DISCOVERINGBEAUTY in Unexpected Places
Kaleidoscopes utilize a rather simple concept to transform an array of colorful pieces into amazingly beautiful designs. Life often hands us our hopes and dreams in shattered pieces. Choosing to look through a lens of courage, determination or faith can offer the perspective needed to find hope, direction and even beauty.
At first glance, it may appear that people with disabilities associated with Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and other intellectual and physical challenges have been denied the kind of life we all want for ourselves and our families. It is true, many things are difficult for the individuals we support and those that love them. However, here are just a few of the beautiful things you will see when you visit CCARC.
• A place where people feel comfortable and are treated with respect
• Humble, tender expressions of kindness• Caring, dedicated staff who go the extra mile
every day• Lifelong care in a warm, comfortable home • Opportunities to be part of the local
community• Laughter, singing, dancing• Employment and a chance to earn wages• A Board of Directors ensuring the health and
integrity of CCARC• Creating artwork to be displayed at shows
and galleries• CCSU students and faculty giving of their
time and talents• Lasting, satisfying friendships with other
adults • Volunteers leading fun activities and
donating time to spruce up our homes• Dreams coming true for people with
disabilities
Message from Our President & Chief Executive Officer
2
Dear Friends of CCARC,
Since 1952, the CCARC Family and the community-at-large have partnered together to advocate for a better life for people with disabilities. This has been achieved by devoting our efforts and resources to offering a comprehensive system of community-based services.
We continue to be grateful for the confidence and trust that families place with us in the day-to-day support and care of their loved ones. The CCARC staff are committed to our mission to “Make Dreams Happen” and to providing individualized services to the people we are fortunate to support.
Together we have fought diligently to create a full range of lifetime supports needed by people with a full range of disability. Fortunately, the state is recognizing the value of nonprofit providers and our advocacy efforts have continued to educate our legislative representatives. Unfortunately, the state still does not fully fund the cost to provide these critical services. Although it seems hard to believe, the rate has not increased since 2007! If they continue on this path of no increases, it could degrade the system that has taken 65 years to establish.
We have come to have great expectations of our friends from the community—and we have not been disappointed. This annual report celebrates the generosity and heartfelt kindness you have continually extended to CCARC and the individuals and families we support. Thank you for embracing our mission and partnering with us to ensure people with intellectual disabilities receive high quality care, enjoy meaningful relationships and experience a life that is satisfying.

OUR MISSION “Make Dreams Happen”
OUR VISION “Provide Personalized Services for People with Disabilities”
Founded in 1952, CCARC, Inc. enjoys a longstanding history of service to people with intellectual disabilities such as Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and other developmental and physical conditions.
CCARC’s Mission and Vision are applied every day through the array of services we offer individuals and their families. Our Day Services focus on providing a range of opportunities for socialization, acquiring and refining skills, participating in community activities, volunteering and securing paid employment. Nearly 150 men and women are transported to our main facility on a daily basis from their family homes, group homes operated by CCARC and other private providers, and various residential settings.
Similarly, our residential services are dedicated to recognizing the personal preferences and specific emotional, physical, social and healthcare needs of the more than 70 individuals residing in our eleven group homes and other settings. Located in established neighborhoods throughout Central Connecticut, CCARC’s homes stand out for being well-maintained, orderly, warm and comfortable dwellings where people with disabilities can share life together and be part of their local community.
At CCARC, we truly believe that all people have the right to choose their place in the world. Each person’s, health, safety and overall well-being are of primary importance, as is their personal dignity. It is our privilege to assist in paving the way for individuals with intellectual disabilities to experience a life that is satisfying and offers opportunities to enjoy fulfilling relationships and activities.
