Announcement Donella Meadows Leadership Fellows Program Sustainability Institute (SI) is launching the Donella Meadows Leadership Fellows program to honor and boost the effective- ness of people whose approach to envi- ronmental and economic sustainability displays analytic clarity, systemic change and attention to spirit, values, and mean- ing. Fellows, primarily women, will be selected for their potential to influence thinking in wide circles of people. SI will select a mix of Fellows from nonprofits, business, government and philanthropy. Fellows will receive training and coach- ing in systems thinking and organizational learning. They will address environmen- tal and social issues at two levels: 1) pragmatic projects in their current work settings, and 2) the systems ‘‘rules’’ of institutions and markets that influence the success of their projects. Fellows will iden- tify concrete projects, tied to their current work, that involve diverse stakeholders around complex issues of sustainability. Program Methods and Outline During each two-year cycle 12–15 Fel- lows will share a program of learning experiences with each other and with Sus- tainability Institute staff to become more effective leaders for sustainability. Fellows will be matched with coaches from Sus- tainability Institute to negotiate an explicit learning plan that includes regular check- ins as well as shared design and occasional co-facilitation of events. Each Fellow will be supported in new stages of their ongoing work, grounded in systems analysis, and nurtured by a close network of colleagues. Fellows will commit in Year One to par- ticipating in one initial 5-day workshop, one 3-day workshop and a 10-day field study in another culture. In Year Two, there will be a 5-day workshop and final 3-day workshop. Fellows will not receive a stipend. The program will cover all travel, seminars and other expenses. Funding Needed The Donella Meadows Leadership Fel- lows program has been launched with a $100,000 challenge grant from the Mor- gan Family Foundation. SI is looking for additional donors to help meet this chal- lenge and to fund the remaining $800,000 needed for the first two-year program. Please support furthering Donella’s work by donating to the Leadership Fellows program in her name. SI looks to her professional colleagues to help us in this endeavor.
