Dr. Jack Levin, a Professor of Sociology and Criminology at Northeastern University and a sociologist who specializes in the criminal, the hideous, the violent, and the bizarre will be on campus, Wednesday, April 26, noon, CE 108, to talk about "Murder in the Media."

By examining the apocalyptic movements of the past, Levin drives home the point that human beings have often created their own deadlines for the end of the world, especially during periods of rapid social change. At the end of a century - and even more so, at the end of a millennium - dangerous movements find an easy rationale for disaster.

Not to leave his college audiences totally without hope, Levin also presents a series of constructive recommendations for fighting the forces of millennial mischief and corning out on the other side of the time barrier in better shape than ever.

Dr. Levin has written 20 books including Overkill and Hate Crimes, has contributed to major newspapers including the "New York Times" and "USA Today," and has appeared frequently on national TV programs including "Oprah," "Larry King Live," "Today," "Good Morning America," and all major network newscasts.
