Welcome to the LADS 34th annual performance.

This is our f i fth opportunity to give the Brothers Grimm classic a good kicking. We were very for tunate to discover the or iginal screenplay from the 1937 Walt Disney f i lm and have only altered i t a l i t t le b it - honest ! We’ re not sure why Walt chose to go with the rather soppy second re-write. Perhaps he wouldn’t have had such a miserable flop on his hands, i f he had used this vers ion.

In her review in this week’s Guardien, Pol ly Tinybee descr ibed this product ion of ‘Snow White ’ as : “A searing indic tment o f the pos t-coal i t ion cos t-cut t ing e thos , where contemporar y anachronisms create a profound and dee pl y di s turbing re fl e c t ion on cur rent soc ia l i s sues and values” – but then she hasn’t had to share a tiny cottage with seven treacle-miners of d iminutive stature. Probably. She obviously didn’t like the car chase and naked mud-wrestling scenes.

Budgetary cuts have led us to go ‘Black & White ’ this year. That and a cer ta in homage to the work of American ar t ist , writer and director Frank Mil ler (Sin Ci ty & The Spir i t ) . To ful ly appreciate the experience, please make use of the special 3-D glasses avai lable from behind the bar. They should be f i l led with strong alcohol to get the best e f fect ! Regular attendees to LADS’ product ions may notice the complete absence this year of the sor t of cheap smut and g ratuitous f i l th that have marred so many previous shows. Members of the audience accept ing that statement of intent , wi l l a lso bel ieve that they are watching a documentary.

Please do not restrain yourselves in demonstrat ing your benevolence, largesse and phi lanthropic nature, as we are rais ing funds for the Sasha Rober ts Scholarship Fund and the League of Friends Lewes Victoria Hospital . I t would be good to crack the magic £2,000 barr ier this year, so that these two very worthy causes can each benef i t from a ‘ four f igure ’ donat ion.

My thanks must go to everyone who has put such in such a considerable amount of t ime & ef for t into putt ing on this year ’s product ion. Thanks also to Abi and the Lewes Arms’ staf f for putt ing up with us and the ensuing disruption that we cause. Our special thanks must go to you – the audience – for your continued support of our feeble e f for ts. We real ly do appreciate your t i tters – and the men are most welcome too!

Have a good night .

Adam.

rebecca gracey - badgerOur hard-working Backstage Crew can resist anything - except the temptation to hang out Where the Wild Things Are and Rebecca fills out her badgerish role very nicely. jonathan hopkins - penguinSince he crept out under cover of a shovel two productions ago, Jonno has become almost THEATRICAL in his determination to get on stage. But please....don't put salmon spread in your interval sandwiches. We can't take responsibility for the consequences.jack wilkinson - docWe nearly had a Proper Brouhaha on our hands when Jack first discovered that he wasn't going Down The Mine in his best frock. But fortunately, he didn't feel palmed off with the part of Doc so we managed to avoid a chorus of "Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Flouncing Off I Go". martin leeburn - grumpyNot more Sodding Typecasting, surely? Fresh from his first LADS outing as the villainous Squire, Martin's performance as the Slightly Tetchy Dwarf has lifted the mood no end at rehearsals. But then for Martin, this acting lark seems to be as easy as A B Ced bassford - sicklyTaking a break from many panto years of Municipality, Ed has cast off his canonicals this year to take on the role of Sickly. Which he does most enthusiastically since it is definitely not a part to be sneezed at.kirrily long - happyAnother of our Second Year LADS, Kirrily plays the Ludicrously Cheerful Dwarf with the guiless zeal. Let's not be having any Happy Slapping, though. Just move along....dino bishop - sleazyDino may be "Going Straight" this year but he's not holding back. So don't, whatever you do, make direct eye contact. He can do things with innocent jars of Marmite that are almost unthinkable. Even to Pacific Rim perverts.dilly barlow - bashfulOur third LADS panto Virgin, Dilly has settled in a treat - for starters she brings cake! - but she's also got Thoroughly Into Bashful and her interpretation is terrific. Just like her cake. jane smithers - dopeyJane joins the Magnificent Seven this year and while she may not be playing the heroine, she's certainly a very heroic member of the LADS and has put up with a lot over the years. Always with a smiling face and quite often, with a bag of Jelly Babies! Not that we'd like you to get the impression that the LADS constantly eat cake, cake, more cake and sweets. Because outside the Green Room, we don't share our tuck boxes nicely.

nicky murrell - magic mirrorNicky hasn't booked a holiday during panto week this year. On reflection we think this is cracking news because she's turned in some shining performances.roz south - wicked stepmotherDeep down in her wicked heart, Roz suspects she may not really be the Fairest in the Land. But hey, just being able to postulate the idea keeps the geriatric old thesp able to Carry on Cheerily. That and the chance to do Murder Most Foul! So do feel free to hiss and boo. mike piller - kingThe first up of this year's Panto Virgins and By Jove, Mike is a tremendous find and we're very much liking the cut of his jib. So give him the clap he so royally deserves.nick hazle - prince rupertThe monobrowed Boy Wonder plays the very, very slightly needy Romantic Lead. This year Nick avoids "wardrobe malfunctions" so please, keep his entrances clear and uncongested. vicky funnell - snow whiteOur second Panto Virgin, Vicky is, like, awesome at singing and stuff. And acting and stuff. Oh, and she's a jolly good sport and like, we really like her. Which is, like, cool. Isn't it?val hazle - croneThe scriptwriters have been kinder to Val this year. No rhyming couplets, nearly 110% of evilitude and not even the tinest touch of pink in the costume. Plus the chance to slap the Wicked Stepmother. What's Not to Like About that?

adam frost - huntsmanThis is Adam's second Directorial Year and he's brought some properly Brechtian overtones to the production. In between the artsy-fartsy bits and attempts to get the cast to do radical things like learn lines, he gets to Kill Things. bambo - himselfA Very Big Hand, please for the last appearance from this loyal Old Retainer. He's served the LADS faithfully for many panto years but he's hanging up his antlers and going into a very well deserved "retirement". martin spinelli - rabbitIf you go down to the Woods today you may not be surprised to discover there's a Rampant Rabbit crashing through the overgrown undergrowth. Martin knocks this particular part out with real gusto too! debby matthews - mr fluffyIf you value YOUR nuts then don't, just don't, diss Mr Fluffy. He's the Daddy of the Hood, he's a Bad Ass Mutha he's....well actually, he's Debby. Who, after her LADS virgin turn last year has, we are pleased to announce, come back for more!
