Curriculum Development

As per the recommendations of Curriculum Development Cell the above mentioned

departments updated their syllabus to suit the recent trends in the employability market.

After preliminary meetings in the department the syllabus were finalized by the internal

board members and presented for approval on the day of board of studies meeting.

11. Innovations under Autonomy

Soft Skill training programme by Redington has been established in the college to

impart soft skill training to the students. It is a year long programme. Nearly 100

students were benefitted during the academic year 2017-2018.

As a part of additional online courses the staff members and PG Students register

themselves to the appropriate courses suiting their discipline through NPTEL.

Achievements

As a milestone and achievement of our staff members I am very proud to say that an

amount of Rs. 95,00,000 (95 lakhs) has been sanctioned under “Fund for Improvement of

Science & Technology infrastructure in Universities & Higher Educational Institutions

(FIST) by Department of Science and Technology (DST) for 5 years.

Department of Chemistry has received an amount of Rs. 10,000 from Tamil Nadu

State Council for Higher Education (TANSHE) for conducting National Level

Conference.

Department of Life Sciences (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Nutrition and

Biotechnology) received Rs. 20,000 from Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher

Education (TANSHE) for conducting International Level Conference.

Department of Foods and Nutrition received an amount of Rs. 50,000 from Indian

Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for conducting International Level Conference.

Department of Physics has received Rs.1,32,000 from Indian Science Academy,

1. International yoga day was celebrated on 21.06.2017, jointly organized by IRCS,

Vellore district branch. 200 YRC volunteers participated in the Yoga demonstration.

2. District level drawing competition was organized by IRCS, Vellore district branch on

the topic, “Fundamental principles Red cross movement” on 06.08.2017. Ms.

L.Pavithra III B.com won the II prize on the 68th

Geneva Convention Day celebrated

on 12.08.2017 at 4p.m. Our Vellore District collector Thiru S.A.Raman presided over

the function.

3. “Swaach Bharath” Programme was organized at government High school,

Edayanchathu Panchayat on 17.08.2017. 120 YRC Volunteers from III B.sc

Mathematics and III B.com actively involved in the cleaning process of the school

campus and 25 saplings were planted within the School campus.

4. Dr.K.Ameenal Bibi, YRC Programme officer was the chief guest for the 71st

Independence day celebrations at Velammal Bodhi campus School, Vellore 1, on

15.08.2017

5. YRC Blood Donation Camp was organized on 13.09.2017. Thirty units of blood were

given to Government Medical College Hospital, Adukkamparai.

6. Dr.K.Ameenal Bibi was the resourcre person for the YRC activities of Induction

Programme at Mazharul Uloom College, Ambur on 16.09.2017.

7. World Humanitarian Day was celebrated on 26.09.2017. A Human Rally was

organized from Vellore Town Hall to Gandhi Statue and an awareness talk on this

programme was followed.50 Volunteers participated in the programme.

8. Dr.K.Ameenal Bibi was the resource person for the YRC meeting at Sri

Akilandeswari Women’s college of Arts and science, Vandavasi on 06.10.2017.

9. Dr.K.Ameenal Bibi represented Tamilnadu YRC team in the five days Inter-State

Training cum study camp organized by Odisha State Branch,IRCS at Nilachal

Polytechnic College, Bhuvaneshwar from 17.12.2017 to 21.12.17.

10. Dr.T.Bharathi, Assistant Professor of commerce, along with four YRC Volunteers

took part in the 4 days State Level YRC Training Cum Study Camp organized by

Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore from 20.12.2017 to 23.12.2017.

11. One day District level YRC Study camp was organized at our college campus on

30.01.2018. Seventeen colleges of Vellore District participated with the strength of 70

YRC Volunteers and 14 YRC Programme officers.

12. District Level Elocution Contest was organized on 06.02.2018 on the topic ,”The

Training Programmes to be given to YRC Volunteers to face the challenges of

Natural disaster”. Ms S.B.Thilagavathy II B.sc chemistry of our college won the first

13. Dr.K.Ameenal Bibi was the resource person for the “YRC Programme officer’s

Meet” at Thiruvalluvar University on 09.02.2018.

14. Dr.K.Ameenal Bibi, Associate Professor of Mathematics and Dr.T.Bharathi, Assistant

Professor of Commerce were the resource persons on the topics “History of Redcross”

and “Awareness on HIV/AIDS” respectively at the three days zonal camp of Youth

Redcross organized by Thiruvalluvar university,Serkkadu from 21.02.2018 to

23.02.2018. Seven YRC Volunteers from our college participated.

15. One day District Level Disaster Management Camp was organized by IRCS,Vellore

District Branch from 9 a.m to 5 p.m on 10.03.2018. Seventeen YRC Volunteers from

our college took active part in the camp.

16. International Women’s Day and the Death Anniversary of the first Women

Educationist in India, Ms. Savithri Bhai Bhulae’s memories were dicussed in the YRC

meeting organized on 12.03.2018. The Journalist Ms.Kavin Malar from Chennai

interacted with the gathering of 125 YRC Volunteers.

ROTRACT CLUB

Rotract Club of DKMC was inaugurated on 29th

august 2017 by Rtn V.Ganesh,

President Rotract club of Vellore presidency in D-Block conference Hall.

MsS. keerthana II Maths was selected as President, K.Priya II Zoology was selected

as Vice President and Ms Rehnuma II nutrition was selected as treasurer.

Nearly 20 Plant slapping was planted by Actor Vishnu Vishal in VVKM School

campus as a part of ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS to ensure Clean and pure

Surrounding

Rotract club along with Dr.Thangamani,(Associate Chairman, Literacy R.I.Dist 3231)

organized Free Eye Camp for to the students on 15.09.17.

Free eye check-up was done to nearly 1000 students

ANEMIA AWARENESS PROGRAM was conducted by Doctors from MMM

Hospital, Vellore along with Masonic blood bank on 21.12.17. They have tested bone

density of the staff & students freely. Almost 350 students bone density was

measured.

On the day, our rotract members (nearly 37students) from various department denoted

blood in Blood denotation Camp conducted by Rotract club on 21 December 2017.

PLACEMENT CELL

The excellent academic records of our students do not end with the results. They get

translated into fruitful career in several corporate. A few others pursue entrepreneurship in

family business.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL

The entrepreneurship development cell has conducted three days entrepreneurship

awareness camp for final year students of our college from 21st to 23

rd February 2018.

The programme consists of two days technical session and one day industrial visit.

The first day (21-02-2018) session was inaugurated at 9.30 a.m. with prayer song by

the students and lighting kuthuvilakku by the chief guest. The gatherings were welcomed by

Dr. K. Devi, EDP Nodal officer. The inaugural address was given by Thiru. S. Damodaran,

LDM, Indian Bank, Vellore spoke about the Women entrepreneurs and the facilities of the

loan provided by the Indian Bank.

Keynote address was given by Thiru.D. Thilaga Rajan, Asst. General Manager,

Canara Bank, Regional office, Vellore, and Thiru P.K. Anil kumar, Chief Manager, Canara

Bank, Vellore spoke about the facilities available for getting loan from the Canara Bank.

Thitu.P.S. Asokan, Project Manager, DIC, Vellore spoke about the micro, small and

medium enterprises and the facilities for availing loan from DIC. Motivated the students to

become an entrepreneur.

The inaugural session came to an end with the vote of thanks given by

Dr. A. Sudarvizhi, Asst. prof. of Commerce.

The technical session started at 11.15 a.m. Thiru. Jc.HGF.V. Ramaswami, National

Trainer, JCI India spoke about the “Entrepreneurship need and Importance”.

The next session at 12.15 p.m. was handled by Thiru L.M.V. Devakumar B. com.,

CAIIB., Senior Manager (Rtd.) Canara Bank, Vellore, on “Soft Skills”.

After lunch break at 2.15 p.m. Tmt. M. Malliga, Branch Manager, Tamil Nadu

Industrial Investment Corporation Ltd., (TIIC), Vellore, spoke about the functions of TIIC.

The Management game was conducted by Dr. K. Devi, EDP nodal officer at 3.30 p.m

to 5.00 p.m.

Second day (22-02-2018)

The first session was handled at 9.30 a.m. by Dr. A. Sudarvizhi, Asst. prof. of

Commerce, spoke about the “Qualities of an Entrepreneur”.

After tea break the next session was handled by Dr. K. Revathi, Professor & Dean,

School of Social science and Languages, VIT University, Vellore on “Personality

Development”.

Afternoon session commenced at 2.00 p.m. Tmt. Sasikala Velmurugan, Suvai fruits

and vegetables processing unit, Kavasampattu, Vellore, shared her experience as successful

Entrepreneur in preparing fruit juices, pickles and other food products.

The Second session was handled by Thiru. I. Ruban Austin, Manager, District supply

& Marketing Society (DSMS), Magalir thittam, Vellore, spoke about the Self Employment

Schemes and motivated our students on the available Magalir Government project. In the last

session ship building games were conducted by the EDP Nodal Officer.

As part of the third day programme we took our students to visit Industry near vellore,

to KRAMSKI- Stamping and molding India Pvt., Ltd. Eraiyankadu, Anaicut, Vellore.

Our students were very much impressed by visiting the industry, where the spare parts

for cars were made in plastics and metal mold by gold coating, which is exported to foreign

countries. The director of the industry is very kind enough to provide snacks to our students.

Then our students also visited the sewage treatment plant of the industry

Then we came back to our college. The feedback from the students was obtained.

WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CELL

Women development Cell inaugurated Cosmetology Certificate Course on 18.12.2017 in

collaboration with Angel Beauty Parlour Academy for aided and unaided students.

Dr.N.Thenmozhi, Head & Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry inaugurated this

Certificate Course.

Students from aided and unaided registered for the basic course were 23 and 20

respectively (Total 43 Students).

For the aided students classes where in the afternoon session and for the unaided student

classes were in the morning session for 5days with uration and one hour for practical classes.

Valedictory function conducted on 28.12.2017 at 11:30 am Dr. R. Banumathy co-

ordinator of WDC presented welcome address. Dr. P.N Sudha, Prinicipal DKM College for

women presided the function and the Chief Guest Mrs.J.Meenambari Trainer of Angel

Beauty Parlour Academy addressed the students and distributed the certificates to the

students.

Dr. Sonya, Assistant Professor of Food and Nutrition proposed vote of thanks.

The programme ended with national anthem.

Women development Cell in collaboration with Women’s Fast-Track, Justice court,

organised an awareness programme for one day on Legal Literary Camp on victim of acid

attack and awareness held on 28.2.18 at 3 p.m. Thiru. P. Mathusudhanan, District Judge,

Women’s Fast-Track, Justice court, Vellore and Dr. R. Banumathy co-ordinator of WDC

felicitated the gathering.

Thiru. P. Mathusudhanan highlighted on many issues related to legal education, legal

information, marital issues and various measures to overcome the legal problems through

society.

ENVIRO CLUB

D.K.M. College enviro club has started its 10th

year of service to the students and

college. Ms. J. Sandhiya, II B.Sc., Zoology is the president. Income was generated Rs.

Through cattle breeding, milk production, cultivating vegetable, greens through

organic manure production, waste products etc.

The club is supporting more than 30 self-help group women to improve their

economic and social status.

2 days Workshop was conducted on Green Vigour- “Health and Eco Awareness”.

College students are the participants to this workshop sponsored by Rajiv Ghandhi

National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Ministry of Skilled

Development Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports ,Govt. Of India. It is an

Youth Development programme (YDP) in Higher Educational Institutions

YOGA AND MEDITATION CLUB

All the Final year Zoology students attended the certificate course in Yoga for Youth

Empowerment in March. 2017. Conducted by the Faculties from Manavallakalai mandram,

Sankaranpalayam, Vellore.

ANTI RAGGING CELL

The Co-ordinator of Anti Ragging Cell is Dr. K. Devi, Associate Professor.,

Department of Zoology. The anti-ragging committee includes all the HODs of Major

Departments and the student representatives of all the classes. The Government and the UGC

guidelines about the anti-ragging were informed to the students in the assembly. Awareness

against the use of Tobacco products was also created. The Pamphlets with the instructions on

anti-ragging were distributed to create an awareness to the students and parents and obtained

their signature. A complaint box is placed in the college campus, to enable the students to

offer their complaints. I am proud to tell so far no complaint has been registered relating to

ragging. So, our college is 100% No Ragging college campus.

Regarding anti ragging a film show of UGC was shown on 16.08.2017 to all students

of our college

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

Annual Sports day was conducted on 06.09.2017. Though the

great day was over the events and the participation of Inter collegiate, Interdivision, Inter

Universities and open sports meet was continued.

Stadium, Vellore in that our college team got runner-up.

On 28th

August 2017, , Dr.M.G.R Centenary Celebration Hand Ball, Kho-Kho, and

volley ball tournament was held at Nethaji Stadium, Vellore in that all three games our

college team got runner-up.

On 31st August 2017, Dr.M.G.R Centenary Celebration Marathon race was conducted

by Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu, Vellore. in that S.Priyadharshini, I M.A.

History got 2nd

On 11th

September 2017, Thiruvalluvar University conducted Inter Collegiate

Badminton and Table Tennis tournament at D.K.M.College for Women, Vellore. In

Badminton K.Indumathi, M.Phil (CS) was selected to participate in the Inter-Division
