Dear Members of the MDS:

On behalf of the MDS Board of Directors, i’d like to personally welcome each of you to the 2016 Medical Dermatology Society Annual Meeting. it’s an exciting time for the MDS, as we continue to grow, we remain always adaptable, motivated and responsive to medical dermatology. Our organization is faced with a number of challenges which we’re meeting head on during a time of larger nation-wide and global change. the MDS remains committed to sharing knowledge, facilitating collaborative opportunities and supporting the development of inspired dermatologists who will advance the subspecialty.

there has been an increasing interest in the MDS as reflected by the continued increase in abstracts submitted. this year we received a record number of 51 submissions. the Annual Meeting continues to grow in attendance; another record attendance of 268 members joined us last year in San Francisco, an 8% increase from the attendance in Denver for the 2014 Annual Meeting. Again this year, funding for the annual meeting was generated by selling ads in the Annual Meeting Program Book; this has generated over $4,600 as of February 1, 2016, the MDS is alive and well and shows signs of continued growth.

As in previous years, you will find this programming to be comprehensive and relevant. the MDS education and Program Committee Members have worked extremely hard to ensure a quality program for all MDS members. Personally i want to thank the Program Committee for their efforts in organizing the 2016 professional program. the committee is composed of Carrie Kovarik, MD (Program Chair); Amit garg, MD (Program Co-Chair); Adela Rambi Cardones, MD; Robert Micheletti, MD; Robert Micheletti, MD; Ruth Ann Vleugels, MD, MPH; Karolyn Wanat, MD; Kevin Wang, MD, David Wetter, MD and Alan Zhou, MD, MSc.

i’d like to give you an idea of what you can expect and what we hope to achieve during today’s Annual Meeting. Dermatology Outcomes reports

will be provided by Drs. Robert Swerlick, emory University; Kristina Callis Duffin, University of utah; and eric Simpson from Oregon Health and Science university. Management of Hidrantenitis Suppurativa will be featured by Dr. gregor Jemec from the university of Copenhagen. Dr. Robert Kirsner from the university of Miami will be presenting a session on Wound Management in medical dermatology. the content of this activity focuses on current issues that physicians diagnosing or treating patients with complex medical dermatologic problems will encounter during clinical care activities in the outpatient clinic and in the inpatient setting.

Before i close, i’d like to thank each of you for attending the MDS Annual Meeting and bringing your expertise to our gathering. You, as organization leaders, have the vision, the knowledge, the wherewithal and the experience to help pave our way into the future. You are truly our greatest asset today and tomorrow, and we could not accomplish what we do without your support and leadership. throughout this annual meeting, i ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help us shape the future of medical dermatology. My personal respect and thanks goes out to all of you.

if you have any questions regarding the upcoming meeting or other MDS activities, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly or to our administrative office. Welcome to the 2016 Annual Meeting!

Sincerely,

Janet A. Fairley, MD MDS President
