ABOUT USThe Lake Leelanau Lake Association (LLLA) represents the interests of Lake Lake Leelanau shoreline property owners (riparians) and everyone else concerned with the well-being of Lake Leelanau and its watershed. Founded in 1980 and incorporated as a nonprofit (501c) organization in 2003, the LLLA claims many hundreds of dues-paying members. Many of us volunteer on committees and in a variety of other capacities to address issues such as Swimmer's Itch, invasive species, wetlands preservation, zoning, water quality, and watercraft safety.

The Lake Association actively partners with other organizations. In recent months the LLLA has joined with the Leelanau Conservancy to forever preserve a portion of the Narrows that had been slated for marina development. The Fishing Committee regularly meets with and helps the Fisheries Division of the DNR on fish planting and management issues. In the past the Committee has installed "Christmas tree shelters" to provide cover for small fish; assisted the DNR in planting brown trout, lake trout, walleye and whitefish; and has purchased and planted bluegills in Lake Leelanau.

In collaboration with other Leelanau County lake associations, and the Conservancy, the LLLA participates in the Leelanau Watershed Council. Under the aegis of the Council, Lake Association members conduct periodic aquatic plant surveys of the lake, and we partner with the Leelanau Conservation District to monitor the lake for outbreaks of invasive phragmites. Since 1990, volunteers have aided in the process of gathering data on the physical and chemical properties of the Lake Leelanau watershed.

We aim to protect the interest-in-the-lake of all who care about Lake Leelanau; and to conserve the

lake for future generations. To these ends, the Lake Leelanau Lake Association seeks to protect

Lake Leelanau and better life on it through ongoing programs to promote safety & civility; to improve fishing; to safeguard water quality; and to protect

the ecology of the lake and its watershed. To these ends, the Lake Association actively encourages

Lake-friendly development and advocates for Lake-friendly public policies and initiatives.

Member & Friend Comments• Great work! Need more volunteers to help with

all the work that needs to be done. • We do not live on Lake Leelanau but support your

efforts.• You've done a great job fighting development at

the Narrows. • We live on Lake Michigan but care about

Lake Leelanau and boat via public ramps.• Thanks for this important work. • Great organization with dedicated board.• I love our sea planes.

Join Us!

MEMBER BENEFITSDo good: your support promotes

• Coordination and cooperation of Lake protection efforts along with the Leelanau Conservancy, the Leelanau Conservation District, Leelanau Clean Water, and other lake associations, including doing aquatic plant surveys called for in the Lake Leelanau Watershed Protection Plan and monitoring the lake for phragmites outbreaks with the Leelanau Conservation District.

• Good waterfront land use practices. • Kids' Fishing Day: Developed by our Fishing

Committee, this event regularly draws upwards of 600 kids & adults. As a result, Leelanau County has acquired Veronica Valley Park as a permanent site for this event, and for the year-round enjoyment of all.

• Good fishing: the Fish Committee has long worked with the DNR and others to stock fish and maintain quality fishing on Lake Leelanau.

• Advocacy for Lake-friendly public policies in Leelanau County and its townships.

• Marine safety education and equipment, such as the LLLA-donated buoys at the entry to the Leland River, and at the Narrows.

• Action against Swimmer's Itch: we are working to reduce the incidence of itch in Lake Leelanau, to find effective itch repellants, and to educate bathers about best practices for avoiding Swimmer's Itch.

Do right: what the LLLA does for the Lake benefits all lakefront property owners and everyone else who enjoys Lake Leelanau's delights. Join us!

Make friends & meet people: being a friend to the Lake is a great way to make friends and meet your neighbors on the Lake.

Get the Lake Leelanau Lake Association Newsletter three times a year: Spring, Summer, and Fall.

As a 501c organization all membership fees and donations to the LLLA are fully tax deductible.
