ANNLINES St. Ann’s Residence Newsletter
October 2019
Mission: To provide a caring home for seniors where they can find calm from the storms of life, regardless of status.
Administrator’s Letter
Hello Everyone,
Thank You to everyone that attended the spaghetti fundraiser and made
that not only successful, but also fun and festive. Your donations were very
appreciated and I think we are all happy to have that elevator repair fin-
ished.
We are still working on carpet cleaning. I had “Heavens Best” carpet clean-
ers come in and tackle our most difficult flooring. The result was beautiful.
Have a look at the second floor main hall. Our team learned two things:
Our carpets can be cleaned to look fantastic.
We don’t have the correct equipment to get the job done.
On October 2nd we are having the team from Dalco coming to Saint Ann’s
to demonstrate a large carpet cleaning machine. This is the same type of
equipment used at the Casinos and Hospitals. If the machine does what I
anticipate, we will be purchasing it so our maintenance team can make our
home look as clean and beautiful as possible.
One last thing, our front desk has limitations regarding check cashing. We
will only cash one $25 check per week per resident.
Sincerely,
Scott and Jan
Nurses Corner
October is a prime month to
receive your Influenza A & B
Vaccine.
When: Wednesday, October 2nd @ 8:30am
Where: Social Hall
What: Flu Vaccination
Falk’s Nursing Service Pharmacy
will be at St. Ann’s to administer
FREE Influenza A & B Vaccines
to residents and employees.
The High Dose Vaccine will be
available for residents. Please
bring your insurance card with
you if you are not a customer of
Falk’s Pharmacy.
Influenza A & B are respiratory
viruses. Most cough, cold and
flu viruses are thought to be
passed from person to person
by contact with respiratory
droplets. Contact can occur by
direct bodily contact (such as
kissing) or touching something
with virus on it (such as shaking
hands with someone who has
the flu) and then touching your
mouth, nose or eyes.
Most of the time, you will be-
come contagious after about 24
to 72 hours after contracting
the influenza virus and remain
contagious for up to five days
after the onset of symptoms.
Children or people with com-
promised immune systems can
be contagious to those around
them for up to 2 weeks.
Cover your mouth and nose
with a tissue when coughing or
sneezing. It may prevent those
around you from getting sick.
(Most experts believe that flu
viruses spread mainly by drop-
lets made when people with flu
cough, sneeze or talk). Stop the
Spread of Germs that make you
and others sick.
-Avoid close contact with peo-
ple who are sick
-Stay home when you are sick
-Cover your mouth and nose
-Clean your hands
-Avoid touching your eyes,
nose or mouth
-Practice other good health
habits
Symptoms of Influenza A & B:
-body aches
-chills
-sore throat
-headache
-fever
-dry cough
-dizziness
-new fatigue
If you or a family member/
visitor experience these symp-
toms, a Flu Swab should be
done as soon as possible at your
physicians office or Urgent Care
Clinic or hospital. Please remain
in your apartment until you
know you are negative for Influ-
enza. Ask your family mem-
bers/visitors to stay home until
they are without symptoms.
We do not test for the Flu at St.
Ann’s.

Changes to the Home Care Bill of Rights
Hello everyone, The 2019 Minnesota Legislatures passed
changes to the Minnesota Home Care Bill of Rights, effective
August 2019. This requires all current and new residents sign
an updated form that they have received a copy. Jan will have
a table set up at the Open Forum on Wednesday, October 2nd
at 1:30-3:30 in the Social Hall and on Thursday, October 3rd
from 1:30 -3:00 in the lobby to give you a copy and for you to
sign that we have given it to you. If you are unable to come on
that day Jan or Kristina will be asking to meet with you to get it
done. If you have a Power of Attorney they will also need to
sign it.
Where do I mail a letter?
You can mail your letters down on 1st
floor, or bring them to the front desk.
There is a basket that mail can go into
up at the front desk. Some residents
are putting larger envelopes into the
mail shoot and they are getting stuck.
So if you have a larger piece of mail
that has to be sent out, please use the
mailbox on 1st floor or the front desk
basket. This will guarantee that your
mail will get out promptly. Thank
you!

The podiatrist, Dr. Meints, will be here on October 2nd
and October 4th with appointments beginning at
8:00am. If you are a patient of his, you will be getting a
reminder placed on your door with the date and time

you very much.
We are having a Pre-Rummage Furniture Sale on Tuesday, Octo-
ber 8th from 9:30am until 1:00pm down on 1st Floor. We seem
to have an overstock of furniture items and would like to give the
residents, staff, and family members the first chance to buy
items before they are put into the Rummage & Bake Sale on Oc-
tober 18th and 19th. Please come on down and see what we
have to offer at reasonable prices. Hope to see you there!
Due to the stricter recycling regulations, items left for donation to St. Ann’s that are not able to be sold at our Rummage & Bake Sales will have to be disposed of. We do charge a disposal fee for anything that is left behind that is not useable. All items must be in working condition and we must be able to sell it. We will NOT be accepting electronics or appliances unless we can determine prior to donation that they are in working condition. We are sorry for this change, but we are being left with a lot of unusable items that we are paying for ourselves to dispose of.

Saturday, October 19th: 9 am—2pm

At the beginning of each month we will have a sign-up for all the bus outings
for the month. YOU WILL NEED TO COMMIT TO THE OUTING BY PAYING
THE BUS FEE IN ADVANCE WHEN YOU SIGN UP ($6.00 per trip). This will
hold your seat. If you do not have money when you sign up, we will put you
on the waiting list and add your name to the list when you pay or a seat be-
comes available.
We use a lottery number system to ensure fairness to all signing up for the
bus. If you are unable to be at the sign-up please give your money and list of
trips to another resident and they can sign you up. THE RPS STAFF CAN-
NOT TAKE YOUR MONEY EARLY.
If you sign up and the date of the trip comes and you cannot go, let us
know as soon as possible so WE CAN FIND SOMEONE TO TAKE YOUR
PLACE. If we find someone to take your place your money will be refunded, if
not you will not get your money back.
