Dear Friends of the Arts, This annual report recognizes the hundreds of people who make it possible for Allied Arts of Whatcom County to serve or region so successfully. It is the volunteers, donors, board of directors and staff who create the interest, the participation and the demand for our diverse programs.

Over the past year, Allied Arts of Whatcom County, has evaluated the budget and developed creative ways to produce quality art programs that serve the region. To prioritize effectively, we have had to rely on the organization’s mission statement: “Allied Arts of Whatcom County is dedicated to the arts in our region by empowering local artists through organized festivals and events, enriching our local school children through educational outreach programs, and working as a liaison to art enthusiasts of all ages, within our uniquely creative community.”

The most effective ways we have served that mission in the past year is through our efforts to promote the arts community of Whatcom County, though collaborative exhibits, festivals, arts education programs and regional marketing.

We thank all of you who have supported our efforts through membership, monetary and in-kind donations as well as the countless volunteer hours and community collaborations. We look forward to presenting another year of quality community arts programs.

Allied Arts is addressing the needs of our artists and is hoping to offer more opportunities to expand our organization to help them better. Here is a list of great programming and projects we are working on for 2017-18

Arts Education Program a multifaceted approach providing teacher training, all-school public art programs and high quality intensive standards based arts education.

Exhibits Series: Our gallery series consists of themed exhibits and curated juried shows and exhibits in other local venues.

Bellingham SeaFeast Festival in cooperation with the Bellingham SeaFeast represents every facet of its seaborne charm .

Art as Business Skill Share Presentations will help inspire creative souls in ways to profit from their arts.

Art Thrift Store where we sell gently used art supplies and/or artist’s seconds.

Arts in Vacant Spaces celebrate emerging and alternative arts in vacant spaces around Downtown Bellingham.

Holiday Festival of the Arts a Whatcom County tradition featuring over 100 artists in a five week-long celebration.

Children’s Art Walk each May, Downtown Bellingham celebrates Whatcom County Youth.

RARE – Recycled Arts Resource Expo a fusion of activities focusing on sustainability and reuse in the arts.

Whatcom Arts and Culture Guide a yearly listing and map of open studios, galleries, museums, performance venues and cultural offerings in our region.

Advocating for the Arts promoting the arts on a local, statewide and federal level.

Internship and Volunteer Opportunities are program based skill building projects for all ages and experience levels that help to make our programs possible.

Allied Arts not only presents monthly exhibits at their Gallery on Cornwall, but also curated exhibits featuring artwork by local artists at various off-site venues throughout Whatcom County.

Allied Arts Exhibit Services exhibited work from over 200 local artists over the past year. Gallery exhibits included seven group shows in our Juried Artist Series, Annual Member’s Show, Recycled Art Show, a showcase of local student work during Children’s Art Walk, and Elevation: The Art of Cascadia.

As well as exhibiting works from some of Northwest Washington’s greatest artists, our gallery has become a gathering place for organizations and individuals to host classes, workshops and presentations.

The Art Education Project focused on expanding opportunities for quality arts education to Whatcom County students aligning curriculum with art related state standards to aid in the learning of core subject matter.

Last year our program conducted workshops led by local artists in visual arts, dance, theatre and literary arts in public school classrooms. New last year was our fifth grade program. All fifth grade classes in Bellingham Public Schools received 12 hours of art sessions.

The project continues to support our community by helping develop equal access to arts education programs. Additionally, throughout the month of May, we host the Children’s Art Walk which provides children with a chance to display their works of art throughout Downtown Bellingham!

Allied Arts of Whatcom County hosts festivals to provide a setting in which artists can exhibit, discuss, as well as sell their work and to increase the accessibility of the arts in our community by providing a wide range of visual and performing arts in one location. 2016’s diverse line-up of festivals did just that.

RARE (Recycled Arts Resource Expo) April 2016 Our objectives for this event were to explore and educate the community and region regarding the role the arts can play a role in recycling, reuse, renewable energy and sustainable resources. Attendance, gallery sales and participation in activities continued to increase this year.

SeaFeast October 1, 2016 Allied Arts coordinated the art booths for the Bellingham SeaFeast with support from the Port of Bellingham, Bellingham SeaFeast provides a great opportunity to showcase this important local resources of our working waterfront.

37th Annual Holiday Festival of the Arts November 18 - December 24th, 2016 Our annual Holiday Festival celebrated its 37th year with over 100 art, craft, beauty product and gourmet food booths. The event connects local artists and craftspeople to people from throughout the region. Local musicians helped to bring in the holiday season. Open seven days a week and until 7:00pm.
