lue ridge school, as you all know, is not like most schools. We do not accept just any student who wants to go to a private, college preparatory, boarding school. We accept only boys who have not yet discovered their potential, but who are boys of character and possess a willingness to learn. That has been our focus

for the past 50 years since the school re-opened as an all boys, all boarding, preparatory school, and I am proud to say it will continue to be our focus for many years to come.

That is where you, our alumni, past and current parents, supporters, and friends, are so vital. our mission has not and will not change, but as a modern preparatory school we must continue to grow and strengthen our program. It is your support and generosity that allows such growth.

The Annual Report reflects the support we received in 2010-2011, and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you the positive ways that support is affecting BRS this school year. We have realigned our resources and added new programs to better enable us to provide a school consistent with the times we live in and to give our boys the skills and abilities they will need to function effectively in their worlds.

We know we are very good at teaching boys and we are putting more emphasis on new learning techniques that research shows work very well with boys. In addition, we have added three new academic positions to introduce new programs and expand current ones: performing arts, computer science, and an international program coordinator. and we have made continuing education a requirement for our entire faculty so that they stay current in their respective fields.

While we grow, we are focused on the fact that Blue ridge’s greatest asset is our students. The Blue ridge experience is designed with the boys in the center and all departments and programs are working together to provide an integrated experience for every student. from admission to graduation when a young man becomes an alumnus, every employee at the school participates in a student’s experience. administrative personnel, like the academic faculty and staff, interact with the boys as coaches, clubs sponsors, teachers, and have night and weekend duty in the dorms. Conversely, academic faculty and staff work with administrators in admissions, advancement, and alumni relations, to help reach the school’s goals.

The continued success of our students and our School is a team effort in which you, too, are a part; a very important part. Thank you for helping us make Blue ridge school the best school at teaching boys.

The Annual Fund is the lifeblood of Blue Ridge School. funds from annual giving go directly into the operating budget. These essential dollars provide a wide variety of items, such as funds for the creation of new programs of study, support for the social activities program, resources to meet the needs of the athletic and fine arts programs, and help to ensure that the School maintains a balanced budget.

In addition to the actual dollar amount raised each year, the overall participation level is an important guide for major donors and an indicator of the school’s success. Blue ridge school solicits alumni, grandparents, parents, alumni parents, corporations, foundations, and friends each year. donors of all types consider the percentage of participation in the annual fund from our many constituent groups when they make their gifts – so every gift counts!
