The next three years are going to beabout enriching the human and physicalinfrastructure of Brandon University. In the last four years, we have improved programming, recruitment and the physical environment. We need to topoff all of these efforts by improving the quality of the institution. To that end, weare launching our exciting capital campaign BU & YOU… Growing,Enhancing and Succeeding! Feedbackfrom the Brandon University family indicates some important priorities forour campaign. One is to grow our campus infrastructure. The other twolegs of the campaign involve enhancingour learning and teaching resources, and succeeding with research andendowments. The Foundation is indispensable in meeting these needs.I look forward to working with you onthis $8 million campaign. It is a targetthat I believe we can achieve and one that is easily within the reach of thecapabilities of our supporters. I wish usall luck and I’ll see you on the campaigntrail.

Thank you to all who contribute so generously ofyour time and financial support to Brandon University.Because of the generosity of our donors, we are ableto enrich program offerings at Brandon University andexpand scholarships and bursaries.

This year, donations to the Brandon UniversityFoundation totaled $933,455. I’d like to take thisopportunity to thank past and present Board members for building a strong ‘foundation’ forBrandon University Foundation, thereby allowing for

our continued success.

Our Presidents’ Circle continues to be one of the most successful fundraising eventsat Brandon University. Our donors deserve our heartfelt thanks and we hope toenjoy their company at future exciting events. These events have certainly showcasedBrandon University, and have made our donors feel part of the University community.

We’ve certainly enjoyed our new Executive Director of the Department ofInstitutional Advancement, Marc Desrosiers. Marc has built a friendly, cohesive, cooperative team that works tirelessly and is second to none. Working tirelessly willdefinitely be the name of the game as we move into a major campaign this year, butwe’re all energized by the challenge.

We’re pleased to honour two very special people this year. Congratulations to DaleSeveryn, recipient of the Apex Award, and to Doug Adams, recipient of the Fundraiserof the Year Award. It is also our pleasure, along with Dr. Visentin and the Board ofGovernors, to honour George and Mary Gooden for their endless service to theUniversity by naming the gallery in the ceremonial room of the Health StudiesComplex, the “George and Mary Gooden Gallery of Art”.

May you all enjoy a healthy, happy summer and possibly a well-deserved rest. In thewords of Dr. Louis Visentin,“to be continued”.

“The Presidents’ Circle recognizes and involves Brandon University alumniand friends who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to our students andthe institution through significant financial support.”

The 2003 Presidents’ Circle season continued our reputation for world-class performances and unique special events. Presidents’ Circle membersenjoyed a world premiere concert with renowned concert pianist and BrandonUniversity faculty member Alexander Tselyakov, including a Russian inspiredreception. With “A Taste of China”, Presidents’ Circle members and guestsenjoyed a concert performance of traditional Chinese musical instruments byvisiting Professor Jun-Rong Ban from Nanjing Xiaozhuang University and hisInternational students from the School of Music. These concerts brought ourmembers and guests closer to the culture and tradition of these countries, whileemphasizing the superior quality of faculty and students that are unique toBrandon University. Additional events in 2003 included a “Renaissance and Renewal” address on the futuredirection of Brandon University by Dr. Louis P. Visentin, a “Bobcats Basketball Extravaganza” and a“Medieval Christmas Reception” at University House.

The 2003/2004 Presidents’ Circle season also included an exciting field trip excursion to the BakerHutterite Colony in MacGregor, Manitoba. This trip was in recognition of the Brandon University HutterianEducation Program. As one of the most progressive industrial colonies in the area, members had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view the work of the colony, and enjoyed a traditional dinner and choir performance.

Donations towards the Presidents’ Circle Scholar in Residence Program will enrich the student experienceat Brandon University as well as provide an opportunity for the larger Brandon community to benefit from theexposure to great minds and great talents. Through this program, the University will have the opportunity to support the research and instruction of new scholars in residence and attract them to Brandon University in a variety of departments and activities, while enabling them to participate in upcoming Presidents’ Circle activities. In 2003/2004, the Presidents’ Circle raised over $277,000 towards the creation of new endowmentson campus and the enhancement of a wide variety of existing programs and faculties.

The Presidents’ Circle recognizes contributions of $1,000 or more annually. In recognition of their valuedsupport, members receive a regular newsletter, a Premium Benefits Card with discounts on campus activitiesand resources, and invitations to exclusive events.
