Pagination is given for thecomplete paper, not solely for the pages referringdirectly to the subject species. Such a restrictedpagination was used by Reintjes, Christmas, andCollins (1960) to circumscribe limited referencesto menhaden occurring incidentally in largerworks.

Brief annotations of the coOntents of the publications and the scientific names of the species concerned are given. This annotation is done not tomake' value judgments. of the papers but to giveclearer dese-riptions of the contents than can beobtained from their titles.
