”. Dr. A. Thirumagal,
University Librarian, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli delivered a
lecture on the topic “Access to E-Resources through N-LIST ( Nationl Library and
Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content)”. Dr. K.G. Sudhir, Librarian,
University of Kerala, School of Distance Education also delivered a lecture on “E-
Journals and Consortia Initiatives for Academic Libraries”. Participants were taught
about E-Journals, Consortia, N-LIST, Institutional Responsibilities, E-Resources,
receiving open sources through Internet and about Open Content. We have purchased
books worth Rs.1,75,000 under the UGC Autonomous Account. We also have purchased
books worth Rs. 3,77,500 under the UGC Account. The total amount sanctioned for book
purchase this year is RS.5,52,500. We subscribe to 7 daily newspapers, 61 magazines and
19 journals.

Department Activities
The Department of Arabic conducted a Guest Lecture on 10.03.14 with S.H.
Saifudeen Jamali as the resource person. The Department also organized a quiz
programme on 08.04.14. Dr. Jahir Hussain, Asst. Professor of Arabic, University of
Madras, Chepauk was the Chief Guest. Students of the B.A., Islamic Studies, a new star
in the Sadak Horizon, have successfully completed the first year of their graduation.

The Association activities of the Department of Tamil were inaugurated on
13.08.2013 with the “Seethakathi Tamil Peravai” Inaugural Lecture given by
R. Narumpoo Nathan, a renowned Tamil Short story writer. The Department also
conducted “Sathavathani Seihu Thambi Pavalar Endowment Lecture” on 04.02.2014. Dr.
K.Shahul Hameed, Head of the Tamil Department, Wakf Board College, Madurai spoke
on ‘Islamia Puthinangal Kattum Vazhviyal Neri’. The Department organized a Guest
Lecture on 21.02.2014 with the title ‘Emerging Opportunities in the field of Mass
Communication’. Ms. J. Deepa, Media person, Chennai was the resource person. The
Department also organized Wavoo Endowment Guest lecture on 17.12.2013. Prof.
R.Mohamed Rafiq, Department of Tamil, Haji Karutha Rowther College,
Utthamapalayam, enlightened the audience with his speech on ‘Sudarvirikum
Chandiran’. The Department successfully conducted Seethakathi Tamil Peravai ‘Pongal
Debate’ on 07.01.2014. ‘What is the barrier for success - Superstition or Idleness? was
the title. The Department conducts Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses
in Tamil Journalism.
The English Literary Association was inaugurated on 21 .08 .2013.
Mr. B.Beneson Thilagar Christados, St.John’s College was the Chief Guest and spoke
on ‘Literature, Language and Life’. Dr. B. Manivannan, Department of English, VOC
College, Tuticorin was the Chief Guest for the first Guest Lecture which was conducted
on 11.09.13 and he spoke on ‘Cognitive Poetics’. The Department organized a state level
seminar with the title ‘Travel writing through the ages’ on 12.02.14. Dr. Babitha Justine,
Reader, Indian Institute of Space Technology, Trivandrum and Dr. K. Soma Basu, Senior
Assistant Editor, The Hindu Madurai, were the Resource persons. The valediction for
the The English Literary Association was held on 19.03.2014. Dr. Abdul Kader, Former
Professor of English, Taibah University, Madina delivered the valedictory Address. He
enlightened the gathering with his speech “To Perform Par Excellence”. The Department
organized the second Guest Lecture on 26.03.2014 with Dr. Noel Joseph Raj, Former
Chairman, School of Languages, Bharathidasan University, Trichy as the Chief Guest. He
enlightened the gathering with his speech entitled ‘Perspectives on Career Prospects for
English Literature Students’. The Department’s students brought laurels to the
institution by winning the 1st prize in skit and group dance events during Enthusia-14
held on 30.01.2014 and 31.01.2014 at Parasakthi College, Courtallam. We congratulate the
team that comprises N. Sadham Mohideen and A. Mohamed Kurzith Khan, of II B.A
English. The UGC sponsored Remedial Programme in English is offered for first year
students. Prof. S. Mohamed Haneef is the coordinator. The classes are conducted on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Department of Mathematics inaugurated its association activities on
01.08.2013. Dr. Kala, Associate Professor of Mathematics, MS University, Tirunelveli
spoke on the topic ‘Achievements and some challenges in Mathematics’. The
Department organized a guest lecture on 26.08.2013. Dr. Selvakumar, Assistant Professor
of Maths, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was the resource person and he spoke
on ‘Basics in group theory’. The Department organized another guest lecture on
18.02.2014 with Dr.C.Eugene Franco, St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai as the Chief
Guest. He threw light on the topic ‘Personality development’.
The Department of Physics inaugurated its association activities on 10.09.13 with
a special Lecture given by Dr.Manimaran, Department of Geology, VOC College
Tuticorin. He spoke on the topic ‘Ground water- Geophysical Exploration.’ Twelve
students from the Department went on an Educational tour to Priyadharshini
Planetarium and Science Gallery, Trivandrum.
The Department of Chemistry inaugurated its association activities on
27.08.2013. Dr.Mythili , Head of the Chemistry Department, Rani Anna College
inaugurated the proceedings with her speech ‘Career in Chemistry’. The Department
organized a guest lecture on 13.09.2013 with Dr. Baskar, Associate Professor of
Chemistry, Rani Anna College as the Chief Guest and he spoke on ‘Spectroscopy- An
Introduction’. The Department also conducted a state level seminar on 29.10.2013 with
the title ‘Recent trends in Chemistry’. Dr. S.Gopala Krishnan, Noorul Islam University
was the resource person.
The Department of Molecular Modelling and Drug Designing organized a
guest lecture on 12.09.2013. Dr.Vedhi, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, VOC College
was the Chief Guest and he charmed the gathering with his speech on ‘Analysis of
Drugs’.
The Department of Zoology inaugurated its association activities on 19.08.2013
with a Special Lecture entitled ‘Bats as Bio-indictors of Healthy Environment’ by
Dr. S. Sudhakar of St. John’s College. The Department organized its first Guest lecture on
11.09.2013. Dr. K. Marimthu, AIMST University, Malaysia was the resource person and
he spoke on ‘Prospects of Aquaculture’. The Department organized its second guest
lecture on 07.02.2014 with Mr.A.Mohamed Ansar, Assistant Professor, Antarctica
College of Pharmacy, Tirunelveli as Chief Guest. He spoke on ‘Medicinal plants in
Pharmacy’. The Department also organized a National level seminar on ‘Emerging
trends in Aquaculture’ on 20.02.2014. Dr. A .P. Lipton, CMFRAI, Vizhinjam, Kerala was
the resource person. Thirty Seven Students from the Department went on an Educational

tour to Nannagaram sericulture farm. The Department offers Certificate, Diploma and
Advanced Diploma Courses in Sericulture.
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized a special lecture entitled
‘Stigma : A major Barrier for suicide prevention’ on 10.09.13. Dr. M.B Abdul Rahman
was the resource person. He threw light on various issues that force people to commit
suicide and suggested various preventive measures.
The Department of Computer Science inaugurated its association activities with
Guest lecture entitled ‘Personality Development’ by Dr. John Kennedy, St.John’s College
on 21.08..2013. The Department also conducted a Guest Lecture on DOT –NET
Programming by Mr. Mohamed Adam, Soft Tech. Solutions, on 23.10.2013. The
Department also organized a state level seminar on 19.02.2014 with the title “Recent
Trends in Computer Science”. Delegates from in and around Tamilnadu participated in
the seminar.
The Research Department of Commerce organized the inaugural function of its
Association on 14.08.2013. Mr.S Dawood Ali, Jamal Institute of Management, Trichy
enlightened the gathering with his speech ‘Islamic Banking’ during the occasion. The
Department organized its first guest lecture on 19.09.2013. Mr. R. Narumpunathan State
Bank of India was the resource person and he spoke on ‘New Technology in Banking
Industry.’ The Department organized the second guest lecture on 30.01.2014. Mr. N. Hari
Rama Chandran, Tally Accounting Software Consultant, was the resource person and he
spoke on ‘Current state of Accounting Software with special Reference to Tally.’ The
Department offers Certificate and Diploma Courses in Computerized Accounting.
The Department of History inaugurated its association activities on 22.07.2013,
Ms.Malarvathi, Yuva Sahithya Academy inaugurated the proceedings with her speech
on ‘Subaltern Studies’. Mr. Mohamed Ameen, Health Educator, Tiruneveli Medical
College, Spoke on ‘Achievements of Caliph AbuBakr (Rali) ‘ on 20.08.2013. The
Department organized another guest lecture on 25.02.2014 with the title ‘Equality in
Islam’. Moulavi Soukath Usman, Imam, Islamic Cultural Mosque was the resource
person. The Department also organized a state level seminar on 29.10.2013 entitled
‘Research Methodology and Thesis Writing.’ Twenty three students of the Department
went on an educational tour to Krishnapuram Temple on 11.09.2013. The activities of the
History Association came to a close on 23.04.14 with the valedictory session.
Dr. Narayanan, Controller of Examinations of our college gave an enlightening lecture
on ‘Motivation: A key factor for Success’ during the valedictory session.
The Department of Economics conducted a UGC Sponsored state level seminar
on ‘Recent Economic issues in India’ on 07.03.2014. District Collector of Tirunelveli,

Dr. Karunagaran was the Chief Guest and graced the occasion with his speech entitled
‘Impact of Agriculture in India’. The Department also published the papers of many
scholars, faculty and students from various colleges.
The Physical Education Department conducted the 43rd Annual Sports Meet in
our College on 06.03.2014. Thiru. P. Frank Paul Jeyaselvan, B.B.A., N.I.S., graced the
occasion as the Chief Guest. Our college management committee member, Alhaj W.S.
Syed Abdul Rahman gave away the prizes to the winners of various events. As in the
colourful and the fruitful years gone by, this year the Physical Education Department
students brought laurels to the institution. D. Immanuel Selvakumar of II M.A History
represented Tamil Nadu Volley Ball team in the Junior National Volleyball
Championship at Terodom, Utharakand. The Tamil Nadu Volley Ball team were the
winners in the competition.

A. Mohamed Ibrahim of II M.A. English participated in the 18th National Youth
Festival 2014 held at Ludhiana, Punjab from 12.10.14 to 16.01.14. N. Mohamed Ibrahim
and A. Khaja Ibrahim of I B.A. History were selected for TamilNadu Kho-Kho Team and
participated in the National Youth Festival held at Mysore.
C. Jansi of III B.Sc Microbiology got the 4th place in the M.S.University Chess
competition held at Scot Christian College on 04.10.13 and 05.10.13. K. Amaran of I B.A
History got the second place in pole-vaulting in the M.S. University Inter-Collegiate
athletic Meet. Our college Tennis Team got the fourth place in the M.S. University Inter-
Collegiate Tennis Tournament held at V.O.C College, Tuticorin from 17.02.2014 to
18.02.2014. Our College volley ball team were the runners-up in the M.S. University
volley ball tournament held at Adithanar College of Physical Education, Trichendur
from 16.12.2013 to 18.12.2013.
The PG Department of English (SF) inaugurated its Association activities with
the special lecture by Dr. E. Diwakar Abraham on 26.09.2013. He spoke on the title
‘Literature, edifice of language’. The Department organized the first Guest Lecture on

Department organized the second Guest Lecture on 04.02.2014. Dr. A. Nihamathullah
was the Resource person. He enlightened the audience with his speech ‘Dubbing and
Subtitling’.
The Department of Mathematics (SF) conducted a guest lecture on 23.12.2013.
Dr. A. Syed Mohamed, Sadakathullah Appa College gave a motivating talk on “How to
prepare for CSIR/UGC NET”. The Department organized another Guest Lecture on
25.02.2014. Dr. M. Velrajan was the Resource Person and he spoke on ‘Fundamentals of
Algebra’.
The Department of Microbiology inaugurated its association activities on
11.09.2013. Dr. P. Ashok Kumar, Sokoto State University, Nigeria was the Chief Guest
and enthralled the audience with his speech on ‘Recent Developments in Microbiology’.
The Department organized its first Guest Lecture on 21.01.2014. Dr. A. Peer Mohideen,
King Abdul Aziz University, Saudi Arabia was the resource person and he spoke on
‘Insect Innate Immunity’. The Department organized the second Guest Lecture with Dr.
Jeyahar Bharathi as the Chief Guest. He enlightened the audience with his speech
entitled ‘Diagnosis of Tuberculosis’.
The Department of Computer Science (SF) inaugurated its association activities
with a special lecture by S.M. Ansari on 16.08.2013. The title of the lecture was
‘Empowering students with job oriented skills’. The Department also conducted a Guest
Lecture with the title ‘Software Awareness Programme’. A National seminar on ‘Image
Processing’ was organized by the Department on 08.01.2014. Dr. A. Suruliandi, Dr .S.P.
Victor, Dr.N. Mohamed Noorul Mubarak and Dr. Arumugaperumal were the resource
persons. The Department also conducted a National Level Workshop on ‘Ethical
Hacking’ on 22.03.14 with the collaboration of IIT Delhi. Chaitanya Krishna, Security
Researcher, NewDelhi was the resource person and he suggested the preventive
measures for hacking online. 103 delegates attended the workshop. Students of the
Department brought laurels by winning the 1st prize in the Turn Coat Event held at The
American College, Madurai on 30.01.14. They also won the 3rd prize in the Quiz
competition held at Sri Parasakthi College, Courtallam on 13.03.14. P. Abdur Rahman Ali
of II B.Sc Computer Science won the 1st prize in the Spot Event held at Noorul Islam
University on 19.02.2014. Mohamed Mythin and R. Rajamanickam of III B.Sc. IT won the
1st prize in AD-ZAP in EXOUSIA-13 held at The Indian Engineering College on 26.09.13.
He also won the 3rd prize in MAZE SKETCH in ZESTA-13 held on 09.01.14 at S.S.
Duraisamy Nadar Mariammal College.

The Department of Commerce (SF) inaugurated its association activities on
22.08.2013 with the special lecture ‘Career in Commerce’ by Mr. G. Natarajan. The
Department also organized a guest lecture on 03.03.14 entitled ‘Job Opportunities for
Commerce Graduates in the current scenario’. Mr. Christu Raja, DRNA Tirunelveli was
the resource person. Thirty two students from the Department went on an educational
tour to Bangalore and Mysore from 09.01.2014 to 15.01.2014. The Department offers
Certificate course in ‘Automated Accounting’.
The Department of Business Administration inaugurated its association
activities on 12.09.2013. Dr. Eugine Franco gave a special lecture on the occasion with the
title ‘Executive Excellence’. The Department also organized a Guest Lecture on
17.12.2013. Dr. S. Narayanarajan spoke on ‘Interview Techniques’. Business
Administration students have the reputation of being invincible in the competitions held
in and around the district. They have performed in a scintillating way this year also.
They have won the overall championship in the XCOS competition held at St. Xavier’s
College, Palayamkotai on 04.02.14. They are the winners of the COMMERCE
CARNIVAL held at the same venue on 08.01.14. They are the runners up in the MEXPO-
14 held at the same venue on 30.01.14. They were the winners in ENVISAGE-14 held at
Einstein’s College of Engineering on 12.03.14. The team was the runners-up in the
ORIFLAME-14 on 04.03.14. Special mention must be made of Rifath Babuji of III B.B.A.
and his team for their commitment in bringing laurels to the college. We congratulate
them on their outstanding achievements.
The Students Council of our college deserves a special appreciation for their
venture in releasing a collection of poems entitled ‘Aaram Viral’. The book was released
by Dr. Chinnathambi, Principal, MDT Hindu College amidst huge applause during the
Students Council Valediction on 05.04.14
NSS (National Service Scheme)
The National Service Scheme of our college has three units for boys. Dr.
A.S.Sheik Sinda(unit 12), Mr. M. Sheik Muhideen Badhusha(unit 11), and Mr. M. Sheik
Mansoor (unit 13) are the programme officers. Three units for girls function with Dr.
Kanna Muthiah(unit152), Mrs. S. Firthous Fathima(unit 14) and Mrs. M.P.Syed Ali
Nishaya(unit 151) as programme officers.

06.03.14 in which the volunteers participated enthusiastically.

� Valediction Programme of the camp was conducted on 07.03.14.
Dr. A.Nihamathullah and Dr. Asaraf Ali graced the occasion with their
valuable presence.
� Final Day Evaluation of the 7 Day Special Camp for Girls was conducted on
08.03.14.
� The year 2013 – 14 is indeed a remarkable year for the NSS units of the college.
The college programme officers did a great job in organizing sizeable number
of social activities and awareness programmes on and off the college premises.
The volunteers too were very active, vibrant and dedicated in their services. We

NCC (National Cadet Corps)
The College NCC Unit has the authorized strength of one officer and 104 cadets of
which 66 are boys and 38 are girls. Lieutenant K. Syed Ali Bhadhusha, Assistant Prof. of
English, is the commissioned officer. He participated in a 90-day pre-
commission training at the NCC Officers Training Academy, Nagpur. Cadet Under
Officer Mejila Mary took part in the Combined Annual Training Camp held from
08.06.2013 to 17.06.2013 at Rani Anna Government College for Women, Tirunelveli. She

received the Best Pilot Award at the closing ceremony. Senior Under Officer Sathish @
Samidurai, Cdt.. Meshack Osborn, Cdt. Ajbath Ali, Cdt. Kader Mohideen, and Cadet
Under Officer Mejila Mary participated in the Republic Day Selection Camp held from
29.07.2013 to 07.08.2013 at S T. Hindu College, Nagercoil.
A combined annual training camp, on behalf of the 5 (TN) BN NCC, Tirunelveli,
was conducted in our College from 06.06.2013 to 15.06.2013. A total of 375 cadets from 26
educational institutions participated in the camp. SUO Sathish @ Samidurai and Cdt..
Meshack Osborn, Cdt. Mohamed Kurzith Khan, Cdt.. Manoj Barathy, Cdt.. Enamuthu,
Cdt.. Malaiarasan, and Cdt.. Sabari Anand of our College participated in the Camp. They
were given training in Basic Military Drills, Leadership Qualities and Personal Hygiene.
Among these cadets SUO Cdt Sathish @ Samidurai and Cdt.. Meshack Osborn of II B.A.
English were provisionally selected to participate in the Republic Day Parade. Senior
Under Officer Sathish @ Samidurai was honoured with the Best Camper Award at the
Valedictory Ceremony.
Five NCC cadets from our college and Associate NCC Officer, Lieutenant K. Syed
Ali Bhadhusha participated in the Group RDC training camp-I from 15.08.2013 to
24.08.2013 at PSN Polytechnic College, Melathidiyoor, Tirunelveli.
Lieutenant K. Syed Ali Bhadhusha and 26 Senior Division and Senior Wing
Cadets participated in a Lecture Programme on World Sucide Prevention Day organised
by 5 (TN) BN NCC, Tirunelveli at Christhu Raja Higher Secondary School,
Palayamkottai on 10.09.2013.
Twenty seven SD Cadets of our College donated their blood at the Blood
Donation Camp, organized by the 5 (TN) BN NCC, Tirunelveli on 22.09.2013 at St. John’s
College, Palayamkottai.
Four SD Cadets and seven SW Cadets were part of the RDC Cadre Camp-I held
from 07.09.2013 to 16.09.2013 at National Engineering College, Kovilpatti.
Five SW Cadets Cdt. Ilavarasi, Cdt. Kaveri, Cdt. Mariammal, Cdt. Muthulakshmi
and Cdt. Sundari of our College represented the Tamil Nadu, Pondichery and Andaman
and Nicobar Islands’ Directorate Sports Team which participated in the NCC National
Games-2013, held in New Delhi from 15.10.2013 to 28.10.2013 and won the 4th place.
They were honoured with a cash reward of Rs.1500 each by the Governtment of India
and the Government of Tamilnadu.
SUO Sathish @ Samidurai participated in the Republic Day Parade and was the
left marker of the Tamilnadu, Pondicherry and Andaman Nicobar Islands’ NCC
Directorate’s Contingent. He was one among the fifty cadets from TNP & AN

Directorate which participated in the Prime Minister’s Rally and bagged a cash reward
of Rs. 4,000 from the Government of Tamilnadu and the Government of India
SOP (Sadakath Outreach Programme)
Sadakath Outreach Programme, an extension activity of our College, has been in
progress since 2009. It adopted the Meeyan Palli and Barkitmanagram villages for this
academic year 2013-2014. The volunteers conducted a survey on population,
employment level, standard of living, self-employment, the family system (joint and
nuclear family) and children’s education on 22.01.2014 in the adopted villages. The
volunteers of SOP visited Udhavum Ullangal, an orphanage on 21.02.2014 and provided
afternoon meals to the orphans. Nearly 46 orphan students benefitted and our students
conducted cultural programmes for them.
Career Guidance and Placement Cell
The Career Guidance and Placement Cell has been very active and vibrant this
academic year. It has organized vivaciously a series of porgrammes and off-campus

A five-day workshop on Entrepreneur Development for the faculty members,
jointly organized by the Entrepreneur and Incubation cell and career guidance and
placement cell of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was held at our college from

16.12.13 to 20.12.13. The executive members of the Career Guidance and Placement Cell
of our college took care of the proceedings. Two to four technical sessions were
conducted each day with a total of sixteen sessions for five days.
Clarion and Nihaarika Skill Developers (Recruiter for Kompsos) jointly organized
an off-campus recruitment drive in our college for the posts of Analyst and Designer on
29.09.13. Companies like Kompsos, Clarion, Blender, CTSC, TSC, Java, Red hat and
Linux participated in the drive to get suitable and competent employees for their
concerns. The 266 participants were B.Com, B.Com (CA), B.C.A , B.Sc (CS) , B.Sc (IT) ,
B.E. and B.Tech graduates from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts who
completed their degrees in the year 2013. The registration was done free of cost. The
salary for the selected candidates is around Rs.1.75 lakh per annum. 90 candidates were
selected for the second round.
The Placement Cell of our college and Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) a
Multi National company organized an off campus drive as a joint venture on April
03.04.14 and 04.04.14. All the final year UG students those who complete their degree in
the academic year 2013-2014 attended the interview. Students from various colleges and
universities of the state participated and benefitted.
Anti-Ragging Committee
The Anti- ragging committee of our College comprises a Media Person, a Lawyer
and a Police Official. An Anti-Ragging Squad has been formed to make surprise visits in
both the hostels. A formal circular is sent to each class indicating the toll-free phone
number and the stringent measures that would be taken against ragging. Frequent
warnings are given to all students on behalf of the Committee. Phone numbers of the
Coordinator of the Anti-Ragging Committee and the toll free number are displayed on
the notice boards of the college and the hostels. Close vigilance and monitoring is done
within the campus with the help of CCTV cameras located at different strategic points. A
special meeting on “Legal Aspects of Ragging” was arranged by the Anti Ragging
Committee for all the first year students on 21.08.2013.
Alumni Association
The Annual Alumni Get-Together is an occasion when the alumni of our college
meet together with great zeal and with devotional fervour towards their Alma Mater.
They share their sweet reminiscences. It also paves way to elicit feedback and
suggestions from our alumni regarding the development of our institution on many
aspects. The Alumni Get Together for this year was organized on 02.02.2014 at our
College Seminar Hall. The meeting was honoured by the turn out of Alumni in great
number. We introduced last year a new practice of honouring our distinguished alumni

flood victims in Uttharakand on 19.07.13. A. Mohammed Salman of III B.Sc. Maths and
S. Sulaiman of II BCA deserve special mention here, as they actively collected the relief
materials. The Youth Welfare Department of our College organized an Orientation
programme on “Leadership Qualities” on 21.09.2013, in collaboration with the Youth
Welfare Department of our College. Mr. K.Kirubakran, TVS – Nellai Motors, Tirunelveli,
Mr. S.P. Manikandan, I.A.S. Academy, Tirunelveli, Prof. S.V.S. Michael, HOD of
Economics, St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli and Prof. Eugine Franco,

resource persons. The Youth Welfare Department of our college organized cultural
events in the Book Fair conducted on 15.10.13 by the Tirunelveli District Collectorate and
the Tamil Cultural Development Centre. A. Mohamed Ibrahim of II M.A English
showed a spectacular display of martial arts on the occasion. Our students C.S. Malathy
of II B.Sc. Physics and M. Marimuthu of II B.A. English won the first prize in the
University level Quiz Competition held at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University on
24.12.13. Dr. S. Mahadevan is the coordinator.
NET Coaching Centre
We have a well established NET Coaching Centre in our College which is being
funded by the UGC. The P.G. students as well as the staff working in the unaided
category are given intense coaching in the preparation for NET examinations.
Dr.A.H.Mohideen Badshah is the coordinator. The teachers are taking classes using
Smart Teaching methods and computers. The students are highly motivated and well
trained by the NET Coaching Centre of our College. The Self-Financing staff are actively
making use of the NET Coaching Centre’s Library materials and computer facilities.
The Equal Opportunity Centre of our college aims at empowering the students
from the weaker sections of the community and uplifting them on par with developed
sections of the society. Prof. Mohamed Roshan is the staff in charge for the centre. The
centre will conduct various programmes to provide exposure to the students from
fringes of the society regarding the following:
