Fifth Grade Teacher Linda Kloss was recognized by the Kohl Foundation as the recipient of the Kohl’s Teacher Fellowship Award. This award was accompanied by a $3,000 gift to the teacher, along with a $3,000 gift to the school.

Momentum from these positive developments led to the greatest increase in enrollment in over a decade. The number of students jumped from 486 in May to 532 in September. This increase was bolstered by the expansion of the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program which allowed many current and new families to receive tuition vouchers.

The school continued along a path of strong financial growth by finishing in the black for the sixth straight year. HCS also saw over $280,000 in giving during the year, making many of the renovations at the new campus possible. In addition, the HCS team accomplished 16 major goals from the school’s strategic plan.

2014-15 was a pivotal year at Heritage. Ranging from the highly visible new campus, to the invisible changed hearts, God was at work doing great things. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the future!

While the purchase of a new campus in November 2014 may have seemed like the most important new development at Heritage Christian Schools last year, the eternal work God was doing in the hearts and minds of our students was greater.

Jesus said that the second greatest commandment is to “love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39). Led by this imperative, the theme “Love One Another” was declared for the 2014-15 school year. A relentless focus on that theme changed students’ lives and improved the culture of the school.

And of course the board and administration were also excited about the newly purchased, two-story, former public school building on Glen Park Road in New Berlin. Renovations, including new offices, fresh paint, and beautiful landscaping, began in the winter and continued until the first day of school.

Elsewhere, standardized test scores rose as the average HCS student scored in the 80th percentile on the national Terra Nova exam. Eighty-seven percent (87%) of our students taking Advanced Placement exams scored 3 or higher, qualifying them to receive college credit. The average score on the ACT college entrance exam also rose significantly.
